Ordered the vegetarian burrito. It should have more than mostly rice, some beans and a bit of salsa and guacamole.

Fresh, melt-in-your-mouth, and simply the best around. Whether you're stopping in for breakfast or lunch, every meal is made with care and served with a smile. The vibe is something you just can't recreate. Walking into Teshima's feels like stepping back to a kinder, simpler time, where the food was honest, the conversations were real, and everyone was treated like ʻohana. If you're visiting the Big Island, skip the chains and support places like this. Come hungry, slow down, show a little aloha, and enjoy one of the island's true treasures. Mahalo, Teshima's, for keeping the spirit of old Hawaiʻi alive. We'll be back every chance we get.

If you're coming to the Big Island and skip Manago Hotel Restaurant, you're doing it wrong…read more This place is the definition of old Hawaiʻi no frills, no gimmicks, just some of the best home-style food you'll find anywhere. The menu is small, but that's part of the magic. They do what they do exceptionally well, and every plate tastes like it's been made with care for generations. The service? Hands down some of the best on the island. Friendly, genuine, and welcoming the kind of aloha that can't be faked. If you're wondering what to order, you can't go wrong with the butterfish or the hamburger steak both are absolute island classics. And if you're a pork chop fan, you're in for a treat. They're absolutely delightful. One favor if you're visiting: leave the snobby tourist attitude at the airport. Slow down, be patient, respect the people, and enjoy this place for what it is. Manago isn't trying to be trendy or impress influencers. It's an island institution, and that's exactly why it's so special. Mahalo to everyone at Manago for another fantastic meal. I'll be back every chance I get.

My husband got the fried opelu. Gravy and grilled onions are an additional 50 cents each. The pork chops were pretty thick and was enough for the both of us. Honestly, it wasn't anything spectacular, but I read and heard so much about it. They bring out 3 side dishes and tonight it was potato salad, a cucumber/imitation crab salad and shoyu long rice. Rice is served like in a Chinese restaurant in a big bowl and you scoop your own into your bowl. The service was very good, local style with her calling us aunty. So Kona, I love it! The hotel itself is over 100 years old and it is very nostalgic. Don't expect too much, it is home style cooking with local vibes. I enjoyed our dinner there and would go back to try something else on their menu.

He emphatically declared that it was not unusual for him to take an order over the phone. I should have realized that it was probably not going to happen when I had to give him my name before ending the call. In retrospect, I should have called him later in the day to see if it was done but it was the first time dealing with him so I was giving him the benefit of my doubts. Guess what? After making a special trip to the store, there was no order to be found anywhere. That was my protein for the next three days and what they had in the counter was not that appetizing and were much larger cuts of fish cuts and no guarantees that they were, in fact, yellow-fin tuna. He guaranteed that he was going to cut a specific weight for me of yellow-fin tuna caught fresh the previous day. I spent at least ten minutes on the phone with him having a very friendly conversation that sounded genuine. The staff offered no apologies or compensation of any sort for my ordeal almost insinuating that I was fabricating the whole situation.
