Great breakfast stop on the way to Captian cook monument, clean bright restrauant done in latin themes. The food was cooked to order everything was fresh, my bacon burrito was loaded with eggs and bacon and a tad of cheese. The spanish rice was amazing. The hueavos rancheros came with 2 perfectly cooked eggs. Service was fast and friendly they also have a drive-up window so they work both the counter and the window so be patient. Cold drinks Airconditioned lobby, next time we will stop in for dinner.I hear the menudo is a must try so hopefully we are around on a sunday. Just wish they had a salsa bar...

Shrimp taco we scarfed down

Went with the recommendation of a local friend, the shrimp tacos were great the rice and beans not so much per the Arizona friends I dined with. The service was order at the counter and it was brought out to you. Nice little Mexican restaurant.

Came here for the Menudo on Sundays only. Very good except they don't add hominy for some reason. Never tried anything else from here, but it all looked very tasty. If you're on the Big island near Kona, and you're dying for menudo this is the place. I added my own hominy

Tacos

Loved this place! Amazing food and great service! Try the crunchy tacos and Spanish rice.

This place is literally amazing. As a Mexican American it was hard to stop at a Mexican restaurant. But this place is amazing from the nachos to the militas and the sopes it's so good. If you want Mexican please stop here. If you get the shrimp tempura only expect 2 shrimps though everything else is veggies

Coworker stated this was the closest he's had to Cali Mexican food since moving here. Very lofty statement. So off we went... ...arrived to something that looks like it could be in LA. But that's when the similarities ended. I ordered a fish burrito and the pupusas. Total was almost $30... After 20 minutes the food arrives! The burrito was okay but had quite a bit of romaine lettuce in it. Never had lettuce in a burrito before. And I never will again. It was a soggy mess. Burrito 5/10. The pupusa's looked promising but that was it. The consistency was weird and the flavor of it was just bland. For the price, it's not a must order. But it was better than the burrito. Overall not worth the 30 minute drive from Kona town. Will keep hunting for good Mexican food.

Horrendous service. We left before getting our food. I don't think they like tourists.

I'm always on the hunt for great authentic tacos, and I'd been here before with a good experience…read more I loved that it's a family-run, mom-and-pop, honest-to-goodness legit Mexican taqueria -- and that vibe is still there. Unfortunately, not much else lived up to my last visit. The woman behind the counter was not gunning for any friendship or customer service awards. When I asked for extra hot sauce for the 3 tacos I ordered, I was met with a firm "No, only 1!" I clarified -- one per taco, since I bought three. Still "No!" After some negotiating, I talked her into two, but you'd have thought I was asking her to part with a kidney. I asked if they had sodas -- clearly hoping for a Diet Coke. Short answer, and definitely not sweet: "No." She eventually mumbled something about drinks next door. (The lady next door, by the way, was absolutely delightful.) Jalapeños? "No." Chiles toreados? "No." This is simply not the person who should be working front of house. When my order was finally ready, she tried to short me on that hard-won second hot sauce -- you know, the kidney. The food came out hot and fresh, and after that service experience, I was expecting it to be nothing short of amazing. Because really -- how do you treat customers like that if the food isn't blowing people away? Sadly, the hot sauce wasn't hot. At all. And the food overall was pretty good -- not excellent, not amazing, just pretty good. I did enjoy the yellow corn tortillas; soft, warm, and nicely done. The asada was chopped into chunks, which works, and both the asada and birria tacos were topped with onion and cilantro. But here's my honest take, setting the service entirely aside: the Califas taco truck by Home Depot has better food overall. I hate to say it -- I was really hoping to recapture those great tacos from my last visit. It just wasn't meant to be. It can't be that hard to make them like they do in Mexico!

This place is legit!! The best chicken enchiladas plate I had in Kona!…read moreNot just enchiladas, the rice was so on point and so was the beans! I was pleasantly surprised how good everything was on my plate! Tiny hole in the wall to-go only taqueria is a gem! I will be back again to try something else.
