So this is a review of my experience here though we didn't stay there…read more It is a great historical example of a waterfront hotel built in the late 19th century during the building boom here when Port Townsend was competing with the whole west coast to be a terminus port for trade and economic boom. The railroad never came but the sailors did so this was the brothel, bar, and sailor trade on the waterfront where the respectable affluent families built their Victorian homes above. So glad that further economic boom didn't tear down this cool old buildings and so much of the structures of all kinds around town! We were having a local tourist day from our place across Admiralty inlet with our big dog. While walking the front street before we could notice a lovely older lady was welcoming us and our boy and very happy to see our pup. She was just so much a great ambassador of their business and very engaging that we all enjoyed the encounter. The front entrance decorated well and nice plants in boxes. She had so many dog friendly advice to give us without asking about Port Townsend in general and recommended local dining choices. Not asked for but in hindsight it reminded me of what you'd expect from your concierge at a nice hotel while on vacation. We really enjoyed chatting with her out at the entrance and makes me want to suggest that place for a fun stay. They have 7 rooms I guess that are dog friendly and If we "missed the boat back to Whidbey". Or something more planned, we would def consider staying at this former 19th century brothel turned hotel for sure! It reminds me of a smaller version of the same we stayed at once in San Francisco way up the hill that was not preserved so well. This whole town was designed and developed to compete with west coast 19th century seaports for trade and commerce and it shows. But i think that the thought that railroads would bring prosperity here has left us with survivors of this bygone era!! I'd recommend considering this a a great waterfront stay in this town as it's very convenient and worthwhile!

We stayed in room 6. It's an old Victorian house with a number of antique artifacts including instruments, guns, books, etc. There is no elevator - you have to climb the stairs to get to your room or downstairs to the billiards table & guest fridge. The innkeeper is extremely sweet. She welcomed us in and explained about the house. At 9am (prompt), she serves breakfast, which was a delight! It was a full 3 course meal - everything home-made (or from a local bakery). Honestly, the breakfast here was better than our dinner at a restaurant the night before! Our room was very cute - it looked like the inside of a doll house. For my husband, who is a tall man (6'2), he felt a bit claustrophobic because the ceiling comes inwards. But for my 5' self, I didn't mind. Everything was clean and had a nice presentation. They even had home-made cookies waiting! We really enjoyed our stay, and it was nice to have a sit down breakfast with the other guests and chat together. There's also a sweet doggo named Ursa who you may see putter around. For a nice weekend away from the city, this is a very cozy quaint place to stay.

The food was absolutely exquisite. We ate breakfast beside the sea both mornings and Natalie did a wonderful job serving us. She was so friendly and thoughtful around our dietary needs. We felt very cared for and the environment was so serene. Dave even offered to wash our car after it got some bird dung on it! This is still the best place to stay in Port Townsend, we'll definitely be coming back!

Greeted by the owner's family we felt instantly at home. A quiet warmth with fireplaces, candles, easy chairs, a cribbage board, and a full coffee tea bar in the main room. Out the sliding door is a full covered porch and comfy chairs to watch the tides roll in or out. Very protected by the wind. Humming birds dance on the side. Wood deck chiefs and a swing on the lawn. We chose the Lighthouse room with king size bed. Amazing mattress, window view of the beach and lighthouse of Walden Park. Nicely decorated in nautical beach old time and up dated treasures. Window open to hear the surf. Steam heat is amazing warmth. beautiful room with a sitting room and full bath. If you need to take an extra person there is an extra room connecting with bed. We did not need this room, but nice if we bring a few with us. This is the one you want to check on first. If the website is not working with the WiFi (rain and storms happen in PNW). Then give them a call. Dave answered all our questions and booked us in. This is after one year of covid 19 and this place is clean and staff genuinely kind and responsible. We will come again. The sunsets are surrounding on walks from beach house to downtown port Townsend. We came in rain and still had a fabulous time. Beach house does not have a TV but doe totally relaxation who really needs one. WiFi and electric for cell phone is in place. We ditched it all to enjoy the simple time of a beautiful beach house on a walkable beach and close to marina. We will come again!!

Other reviews are correct: great location, lots of old charm, nice staff, great lobby and brunch, comfortable beds. All 5 stars. But I think for price point, this hotel is not value for money. Rooms are a bit dated with old carpets (according to my wife, ours smelled). Small bathroom with not enough shelf space. Room has no place to hang or put clothing so we had our stuff sprawled all over the place. The hotel needs some upgrades to charge what they charge. 3 stars. One annoyance: The hotel staff tried to presell / upsell overnight parking at $20 when there was plenty (plenty!!) of free parking a block away (and according to my family, parking enforcement is pretty lax).Why do that? 1 star. The king bed is super comfy, and there is a kitchen with everything you might need, as well as board games and puzzles. Everything inside and out is lovingly cared for. There is also a private beach with the prettiest little forest path leading up to it, and lots of seashells and cute birds and otters! You could honestly spend a whole trip on the property enjoying the views and taking walks along the beach. We adored our stay and will definitely be back next time we visit Port Townsend

The balcony is really nice for sitting outside to read or to just watch the traffic on the water. On my first full day, I wanted to make some iced tea and discovered there was no pitcher in the kitchen. I contacted the owner, and within 15 minutes a pitcher was delivered. I appreciated her responsiveness. On the downside, as a person "of an age," it was inconvenient that the bathroom wasn't on the same level as the bedroom, especially for those middle-of-the-night trips. I also was surprised that my full balance owing was charged to my credit card two weeks before my arrival. Other than that, this is a lovely place to stay.

[Note: no extra plush blankets provided, but the in-room heater was good]. Reviews of the water front motels in Port Townsend mentioned bed bugs which scared me and led me to book here. You should think about staying at Mansera Castle if you like character and history because the building has a palpable sense of olden times built into the architecture, the creaky stairs, the narrower door frames, and the oldest working elevator in the state (it's a bit like a freight elevator with brocade dressing). However, the lack of accessible entryway (a flight of steep stairs to get inside) and an antique elevator that is only operable by hotel staff should warn off people with limited mobility, injuries etc. I used the wonderful WiFi for a night of iPad entertainment while toasty under the covers. It was a fun experience for a night, but it might have been louder had the hotel been full. Nearing Christmas, the hotel staff had decorated the erstwhile Victorian-era wealthy resident's home parlor. This was rather charming to see and definitely not replicable in a sterile, modern hotel chain. This vast building was subsequently used as a Jesuit boarding house for decades. The hotel amenities are barebones relative to a modern hotel chain where you might expect a writing desk fitted with desk lamps, and numerous outlets, etc. My room came with TV, refrigerator, a coffee machine and insufficient wall outlets. Even the internal phone system was non existent. Downstairs lobby has coffee in the morning. No breakfast included in the price. The whole historical immersion experience is unique however.

She really didn't want to talk to us or write our information down. Showers were mediocre because the setup quite frankly sucked. The walls are tight and the shower head doesn't have a good range of motion. That means the water is constantly spraying your head and it's hard to clean the lower body. Walls were a bit on the thinner side, so noise is audible but not too bad.
