I went there yesterday for the second time; the experience was just as excellent as it was the first time. I've had my hair cut by Mark twice now: he's fast, skilled, professional, laid-back, and he does a great job. The shop smells amazing, they pay great attention to cleanliness and sanitizing everything between customers, and it's just a wonderful and relaxing experience. I have moderately complicated hair that is very challenging to cut (textured, curly, thick, goes in a zillion directions at once), and Mark did a fantastic job with it and gave me exactly what I asked for. I also brought my partner and he got his hair cut as well, and was extremely happy with the result. I have tried several barbers in Ventura, but Manny and Burd has been hands-down the best experience--I'll stick with them. Thank you, Mark! read more

Check out Manny and Burd! David and Justin are great guys that do great work. They've been getting a bit busier but sometimes if one is booked you can still get in the other chair for a trim or even a whole new style. For a hot shave, get an appointment with Justin and he'll clean you up. Do them a favor and show up a couple minutes early. You might even get your cut a little sooner than you expected or you get a chance to have a refreshment, check some magazine or chat with someone new in the shop. Give them a call. Why go back to that chain hair cutting establishment and get the next available stylist when you can get to know your barber. This is my husband's favorite place for his "oh lawd, my hair is so long and I waited too long to get it cut" do. Because, let's be honest, dudes don't pre-schedule haircuts. Or at least mine doesn't. And he ALWAYS comes out looking REAL, REAL GOOD. His haircuts grow out well (which is a good sign of a quality hair cut), but I have asked him if he gets his eyebrows trimmed and ear hair tended to, like he has at other places. He says, "No." This is my (our) one request. Please tend to those wayward "other" hairs. Us ladies spend lots of time and money on those things, kindly extend the service to the mens. read more

I went to see Mark here for a haircut based on reviews and a friends recommendation. Man I was very pleased. I'm a little persnickety about haircuts. I called and got a next day appointment and saw Mark today. I have to say I am very impressed with the shop. The guys are all laid back and I was offered a beer as soon as I sat down in the chair. I really hate giving 5 star reviews. It tends to draw more business and lead to longer wait times for me. But what can I say about this place that hasn't already been said? I've been dreading getting a haircut for months now because I just wasn't able to find a place that could do a good job. Justin took me as a walk-in so that I could get a new dew for my holiday party. He offered me a beer and asked me what I wanted done to my hair. I had a rough idea that I gave him and he went right to work. The man is brilliant with the tools of his trade! Everyone in the shop in fact was excellent and every haircut that I saw walk out looked great. Justin was even able to make my ugly mug look presentable! Wanted someone who would listen to my preconceptions, but then have some genuine insights / instincts on where to take me (willing to change my style a bit). Justin gave me a great cut that satisfied all these things. It gave me something a little more stylish and fresh, without going beyond my comfort zone. Some barbers/stylists tend to give you a cut that's really for *them* based on their preferences, but Justin gave me a cut for *me*, if that makes sense. He also didn't try to push any product on me that I didn't need, which is appreciated. At the end, the price was so reasonable, I had to give a bigger tip because it's really worth more. read more
