I usually do not write reviews but this experience stood out to me. I decided to look for a new barber in my area and found Manny's on Yelp. The positive reviews made me walk in. I asked for a trim and just a cleaner cut. I specifically asked to keep the front of my hair longer. The barber pulls out clippers and I ask for scissors. I used to get my hair cut by Geno at Geno's Barberia in Little Italy, which is an awesome place - but unfortunately it's quite tricky to get there from where I'm staying right now so I decided to try Manny's after seeing the glowing Yelp reviews. When it comes to a barber, I do my research. It doesn't get any better than Manny. He opened his shop recently, but he's been cutting for quite some time. He cuts pretty quickly, which generally worries me. I prefer for my barber to take time on my hair. But the outcome was all the same. So it seems like he simply knows what he's doing. He even taught me a little bit about how my hair grows and what would be better with my hair. Then he proceeded to cut exactly how I asked without missing a single thing. The fade was impeccable. Saw that this place had high ratings and decided to give it a shot, and was definitely not disappointed. I went right before work on a Friday afternoon, and there was only two guys there already getting their hair cut. One of them had actually just finished the second I walked in. Anyways, I had a picture of what I wanted my hair to look like and showed it to Manny (he was my barber). He glanced on it and immediately knew what I wanted. Around 15 minutes later, he was completely done! I was a little skeptical at first, but then he brought up the mirror to show me the back of my head and it was what I wanted it to be. I did have some questions about my hair; how I should manage it, why one side of my hair looked a little bit different and what I could do to even it out (all I need to do is grow it out, he had the same situation with his hair once upon a time and that helped his hair become even). If you're a new customer they hand you a punch card for customer loyalty. After you get 6 cuts I believe, you get the next one free. I for one, will be returning. Yesterday was my first day at Manny's Barbershop. I must say that this is one of the best barber shops I've been to. I moved out to New York a couple months ago and I have finally found the right shop for me. The experience I had at Manny's was perfect for me. Overall I'm really happy with this place. My friends tell me it's always good to have a back up barbershop just in case the one you frequent doesn't have a spot to fit you in. Finally found a barber in Manhattan that not only does a fantastic job with the cut, but is quick and efficient as well. You can really tell that Manny puts a lot of pride into his work, and he should be damned proud of his little establishment. Price is more than fair for the level of work (around $20), but I always leave it a point to tip a little more than average. I come here every couple of weeks and have had three or four different looks. He manages to not only get the haircut right, but he also gives tips on how to style the hair as well as what works with what type of hair.
