So this is a review of my experience here though we didn't stay there. It is a great historical example of a waterfront hotel built in the late 19th century during the building boom here when Port Townsend was competing with the whole west coast to be a terminus port for trade and economic boom. The railroad never came but the sailors did so this was the brothel, bar, and sailor trade on the waterfront where the respectable affluent families built their Victorian homes above. So glad that further economic boom didn't tear down this cool old buildings and so much of the structures of all kinds around town! We were having a local tourist day from our place across Admiralty inlet with our big dog. While walking the front street before we could notice a lovely older lady was welcoming us and our boy and very happy to see our pup. She was just so much a great ambassador of their business and very engaging that we all enjoyed the encounter. The front entrance decorated well and nice plants in boxes. She had so many dog friendly advice to give us without asking about Port Townsend in general and recommended local dining choices. Not asked for but in hindsight it reminded me of what you'd expect from your concierge at a nice hotel while on vacation. We really enjoyed chatting with her out at the entrance and makes me want to suggest that place for a fun stay. They have 7 rooms I guess that are dog friendly and If we "missed the boat back to Whidbey". Or something more planned, we would def consider staying at this former 19th century brothel turned hotel for sure! It reminds me of a smaller version of the same we stayed at once in San Francisco way up the hill that was not preserved so well. This whole town was designed and developed to compete with west coast 19th century seaports for trade and commerce and it shows. But i think that the thought that railroads would bring prosperity here has left us with survivors of this bygone era!! I'd recommend considering this a a great waterfront stay in this town as it's very convenient and worthwhile! read more

This is a charming hotel conveniently located right in town, has great views and is dog-friendly. But with all its charm, be aware that it is a Victorian hotel, and doesn't have modern amenities like an elevator (had to walk 3 flights of stairs) or built-in AC (had a separate unit and a fan). My earplugs came in handy. If we didn't have a dog and a lot of luggage the stairs might not have been so cumbersome. I should add the staff was kind and offered to help us with our luggage but we declined. read more

This is our stay in Port Townsend. This Vintage Hotel is over 135 years old and has as much original furniture , art and trim as possible. This is a time capsule with a reading room and a chess table. The ceiling in our room appears to be about 25 feet high with a 8 foot light on a chain. We see 3 sets of lace curtains to cover waist to ceiling windows right now. Until you have been in a place like this , you haven't lived in both Centuries. They have a red sticker downstairs that says " They love us in YELP" Nice touch.... read more

Location was great. The room was available earlier than expected. Staff were friendly. My first impression was that there was a very odd smell inside the room, like fast food/garbage so I aired it out by opening windows and they gave me an extra fan. Later, when standing in the parking lot, it became apparent that there was a giant vent (from the pizza place?) outside my window that may have been causing this issue. I asked if I could be moved and was told that all the room smell like this, but I don't think that was true. Maybe the case for all the rooms facing that back corner. The room had everything that was advertised. However, the walls were thin so I could hear a thumping/tapping sound intermittently over the next two nights. I think it was coming from the people next door. I slipped in the extremely slippery bathtub. The curtains did not block out light. There was a full-sized fridge in my room but it kept me awake. Plumbing worked fine. My friend booked the best/most expensive room and they accidentally gave him the keys to an inferior room. He only discovered this when people opened the door when he was inside. I think this error is inexcusable! The keys are brass keys so the hotel gave someone else his 2nd key. I chained my door after that. There is no elevator. I normally like climbing stairs but not with luggage and due to the high ceilings, a floor was like 2 floors. Lastly, it was impossible to get a hold of the manager. They said he was offsite, then they said he was not around and when I called to follow up, no one answered the phone which I thought was weird since it was during business hours, and then when I called from a different phone number, they picked up immediately. read more

What an amazing place in a charming town. My wife was apprehensive about staying in what many call a "haunted hotel" however the spirits that longed since the late 1800's was appealing to me. Unfortunately for me in our 2 day stay I never saw anything of the supernatural. But I did see an immaculate hotel located right in the center of town by the water. Extremely friendly staff starting with Denise who seemed to be in charge of housekeeping. Even asked if she could help us with our bags on the way in and on the way out. Great hospitality here. This place is an immaculately preserved and restored brothel that lasted until the 1930's. Each room still has the name of the women that worked there and I've never seen anything like it. My stayed in Miss Alice's room 7. The room was huge. The bed was the most comfortable I've ever slept on in a hotel. Do yourself a favor if you are doing your research right now and enjoy the magic and charm of this lovely hotel and the Lady in Blue will be very welcoming to you. read more

I am looking for a room because our mother is passing away and our family are long time Port Townsend residents, you told me that all you hotels get together and decide the price together and call it the " going rate". 350$ + dollars. Then you hung up on me. Well, you lie. I have stayed there for 200$ before. You are price fixing. That's illegal, ma'am so lookout for a complaint being filed at the state AND federal level. I'm sure you will not forget your words " we get together and decide" regarding the prices. I came at you a local family in need. God forbid you help a family in mourning. This was my first time visiting Port Townsend and Palace Hotel, and I do plan on returning. Service: The people who worked there were so amazing. They are genuinely nice, interested in the hotel history, and communicative about our stay. They told us we could split our stay and change rooms so we could experience different Victorian styles, and it was so worth it. Rooms: 9A Miss Rose: two person clawfoot tub, high ceiling, and an amazing ambiance. 15 Miss Genevieve: On the Mezzanine and while the ceilings weren't high like the others, the bathroom still had a clawfoot tub and was Victorian themed. Both beds were comfortable (not too soft and maybe on the firm side). I'm not sure if it was the beds or not, but my husband didn't even snore! There were also pillows for days, so if you sleep with a pillow between your legs, you are set. There are some things to note as this is an older building. We were able to hear our neighbors talk sometimes when we stayed in 9A; it was a male voice, so maybe his voice traveled more. The windows did not insulate the noise from outside, but it's a quiet town, so after a certain point, there weren't even any cars driving by. The internet was spotty, but I don't think this is a hotel issue but rather a provider/ small-town coastal thing. read more

Really fun hotel in an amazing area. Right in the middle of Port Townsend, you can literally walk everywhere. There are lots of cute restaurants, restaurants, and shops nearby. The hotel is vintage, but very well maintained. The restoration is gorgeous. Every room has a theme, all building on the history as a brothel. But you knew that! We stayed in Miss Simone's room. Be aware that the hotel does not have an elevator. This was not a problem for us, but it could be for some. If you have a heavy suitcase, the stairs are very real! The staff is wonderful. They were very helpful with absolutely everything. The hotel is dog friendly as well. The only negative, and I suspect this is only in certain rooms, is that at times, it smelled like oil from a restaurant. If you're not familiar with what that smell is, it may not be something that bothers you. I have many years in the restaurant business, so , my nose is pretty sensitive to that. I've seen others right about it and apparently it's because there is a pizza place right below. Granted that this building is over 100 years old, I think it's pretty understandable and unavoidable. Therefore, I will not deduct any stars for that, but peoplewith sensitive noses might want to check with the desk clerk. I just wanna start out by saying that I have been coming to this hotel 2-3 times (or more) a year - since 2018. Originally they used to come in and clean your room daily, and they used to offer you a couple day pass to the Port Townsend gym. It had that small town, friendly atmosphere where you felt comfortable and welcomed. I stayed in pretty awesome rooms, with a kitchen & a full fridge so you could shop for groceries and fill the fridge for your stay. A lot has changed over the years. I am in the Navy, so whenever I come and stay at this hotel, it's for at least one week, but could be two weeks or more. When I stay here, I ask for a government rate. Due to my long stay, I prefer a room with a kitchen so I can cook my own meals and not eat out every night. Since 2020/2021, they limit what rooms are available to government employees, stating they lose money on us because we get a government rate. Therefore, limiting us to a limited number of rooms with kitchens but majority without kitchens. I mean, come on! They don't even offer a continental breakfast! This is not some luxury vacation. I'm not trying to get a military rate so I can have fun. I'm leaving my family and traveling across the United States because it's my duty to this country. The way I see it is if the room is available and hasn't been booked at the time I'm calling then aren't you making money by us booking it even at a lesser rate? Just to clarify, I was willing to move room to room! So I wouldn't be in a "superior" room for too long. But, nope. 2 nights in a superior room that has not been booked yet, potentially can put them out of business- per what was stated to be in a voicemail (which I still have). The hotel doesn't even clean the rooms everyday so they are saving money on housekeeping! I have stayed 12 days before and had to ask for a sheet change and fresh towels and take out my own trash. None of which is a big deal, BUT seems to me like you're saving money in that aspect. There is no air condition, no elevator, no complimentary food, the front desk doesn't have 24 hour service, unpaved parking lot (where myself and others have had our spot taken by another car), and no daily housekeeping. Many other hotels in the area have kitchens/ kitchenettes and do not discriminate against a person using the government rate. Many offer free breakfast, a gorgeous water view, daily housekeeping, some have air conditioning, and all others have an elevator. In fact, I'm currently at Harborside Inn, with a free breakfast, beautiful water view, vending machines, and a paved parking lot. So, you win, Palace Hotel! You can lose my 2-3 times a year for a 1-2 week stay business, since you make so much more money off others. Thank you SO much for your support of the military. I will be SURE to pass that along to others I work with. read more

Just to be clear: There are no elevators. If you're not a stairs person, I'd recommend someplace else. For us, this was a great base camp to explore Port Townsend. It's right downtown and across Water St from Better Living Through Coffee (our daily jumpstart). The rooms are very cute - but can be hot when the sun is out all day. We had an amazing stay at the Palace Hotel over the Thanksgiving holiday! The room was absolutely beautiful, and so clean. Front desk staff was helpful and kind. The location is perfect for exploring Port Townsend, shopping and going to restaurants. My parents stayed at a different hotel in Port Townsend and the entire trip they were disappointed that they had not booked at the Palace Hotel instead. They spent a lot of time relaxing in the lobby and people watching. The holiday decor was beautiful and really put us in the holiday mood. This hotel was super cute. But beware, there are no elevators haha. Normally this wouldn't have been an issue or nothing for me but I'm in the last week of my second trimester and babies getting a little heavy for their steep stairs but overall visit was pleasant. For a building that is 135years old it's great! My husband and I had a loft style unit, cute cozy apartment style room with large windows that oversaw the back side, all the water view rooms were booked for the weekend. But took a peek of their waterside room and it was beautiful! I would definitely stay here again maybe when I'm not pregnant, haha. read more

This was such a delightful stay while in Port Townsend! The Palace Hotel screams of character, as it was once a brothel back in the day, so each room is named after a woman. I really like that the hotel has honored its history, furnishing and decorating to the Victorian style that it remains today. We were able to do an advanced check-in the day of, where an employee called us to get our payment information and said that a parking pass would be ready for us by the time we arrived. There's a guarantee policy here that your room will be ready by 3PM of your arrival. Once we got into town, The Palace Hotel was easy to find, as it's located right in downtown Port Townsend, with its own parking lot in the back of the building for guests. Once we checked in, the friendly employee welcomed us, gave us the keys and parking pass and then instructed us how to get to our second-floor room. As we were making our way to the other room to go up the stairs, he saw that we had many luggage items to carry; so he offered to carry some for us while he escorted us to our room, which was kind of him to do. Note that there are no elevators here. We stayed in the Miss Colleen room, which was fantastic! It was much larger with an entryway and a corner spot. The room was very clean and neatly decorated. Items in the room included a TV, fan, fridge, microwave, coffee, tea, toiletries AND a doggie package for our furry baby, which included her own sheet, towel and two doggie bowls. Loved that! Throughout the hotel for guests are community areas where you can lounge and relax, including a library on the second floor that was by our room. So cool! We enjoyed our stay very much, and felt as if we were a part of the town's history. Of course, we wandered around much of the property - so much fun to see the other rooms and plan for future visits. It is all about location, location -- The hotel is in the historic/harbor part of town. You can walk everywhere, exploring the little shops and restaurants. Nice little coffee shop across the street that had a town square with lots of little tables. Different musicians were playing music everyday there and I could hear it from my room (windows were open as I like fresh air). Often I would head down to grab a coffee to enjoy it more. Hotel has tons of character! Loved all the little lobbies/lounge areas on each floor. Room was charming, spotless, and clean. Most importantly comfortable bed and furniture. Kitchen was also stocked with nice quality dishes, etc. One thing to point out - lots of stairs, so pack light (I didn't), but it was good exercise for me. We loved this place! Stayed in Capt. Tibbals, a beautiful room with an excellent view out at the water. Very comfortable bed, attractive period pieces in our room and throughout common areas. The location is ideal, easy walk to restaurants and shops; a terrific coffee house across the street and a really good liquor store right next door. What else do you need? And the staff, so friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about their town. No elevator and no a/c, and they are very upfront about that, but that's the sum total of any possible deterrents to staying at The Palace. read more

Stayed for a night over Thanksgiving weekend and had a great time here. Location is excellent if you plan on spending a day shopping and dining in the area. Staff is super friendly, they called ahead of time to let us know we could stop by early before check-in for guest parking around back (which is GREAT on a busy day). Room was clean was stocked with the usual amenities. The Victorian-inspired interior of the whole building is very charming and really adds to the novelty of it all, it definitely was a memorable addition to our trip. Soooooo cool! We booked a loft room for a weekend away without kids and it's so beautiful here. Original wood and decor throughout plus some modern upgrades. The hotel is right in the middle of downtown Port Townsend, I could walk to everything I needed, coffee, Pizza, the bank, and the bookstore, I was set! This hotel is so comfortable, we loved our room (33 on the third floor) the bed was up on a loft, with a spiral staircase leading up to it. very nice kitchen, and the cozy chairs and sofa just made me want to curl up with a cup of tea and read my new books all day! I wanted to play my classical guitar as I'm sure the acoustics in the room would have been fantastic, but the walls are somewhat thin and we could easily hear our neighbors, so my guitar stayed in the case. We will return without a doubt. read more

Loved our stay here! Stayed in an updated loft (room 33) and it was an exceptional experience. Very spacious and comfortable. I'm now extremely nervous to travel post COVID, but the room was not only tidy but truly clean. This location is lovely and very walkable. Only critique is that mattress is very firm/uncomfortable, could definitely use a mattress topper. But after a long day of exploring PT, you'll still sleep soundly on the Sound. We enjoyed our stay here. Comfortable apartment with everything we needed. We stayed in Miss Lilly's room. Plenty of towels and a comfortable bed to sleep in. Felt very nostalgic that's for sure. The furniture was not too comfortable due to the Era it was from. It did come with a friendly ghost spirit that seemed to appreciate the 1930's music we played. Beware she will drain your energy unless you tell her not to. Stairway to the 3rd floor is a bit tough at our age but we made it work. The never ending smell of pizza that's embedded in the building takes a bit to get used to from restaurant on the street level. An upgrade of the coffee maker would be awesome, k-pod instead of filter and grounds in a bland pack. We did have alot of fun on our stay and enjoyed the town. read more

The palace hotel is simply beautiful. Located in the heart of Port Townsend's waterfront, this former brothel revels in it's history to create a wonderful stay experience. I've never enjoyed staying at a hotel as much as I did during my night at the palace. The front desk checked us in quickly and efficiently, even calling ahead to the restaurant across the street to make us a reservation. We had booked the Romance Package for our room so there were fresh roses, champagne on ice, handmade chocolates from a local PT shop, and even an adult boardgame waiting for us - The board game, An Enchanting Evening, was actually neither cheesy nor tasteless. It was actually a very romantic game to play together and had us talking, laughing, and feeling all warm and melty about each other throughout - The romance package also included part of our dinner at the Belmont Inn, but the meal was so good that it really warrants it's own review. The room we stayed in was Marie's Suite. I was a bit worried about having a room right over the main drag of port townsend, but i can't think of a single time that evening where I could hear a car pass by below. The room was beautifully appointed and very comfortable. The ferry service to Port Townsend from Whidbey Island is walk-on only, which made for a beautiful boat ride across the sound and only a very short walk from the terminal to the hotel. All of the shops are within easy walking distance, as well as a huge selection of places to eat. Leaving the car behind worked out perfectly for us. If you're looking for a weekend escape with someone special, I can't recommend the Palace Hotel, and the romance package, enough. read more

The ancient but well-dressed, sprawling Victorian hotel in downtown Port Townsend is a treasure and destination in its own right. The rooms each have their own character: we choose to forgo the better views of the Puget Sound in favor of the Crow's Nest: a bedroom perched above the exposed brick sitting area, a nest to touch the high ceilings, over the galley kitchen. We went to the 24 hour Safeway and bought some food for a late night snack. I snuck out in barefeet and shorts to the Palace library, borrowed a few books and glossy magazines and read about the Northwest back in the day. I was too afraid of the ghosts of bon vivants to use the chaise lounges or other period sofas in that sitting area, or in the mid-level stately mezzanine. Even coming from the older coast, growing up amongst historic towns of Connecticut and Massachusetts, I never believed a place like this could exist. Must be seen to be believed: worth the price of admission and more. There could be no better gateway to the story of Port Townsend, no way to get more comfortable with its majestic architecture. Pleasant place to stay for a weekend getaway. It's not the cheapest place but you're paying for ambience and taking a step back in time. Don't expect room service or breakfast - they're not on the bill of fare but do expect to stay in a relaxing, cozy, unhurried timeless environment. My only caveat is: if you park your car in the back of the hotel during certain seasons when nesting birds and their chicks are beginning to get airborne, make yourself familiar with the location of the hose. No matter where I parked, my car was coated with layers of crap, the likes of which implied that flocks of seagulls, starlings and chaffinches hovered mere inches above my car and pooped en mass. The hotel management know this and are more than willing to let you spray your vehicle off before your leave their lot. Other than that, I love staying there! read more

I typically don't like antiques or old hotels, but this one was so welcoming! My first contact was with a call center guy who told me that there were no available rooms, but I decided to just call the hotel directly (by searching google and NOT a travel site). The woman at the front desk was so WARM and gladly took my reservation, after hanging up I was looking forward to my stay. Upon arrival, I was greeted immediately and felt WELCOMED and RELAXED. My bags were carried up the stairs and I was shown to my room. My room was 6B (Miss Laney) and it was tidy and cute. I loved the high ceilings and stained glass. It was clean, well equipped, and quiet. I had a nice stay and recommended it to my friends who stayed the following week. They liked it, though half of their party felt a little uncomfortable with the idea of a haunted hotel, but the other half felt it made their stay better. None of us actually had any kind of paranormal experience. Come and support this gem of a local business! Also, great little town! Super friendly and fun! Visit Lehani's Deli and Coffee House (inviting, quick and yummy!) and feel free to skip the overrated Hudson Point Cafe (poor service, dirty and nasty greasy food). Enjoy Port Townsend! read more

This was a very nice and not your usual hotel to stay at. The hotel is a former brothel that has been transformed into a very nice victorian style hotel. The rooms are all different, with prices that vary. We had one of the nicest, the Miss Rose and enjoyed it very much. The room was decorated with nice antiques, except for the TV and Blue ray. The bed was a little firm, but still comfortable. This room came with a large jacuzzi tub, very nice to relax in. Most of the rooms are open if they are not occupied so you can get a nice idea of what they are like. The hotel is ideally located, you can walk to everything in town from there. The Palace Hotel deserves 5 stars in my opinion! It was exactly what I was looking for when I planned my road trip to Port Townsend. The outside of the building is attractive and looks well kept, especially with all of the vibrant flowers - very eye catching. When I first got there, I really appreciated the private parking lot they have around the back of the building. Very convenient because if you plan to stay more than one night, you can keep your car there and walk around town. Walking into the lobby of the hotel, it was like stepping into a different world. Very Victorian and vintage feeling. The front desk clerk, Michael was very welcoming when I arrived. He made checking in a breeze and he was really friendly. My close friend and I wandered up to the 3rd floor where we stayed in the miss Ruby room one night and the miss Mona the next. I had to sleep on a rollaway bed the first night and it was really comfy. Also, it was fun walking around the hotel and exploring. It was nice and quiet. We also sat at the Messanine Lobby and that was a fun and relaxing place to chat. Also, one night we went to the main lobby and played chess. Super fun. The rooms were very clean and the decor was charming. Since we stayed in two different hotel rooms, the housekeeper was kind and respectful and moved all of our belongings to our new room while we were out having breakfast. Check out was a breeze and we were thanked for our stay as we left. When I go back to Port Townsend, I definitely want to stay at The Palace again! Great place to stay in Port Townsend! Loved the history. Pack light because you do have to carry your luggage upstairs. Highly recommend!

TITLE: RM 30--NO COUNTRY FOR OLD KIDNEYS. It's wonderful to find an old classic hotel that has had a tasteful updating like this one. Full of antique furnishings located in several sitting room libraries, this turn of the last century beauty gives you an idea of what "palatial" was like in Port Townsend's heyday. The service was excellent, but I suggest a caution for Room 30 and its twin. If you're from the generation at the end of the alphabet, or an architect, you might like this large 2-story brick, steel, and bare wood modernist room. However, if you have to get up during the night to use the bathroom, it's a bit of a chore. The bed is located in a loft a flight of stairs above the main floor and once you descend to the main floor it's still another 50 feet or so to the bathroom. Otherwise, it's a nice unit with a small kitchen and a great view of the Sound. And it's in a great downtown location. read more
