I'm not from Ventura. But visit often, had some time to kill and stopped over at Legends after yelping barber shops / reading reviews and weighing options. Decided Legends looked like it had it all going for it. I was pretty specific about why I was looking for, had longer hair but just wanted to fade the sides keep length on top.... I literally walked out with a short comb over. on top of that, it's super uneven and lays awful now, super short and the side are still as long as they were when I went in. super disappointed in all honest. Also had my beard trimmed, which was also a failure. it was very uneven and I had to go home and trim off more length just to even it up.... definitely was like throwing my 30$ away and not only that now I have to go get another haircut to fix and no time before xmas (tomorrow) I would definitely not recommend unless you know a specific barber. read more

A small shop with a huge following! We pulled up to find dozens of guys waiting for their turn to get handsome for the weekend. We were seen by Adrian who took the time to greet my son and make sure he felt comfortable before starting the clippers. He made sure the length and style were okay every step of the way and made sure he was gentle and light-handed. Hubby, Johnny, didn't shave for November to promote awareness for Prostrate Cancer Awareness. His Grandpa died of that. His bucket list--want to do before I die-- is to get a straight blade shave. We did a little research and decided upon Legends. They are VC Reporter's Best Barber in Ventura County for over 3 years. We walked in without an appointment. We were warmly greeted by Jess (one of the owners). Jess is personable, easy to talk to, down to Earth, & very knowledgeable about his craft. Hot towels, a little bit of the electric razor, and, of course, the blade. Hubby looks great! We will be back every year or sooner! Thanks, Jess. P.S. Fernando is a funny guy! He is trimming another customer's goatee. He did great work and cracked up the waiting patrons. The last thing I did, at the store, was to tell Jess (the owner) that I just reviewed him and gave him 5 stars. Then....... he says $25! (Speechless. Dumbfounded. Deer in the headlights.) WTH! _______________________________________________________________ ***** WEIRD**** We called on Saturday for hours and prices. We were told $20. It would cost an extra $5 for an appointment. We didn't make an appointment. I called to see if they were open today- Monday. I was told they were open until 6:30. We were charged $25. (Say WHAT!!) We tipped $5. I think they deserve 4 stars for this inconsistency. My husband wants to return monthly, so I will leave this rating a 5 star. If there isn't consistency in pricing, I will promote OTHER BARBERS! All the good barbers are gone from this shop. I can't go back after seeing how my sons hair was cut. Small patches of hair left by his sideburns and a fade that I can still see every transition/base line. I had to fix it when I got home myself luckily it wasn't that hard but man. Barber literally cut the back of my neck so bad that I had a stranger at the mall tell me my neck was bleeding and after looking in the mirror it looked the the entire posterior hair line on my neck was chopped up with an old razor blade. I thought it was at Strange the barber didn't show me the back part of the hair cut before leaving but I'm not normally picky so I figured how could you fuck up squaring up the next line so I didn't even think to ask. After spending the last couple of months on house arrest, er, quarantine, knowing barber shops were slowly opening and not wanting to wait for the one I usually go to to open, I decided to seek one out. I happened upon Legends in Ventura, a small shop nestled between a tattoo parlor and a nail salon off Main st.. I pulled into the empty parking lot not knowing if it was open. I found that it was. There were 2 barbers there, both cutting hair but they weren't accepting walk-ins until Monday 6/1. Luckily Chris popped his head out and said if I could wait 10 min. he'd be able to do the job, his 11 o'clock cancelled so he had the time! Never been there, I walked in to a nice, newly renovated 7 chair shop. Chris's partner left so it was just us 2. I found Chris to be a very easy to talk to young man and we had a great conversation while he cut my hair. The shop caters to mostly young guys and the styles they like, but Chris knew what to do for me, nothing fancy for this 62 yr. old school guy that's had the same haircut his whole life! He was totally professional, very easy going, confident, and relaxed around me being almost old enough to be his grand-father. I highly recommend Chris if you're looking for a barber! I brought my 3 year old here. I loved the environment. My son isn't comfortable with getting his haircut alone yet, but the guy let me sit with him and put a cover on me to prevent hair from getting on me. I honestly didn't care but him taking the initiative shows how thoughtful they are. Leaving this after giving this place one chance too many. Basically, if you don't have an appointment (which they upcharge for) you're seen in order of how much of a regular you are. Knowing that it's taken 45ish minutes to get a spot before, I specifically called ahead to see the wait. 15-20 minutes, two guys waiting. Cool. Get there 10 minutes later, one guy waiting. So I sit and wait. Throughout, regulars come in and ask if there's a spot. They get seated and trimmed. I wait. About an hour into my 20-minute wait, I give up. It's better when the owner's there, but when he's not, good luck getting a haircut if you're not a regular. Two stars because it's a pretty good haircut if you have 60-90 minutes to wait. read more

Went to Legends today and Adam gave me a great cut. My beard was all raggedy and he used a lot of care to get it under control and get it more healthy. The shop is nice and clean, with ocean breezes and cool tunes. Also I watched Carlos in the chair over and he was busting out clean fades with care and precision. These guys are doing it right. Went as a walk in.. walked in first , no one told me anything at all. THe place had about 9 barbers and only 1 guy taking walk ins. Despite some barbers who had appts they still had time on their hands afterwards. I was literally there for 2 hrs and 5 min to be exact and not one word was told to me by a barber. Some guy even came in who had an appt for 5:30 and none of the barbers knew who he was or who he scheduled it with... smh read more

I took my 14 month old to Legends for his first haircut. The owner, Jess was very skilled with a wiggly baby. He had an apron to fit a baby, a DVD player + TV to play cartoons, a lollipop and a baby's first haircut certificate. He took his time-even though every chair in the barbershop was taken and there were people waiting. We can't wait to continue taking our son to get his haircut at this gem. Upadate July 2015- Adrian effin killed it. Perfect style, perfect cut. Spent about 15 seconds with him showing him a few pics of what I had in mind. He confidently used his own style and creativity and did a stellar job. On another note, this place has the absolute best vibe I've ever experienced at a barbershop. Severely disappointed. Our first time here was a wonderful experience for my sons first haircut 2 years ago. The service today was awful. We booked 10am appointments for my 2 kids a few days prior, we show up and the guy wasn't even there yet. He showed up half an hour later and had an awful attitude because his coworker called him out on making us wait. Then he decided before he started he needed to go to he bathroom and 15 minutes later he was still gone, so we left. Not only that but $30 for each individual CHILDRENS haircut is unbelievable. There are some wonderful people at legends and granted a lot of talent, but it was a shame to have such low grade service without any recognition by the barber when he showed up. read more
