I got a last minute reservation for Thanksgiving night and slept well as the hotel was incredibly quiet, and the bedding was fairly comfortable. [Note: no extra plush blankets provided, but the in-room heater was good]. Reviews of the water front motels in Port Townsend mentioned bed bugs which scared me and led me to book here. You should think about staying at Mansera Castle if you like character and history because the building has a palpable sense of olden times built into the architecture, the creaky stairs, the narrower door frames, and the oldest working elevator in the state (it's a bit like a freight elevator with brocade dressing). However, the lack of accessible entryway (a flight of steep stairs to get inside) and an antique elevator that is only operable by hotel staff should warn off people with limited mobility, injuries etc. I used the wonderful WiFi for a night of iPad entertainment while toasty under the covers. It was a fun experience for a night, but it might have been louder had the hotel been full. Nearing Christmas, the hotel staff had decorated the erstwhile Victorian-era wealthy resident's home parlor. This was rather charming to see and definitely not replicable in a sterile, modern hotel chain. This vast building was subsequently used as a Jesuit boarding house for decades. The hotel amenities are barebones relative to a modern hotel chain where you might expect a writing desk fitted with desk lamps, and numerous outlets, etc. My room came with TV, refrigerator, a coffee machine and insufficient wall outlets. Even the internal phone system was non existent. Downstairs lobby has coffee in the morning. No breakfast included in the price. The whole historical immersion experience is unique however. read more

I thought it would be cool to stay in a castle on our road trip. I'm not sure that Manresa Castle quite lived up to expectations. The history of the building is fascinating. Some of the current design/ decor choices in both the common spaces and in our room are a bit interesting. Despite there being a few common areas, we didn't feel comfortable hanging out in any of them for various reasons. Our room itself was clean, and we did have a view. read more

Old hotel with a lot of charm! If you love ghost tours and "haunted hotels" then this place is for you. There were several guests taking photos and filming "ghost hunts." I didn't come across anything otherworldly ...except for the spirits downstairs. In the basement of the hotel is an eclectic sci-fi style bar called the Elephant Room. The bar has a handful of tables, all spread out, for groups of 3-4 to nestle away with their drinks. If it's food you're after then there's also a restaurant on the other side of the hotel with a little bit of everything (I recommend the calamari). This hotel is within walking distance of the waterfront and several cafes are located nearby. Everything except for the bar area is older, so expect a dated "spooky old hotel" aesthetic. read more

If you love vintage and charm, this is a lovely place to stay, but it's not without its quirks. There is no AC. The electrical outlets are all so worn we couldn't get our phone chargers to stay in them. There is a vintage elevator but must be employee operated, so one must call the front desk on the cell phone you couldn't charge to meet you on your floor. It appears the windows do open but the handles are so high up you can't reach them. The positives: we stayed in 302, the Tower Room, which is a suite. Lovely antiques and a table large enough to play games on. Incredible water views. There is a lovely bar and restaurant, however, it now serves Asian Fusion food which was not what I was in the mood for. But the menu did look good. There is a historical fact sheet that is interesting. But besides the quirks I still like staying here. And no ghosts bothered us. read more

What a quirky, unusual, surprising place to stay. So full of history. I couldn't help myself but walk around the property imagining all the history that has taken place here. The staff was fantastic!!! Rooms are old (what do you expect?) but very clean. The view at sunrise was phenomenal. Great experience for a great price. Manresa advertises on its website with a beautiful fountain, gardens, pretty rooms and a strong, gorgeous hotel. Reality is far from this. The building is in need of maintenance. Was here in August, and there were no gardens and the fountain wasn't on. Small parking lot for such a large structure, and it's falling apart. Not ADA friendly; there are no ramps to the entrance. The restaurant serves Asian cuisine, which doesn't match the history of the property nor the aesthetic. They also sell nachos, fries and a brisket sandwich. We came here because we wanted to see the architecture of the building and eat, but we decided to go elsewhere seeing the property and the menu. We saw one car in front of the castle, and they left quickly after they parked. read more

Only rating for the Green Room as we had limited exposure to the over-all Castle. While up to an art show in PT, my daughter heard of all the alleged "haunted" places there. The Castle, an eclectic place, was high on her list. We stopped in for drinks and snacks at the Green Room. A cozy room, small fireplace that looks to be undergoing some upgrades. Building is cool, and does show its age a little (as other guests have mentioned). Could use some updating, but it is a clean facility. The restaurant "The Rook" is awesome. Best place we ate in Port Townsend hands down. I asked for some extra spice in the curry and it was perfect. The drinks were reasonably priced too. I had an issue at check in where there was an error with their system. There was only one ($120 more per night) room available. The front desk gal was great and definitely interested in helping. Unfortunately she did not have the authority to just get us in the room and it took an hour from walking in the door to finally getting a room. Management should have been quicker about that. That stated, the room was definitely and nice upgrade with a great photo so can't be too upset. I would stay here again, but definitely recommend calling in to make the reservation and hold onto your confirmation email. read more

We just stayed for a few days with them. Here is the thing: it's an older building, and as such, there are some slight downfalls to be expected from its age. However, other things, cosmetic things, can easily be fixed and haven't been yet. These would change the ratings of this hotel. Pros: i mean...look at it! The castle is gorgeous! The main areas have been kept well, the staff (at least front desk/Amber) was always very nice, including the lounge waitress (the guy seemed a bit stand offish), and there is plenty of parking. In keeping with the aesthetics/theme, the rooms (at least ours) are decorated in older themes, so if you're looking for modernist crap, find somewhere else to stay at. Price for the area was not too high, either. Also, ghosts?? Cons: keeping in mind what I said earlier, if some funds were allocated to fixing superficial issues, the rooms would look much better. For example, the wallpaper is torn, stained, and outdated. A fresh coat of paint would look better and would be best for us allergy sufferers anyway. Water leak? Just clean it vs. leaving the puffed up stain. Speaking of paint, a simple stroke over the white wood pieces would be sufficient to hide the window and bathroom shelves (see pictures). Another issue is the lack of accessibility; some folks may have issues getting up stairs and the elevator, as charming as it is, only works until 10 pm and must be operated by staff. Anyway, our room, while fine, was awkward because access to the bathroom goes through the secondary bedroom, which by the way, had one electrical outlet, nowhere near the bed (so the lamp next to the bed? Useless. Need to plug your phone? That's funny, etc) bathroom was cute and provided anything you may need. No phones in the room and no maid service unless you request something in specific. My window was missing a screw so it had a draft, which made the blinds constantly move. Lastly, one room heater worked, but not the other, and our cable stopped working on day 2. Also, ghosts?? (This is a fine quirk to me but who knows). My biggest gripe: our beds. Oh my lordt. Never have I ever cried from sleeping on such an uncomfortable bed. It was hard as concrete, loud, and gave me muscle aches and a tension headache because the pillows were so flat. My parents had nothing nice to say about their bed, either. Overall, it has such potential with just a few changes (mattresses, fresh coat of paint)! I really do think the reviews would improve with these fixes. I would literally recommend it but I won't be the cause of somebody else's uncomfortable sleep. read more

I was only there for the NYE dance party, I wasn't a guest of the hotel. But holy moly, what a trip. Three dance floors, a complete maze of a place, quite a few bars throughout the venue. Highly recommend the restaurant there for the fast and friendly service. The drinks were good as was the food. We stayed here and as far as creepy, it did not disappoint! My husband had a brand new candy bar on the dresser. After we left and came back from dinner.. the candy bar was opened and half was gone!! Booked this hotel through Priceline for our honeymoon because we were going to do a whale watching of of the city of port Townsend. When we went to book the whale watching it was full. We then checked the cancellation policy of the hotel and had until 6:30 PM to cancel (this is what the policy through which we booked stated) for a full refund. They charged us for one of the nights and refunded the other half. Appears that this hotels and the sites they advertise through have different policies. We have proof of the cancellation policy and they still won't honor the policy of which we followed. We wouldn't have cancelled the rooms had we not been able to get a full refund and would've found something else to do here. Now they've made 150$ off honeymooners whose room was booked for 3 mins. Calling the hotel is pointless as no one will answer and we are getting nowhere with either of the two groups involved. This place has gone through several folks trying to make this vintage place come to life. The current proprietors are a young couple, a young local man and his Thai wife have brought this place to life with great food and an ambiance that works. A bit of modern with the vintage building work. The staff is lovely and the setting is fabulous overlooking the Admiralty Inlet. They have fun events, music, a sports bar and classy bar and cool restaurant. It's really nice to not be in downtown PT and yet still in PT on the hill with a view. We love it!! read more

My sister and I stayed at the Manresa for a little get away. My sister liked the idea of staying in a haunted castle, and I am always down for an adventure and booked it, because it wouldn't matter if we stayed in a broom closet, we would find a way to have an amazing time. I will sum it up for you in one sentence first, "You will hear a lot of activity that will keep you awake but it will be from horrible insulation and the cleaning crew early in the morning, not paranormal activity". The hotel as a lot of old time charm. Creaky steps, musty smell, an early century feel. The one bedroom rooms are TINY. It is the size of a small bedroom, with not a lot of room to walk around the bed. The bed was very comfortable and clean. The view we had was of a parking lot and then off in the distance, the water. What really caused the hotel to lose two stars (and if I had been travelling for business and needed sleep, it would have been even more) is that the hotel is LOUD. We were woke up numerous times throughout the night from other guests simply walking down the hall, or moving around upstairs. There is zero insulation in these rooms and every noise carries. THEN to make matters worse house keeping started vacuuming in the room above us early in the morning and it sounded like a excavator was tearing up the floors...it was that loud. The hotel had very low occupancy so I am not sure why they felt they needed to clean so early right above us. There were no amenities and it was just a very basic stay. They are resting on their fame from being on Ghost Adventures, which is fine. You know what you are getting. We had a decent discount staying during the week but I imagine the weekends cost a lot more. There is no free breakfast, only a small cup of coffee. It is easy free parking and there is a QFC across the street for any food, coffee, liquor, etc needs you may have. This hotel is not close enough to walk into town without walking along very busy highways. The staff, especially Judy, were all SUPER nice. Judy talked to us at length about the history and was just a very nice representative of the castle. We left our phone chargers and had to come back for them. It was nice that they returned them to us instead of pocketing them as some hotel employees have done. All in all, I would stay here again for a night just for the adventure and uniqueness of this hotel. Dirty! Our room had not been vacuumed, (there was a big corn chip in the middle of the floor,) there was a layer of dust on everything but the top of the table, and there was a dried gob of something disgusting on the wall. Unfortunately, we did not see any of this until we finally got up in the morning. We were exhausted on arrival and had just gone straight to bed. Ewww! The room we booked was not even in the "castle." Though it did not mention it in the room description on line, we found ourselves in an outbuilding that had been converted to two adjoining rooms. If this sounds good to you, be warned that by 2am we knew the strangers next door well enough to blush thanks to the complete lack of insulation between the rooms. An amorous episode, a good old fashioned drunken argument, and several bathroom trips. Yep. We got to hear things that we will never un-hear. When we checked out the next morning, we asked that our room be discounted and showed the attached pictures to the front desk attendant. After checking with her boss they were only willing to offer a 15% discount. We will not visit this place again and will not recommend it. I wish we had thought to check Yelp. We could have saved ourselves a nearly sleepless night in a dingy, dirty, not so cheap, motel room. Definitely not worthy of the Castle title! read more

Had I known that Manresa Castle was not in the very good shape of a Replica Castle or that the party would continue into the early hours, we would have never paid to stay there. We did not get the room that we rented. Oh, we got the room number but not the nice deluxe queen suite that we saw on the website. With the exception of the main check-in lobby and the library/ dining room, there is nothing in the hotel that holds up to the photos online with little furnishings to match the period era. Our room price was $254.75 ( double what the current charges are now on their website so they must of double the room charge because of the Halloween party ) with military discount. I rented the room (actually upgraded from my original reservation after a cancelation so we could get 2 beds ) by the pictures that are on the hotel website and other sites like Booking .com based on a comfortable sitting room as well that it offer two beds and maybe a ghost name Kate. It would had been really nice if the furniture had actually still been in the room and we would had hot water in the bathroom as well as heat . There was no place to hang our clothes or unpack our suitcase except for a single hook we found on the back of the door because the Wardrobe the dresser and comfortable vintage chairs were missing from the said deluxe suite. There was also no Hot water in our bathroom. The beds mattress where not comfortable due to age and there was a group of plug wires hanging over the heater, preventing us from using the unsafe heater. I did go downstairs and ask the staff if it was safe to use and was told yes, but when the wires became warm to touch, I was forced to shut off the heater. We didn't think that the dj noise would go up to the third floor or that the hotel didn't take all guest into consideration and maybe ending the party at midnight or at the very least lower the volume of the music actually the volume went up. We were locals coming from town but actually paying regular guests traveling 2 hours to get there. If we had been told that the party was going to be wild on all 3 floors and into guest rooms with loud music noise filling our rooms to early morning preventing us from sleeping we would Never had come there. We would have stayed in one of the nice hotels in town. We weren't coming for the Halloween party since we didn't know about it until after we made our reservation but we did attend the party for two hours but we were back into our room by 10:30 pm. This trip was to be a mother daughter weekend in celebration of my 68th birthday. When I tried to check out this morning and talk about our stay, no one could be bothered to open the curtain to talk to me. We drove  2 hours to experience and see a Vintage Castle hotel, which other than the lobby, nothing about this hotel, says charming. We felt like we stayed the night at a fraternity with a frat party going on, especially in the am seeing the condition the hotel was in because the staff didn't clean up from the night before with beer cans, empty glasses and jello shots as well as trash everywhere. The room across from ours held their own party throughout the night that the hotel staff allowed actually couldn't even call because no phone to the front desk in the room and the staff wasn't on duty after 11 pm. No management personnel on duty. I respectfully asked for a refund of the $254.74  but was told no because we were in their popular room and knew that there was going to be a party. Once again we arranged for our stay before we knew about the party and we never dreamed it would become the loud frat-house party that it was. There was no consideration for the hotels regular guest for the evening. We did Not get the deluxe luxury suite victorian room as  advertised, little to no room heat and no hot water in our restroom as well wall paper was peeling off the wall with water stain damage and No management control of a event. It took 3 emails to get the staff to answer my refund request, in which they declined. read more

The building is wonderful and of course things are still getting back to normal from the pandemic. The usual supply-chain and sanitation issues are a challenge for any host. However after staying in other hotels with similar challenges recently, I can't accept that as a blanket excuse for a disappointing experience. The management and staff (hotel and food service) appears very amateurish and demonstrated little understanding of the basics of hospitality or customer service. They appear to lack training on seeing things from the guest's point of view or in expressing empathy. Little gestures - which I'm sure can be coached - are important always, but matter even more when things unavoidably go wrong. Like when older people have to haul luggage up and down stairs because the "oldest elevator in the state" - which has to be manually operated by staff - goes out. I joked to the front desk about having to carry my wife - who uses a cane- downstairs. The two women behind the desk appeared to shrug it off and went back to their non-work conversation. Neither took the cue, neither offered assistance or even an apology. 'What can I do?' has TWO meanings - one resigned and apathetic and the other empathetic and helpful. I think staff tended to lean into the former throughout our stay. THE ONLY exception was a staff member with an overseas accent who grasped our situation early in our visit and offered to run the elevator while the front desk was making us wait. As far as I can remember, only that ONE person tried to connect with us - asking where we were traveling from or how we were doing. She demonstrated a better grasp of hospitality than the rest of the team put together. We aren't particularly fussy and don't require ADA accessibility but we are older and at least one of us is somewhat limited. A little more empathy or effort from the rest of the staff would have resulted in a much better experience, not just for us but for any guest. I would tell them: if you feel that good service or treating others with sensitivity and respect is below your station, then hospitality probably isn't your calling. Our room could have used a refresh. I love original details where they exist, but beat-up midcentury (garage sale) furniture in a bizarre layout of empty space and overcrowding was just another sign of a tight-fisted, don't-care operation. So is the power cabling dangling visibly in the hillbilly arrangement pictured. Overall the room didn't look "vintage" as much as just plain cheap. I had stayed at Manresa Castle many years ago and was looking forward to another great experience, this time with my wife. Sadly that place is gone, replaced by another I don't recognize and can't recommend. read more

The only ghosts at Manresa Castle are past caretakers rolling in their graves at how filthy and uncared for the castle is. We rented the room with a jacuzzi tub. There was mold everywhere in the bathroom, and the tub was filthy. Dirt and hair all over. Dirty towels on the floor. Who wants to shower in that, let alone bathe? We told the front desk lady, who herself was nice enough, and she said the cleaners leave at 2pm. Apparently they only have 1 person staffing the whole castle after 2? We also noticed stains all over the sheets. We stripped those off and slept on the comforter that looked clean. Throughout the hotel paint is perling, things look dirty. The good: thick towels, impressive water pressure, plenty of space in our Queen room with a pretty view of the water front. The bad: walls very thin, a concern if there is a screaming baby or someone has a pet walrus. Forget the ghosts. These people are thieves. Stayed there with my family for my brother's wedding. We rented the entire castle. We were charged for a broken hide a bed couch. They said my kids must have been jumping on it. We weren't even in the room until after midnight because of the wedding and my children were young, three and five. Just went to sleep woke up and left. Then got a bill in the mail. The kicker is four other couples got similar bills. Broken chairs, blinds etc. I took them to small claims court which did no good.I wouldn't suggest this place to anyone. Even if it was free. read more

This was a nice place to experience staying at. If you don't get a room with a view you'll be look at QFC or the hospital. If you do get a room with a view - it's beautiful. They did a great job with pictures for this place but sadly the place could use some sprucing up especially for price that you are paying. The hotel clerk leaves at 11pm and everything gets left unlocked which was a bit concerning especially if you get a room with a detached bath and need to go down hall in middle of night! It does have some cool old features that make it seem authentic. But if you want ice, soda (vending machine, or a microwave to use you need to go downstairs. Also no AC made for a very hot room up on the 3rd floor but luckily they had fans and it cooled of eventually. There is very few plug ins and the rooms are pretty tight. Also the room doors have glass in them so the bright hall lights shine in the room all night. One big plus for our family is we had a room for my husband and I? Another room for our 2 teenage boys. Our bathroom was connected to their room. Honestly the worst part was whatever the use to clean before we got there had a horrible perfume smell and we had to air our room out for a long time before that went away. They have the longest running elevator in Washington or something like that- they will take you up in it to bring your luggage up if want. And if you are taking the stairs - it's a lot of stairs to that top floor! read more

Some allowance is granted given the age/historical significance of the establishment. However, the lack of ramps to the lobby, a properly functioning elevator (only staff are permitted to operate), a less than courteous staff (check-in after 4PM with the desk clerk discouraging viewing the lobby until checked-in) and an overpowering odor of the place negates any significance of the Manresa. It is obvious from interior and exterior cracks that the foundation is settling below room 220. All of this at the above average price of $130 per night. No thanks. I will pass for my next visit to Port Townsend. read more

The heater in our room would not shut off. It was like a sauna in there and we could barely sleep. It was room 306. We did tell the staff but the did not have a maintenance person available to fix it. Window was open and fan was on but we were miserable. There was large pieces of bread on the floor by the bed that must have been missed by house keeping before we checked in. We hoped for a haunted evening but nothing happened. Maybe it was the ghost that made the heater not turn off. Front desk staff was nice. The castle was awesome!! Minus the bedroom heatstroke we did really enjoy the stay. The lounges were nice. Elevator was awesome. The view was perfect. Bathroom supplies as in shampoo/conditioner and soap were great. Fridge and freezer were perfect and the tv was great. read more
