I called Manny & Burd at opening this morning and was able to get a haircut appointment for 11:00am with Mark for my adult son that was visiting Ventura. We entered the shop and the barber that greeted us directed us to Mark. The shop has a very chill and easy-going vibe. Mark greeted us, had my son take a seat in the barber chair, asked him what he wanted and got to work. He completed the haircut in 30 minutes. I highly recommend this shop especially for men. I was visiting from out of town and I needed a last minute haircut before I started my day. I walked in and I only had to wait 10 mins to be taken care of. We always have our appointment with Mark Ackerson. He never makes my 8 year old son feel awkward or Unwelcome around a bunch of grown men for who this is their normal demographic I'm sure. He does his hair well and I've never had problems with or experienced uneven or bad haircuts. We have always gotten a Mohawk or a cleanup when we go and have only been going there for the last few months, maybe since August 2020. I like their appointment process (via text with multiple options, respond to confirm), payment process and options (Venmo accepted), and even though the place is small, clients wait outside or in their car and there are only three chairs inside with three barbers when fully staffed and they all wear masks during this time without complaint. And these guys even setup shop outside during the first shutdown to keep business going and customers happy. read more

I am new to the world of beards. Having the ladies requesting I grow it out has been an interesting experience. After several so-so beard trim/shapes, I finally found my Beard Guru in Mark. Manny and Burd is the place to go get a haircut and beard trim in Ventura County. I was a regular of this fine establishment when I lived in Ojai. Now I make it a point to grow my hair out before trips to California just so I can't stop by my go to spot. All of the guys do a great job but if I had to choose one in particular I would say Justin. He is a wizard with beard trimming and provides a fantastic cut as well. Also they have free craft beer while you are there. It's a no brainer to come here! read more

As a new Ventura resident, I needed a hair place that was man friendly. I hadn't had a haircut in nearly a year, and the mop growing from my head had to go. I found Manny and Burd thanks to Yelp, and visited earlier this week. Mark confirmed my appointment via text after I called and left a message asking for an appointment. I didn't have to wait more than ten seconds after walking in the door before Mark welcomed me. I was offered a beer (local craft brew) and we talked about what I had in mind. I ended up with a good haircut and a great experience. He took the time to give me a good new style, massaged moisturizer into my beard, trimmed around my beard and sideburns, and ended with a hot shave on the back of my neck. I'll be back when I need a trim again, or I'm in the market for a hot shave. read more

Looking around Yelp for a barbershop because I was tired of not getting a barber that I could ask questions and clarify what kind of style I was trying to get. After I found this place I texted for an appointment and met with Justin, who was really awesome! After asking what I was going for and fumbling my way through an explanation, he knew exactly what I wanted and got to work with precision. It's advertised as "a shop for men", and that's exactly what you get: no crazy contraptions for the ladies that you've always seen but never knew what what they're called (or what they're for), no walking by gals getting mani/pedis, and no soap operas playing on the background. Just an awesome little shop, with really cool modern decor, and an ice cold beer while you get your hair cut. If the 5 star rating isn't enough to get you to go, let me put it to you this way: I'm a Ventura native moving to Los Angeles by the end of the year, and I'm going to drive the 1+ hours back to get my hair cut at Manny and Burd, one of the last few real barbershops around. read more

Mark is clutch. Fresh and clean cuts, with no BS or dilly dally. In the chair, cut and done. Just enough time to finish your beer, but you're still leaving looking fresh AF. Some other shops take twice as long for a sloppier cut. Not this place. read more

I came to the shop on a friends recommendation and was fortunate there was an opening and I slid in. My overall impression of the place is fantastic and they make you feel like a friend the minute you walk in, just a really cool vibe. Justin has given me 2 of the best haircuts I've had in ages, he's awesome. The shop is super chill and every time I've been in there is always cool customers and the staff is always great.
