Located on the south end of Main Street in downtown Sebastopol, kitty corner to the public parking lot. They are housed right on the corner next door to Retrograde Coffee Roasters. I've been wanting to stop in and check out this place as they are local and getting great reviews. The owner said he's been there for over two decades. There is a wonderful collection of loose-leaf tea, books, and gifts. If you are seeking books on spirituality, religion, meditation, etc, they have a nice collection of published work. They also carry beautiful cards, incense, and teapots. They had a special display of their matcha products too. The atmosphere is soothing and peaceful. If you would like to relax with a cup of tea, there are a couple tables inside and a few outside as well. You can see their colorful teapots in the window. read more

It's been a while since i've felt compelled to write a Yelp review, but as a pure coincidence today my girlfriend and I endeavored to try something new: i'm dealing with some health issues and wanted to explore the world of tea at best to help alleviate some of my fatigue from a bombardment of treatment, but if nothing else for the catharsis of a warm cup of tea. We hadn't looked for this particular establishment while Googling nearby tea houses, we were actually walking down the street from having bagels at Grateful (also strongly recommend them, but that's a review for another day). The older gentleman who helped us was an absolute delight (I unfortunately forgot his name which I felt quite guilty about). We asked lots of questions about the different varieties of tea that he had and when I asked for something with a fruity bouquet he recommended a pomegranate cherry black tea that had hands down the most captivating scent i've ever encountered in a tea. There were two small tables inside right by the shopkeeper as well as more seating outside, and my partner and I struck up conversation with another individual who was enjoying the teas at the other table next to us. We sat for an hour and a half enjoying several different teas, keeping both the other patron and the shopkeeper company, exchanging stories and pleasantries, and I was absolutely charmed by this place. Their selection is wonderful, particularly given that this is a quaint little hole-in-the-wall location, and you could tell that the owner loved what he does. We ended up paying less than $20 for several pots that the owner brewed us, as well as some of the aforementioned pomegranate tea that we took home to brew. The value, ambiance, warmth, and every other facet of this business was truly a gem in the rough. Thanks again to this kind store owner for giving us such a memorable experience. They have a huge selection of Hindu&Buddhist statues, along with books covering Christianity to Buddhism, vegetarianism/vegan diets to Native American spirituality. I came here for the tea, thinking they might have a few metaphysical books lying about, as well. I wasn't prepared for the overwhelming feast of books on so many paths of spiritual practice. Something for the kids, something for the armchair gurus, something for the intense scholar. It's all here. I found a comic book about Jainist mysteries, for crying out OM! The little space is filled just to the almost bursting point with chotchkes and gifty things, yet it feels cozy not cluttered. Little tables to sit at and rest between rounds with the stacks. My consort and I shared a delicious house blend of tulsi with rose and lavender while we perused and discussed all kinds of topics with Rob, one of the formidably knowledgable proprieters. I got a couple of ounces of one of their many fine oolongs to take home, and a book about a somewhat obscure Tibetan Buddhist practice, and a bumpersticker that says, "Make Tea Not War." My mother in law gave me a gift certificate for this place, knowing I needed to replace the teapot I'd bought here a number of years prior. Found a beautiful, sleek LARGE round teapot, in red, for $41. It's simple and lovely. I smelled their selection of teas and settled on a mao feng and an oolong. Never had mao feng before, and I'm not big on black teas anymore, but this smelled so delicious. I bought 2 ounces. It's absolutely WONDERFUL. I will have to get some more of that. The oolong is very good too. I do love me some tea, and i drink a fair amount of it every day. I'll come back and get more mao feng, and maybe one day, I'll give matcha a try! read more

I recently hired Many Rivers for a private tea tasting at my big ol' birthday bash. They had to contend with the skateboarding club next door (whack! bang! thud!) and a much larger group of folks than I had anticipated. They were not phased and did a wonderful job. We tasted a wide range of teas and it was rewarding to hear the reactions. Participants really enjoyed the tea and they learned quite a lot. The Many Rivers gang always provide an educational component that is enlightening and fun! They're easy-going, down to earth folks who are a pleasure to be around. Excellent selection of metaphysical books and objets d'art, and we loved their tea selection! One bookcase holds the herbal teas, one holds the various white/green/black teas and blends they create themselves. Decent breadth of tea selections ranging from poor to pretty good quality. Would be nice if they stored the tea in smaller containers to aid in preserving freshness. The customer service, on the other hand, is really wonderful. They have the greatest selection of tea ware in Sonoma County and a treasure trove of really wonderful books spanning practically any spiritual practice you can think of. They also have a good range of tea books (books related to, about, or for preparing/selecting tea) on the back wall which they actually keep stocked and updated as new works come out. Hard to figure out how they cram so many goodies into such a small space! You can easily peruse the tea selection, smell, engage the owners, sample before buying, and purchase variable quantities. As an establishment, I'd give them 4.5 stars but as a tea shop it is more of a 3.5 - have to ding them a bit for mixed results on quality and storage. If they set aside their best, freshest tea in small, airtight packaging apart from the rest and bought and featured a couple even-higher quality ones, Many Rivers would quickly secure their spot as the best tea shop in the region. read more

I absolutely LOVE this place. I've recently started my spiritual journey and have just began to follow my intuition which led me to this place. I love the selection they have of well, everything. I always make it a thing to go through each bookshelf a find a book (or a few) that calls my attention. I was blown away with my last visit. As I was searching, I found the book, "The Power of Now," in Spanish. I was so happy! I was so thankful and grateful that I found something for my mom. This is one of the best book stores ever. The selection is so vast. Some sections are devoted to specifics writers like Rudolph Steiner. The selections on Theosophy, Astrology, and Environmental Books are just the best. Many of these books don't show up at any other stores. It's basically a rare gem store. read more

This is Sebastopol's 'New Age' bookstore, giftstore & tea room. They have an extensive selection of incense & tea, the Best in town. They used to have a monthly paper newsletter they mailed out with a calendar of their events, but that was discontinued, so we're not there as often as we used to be. There's all kinds of 'spiritual' gifts, besides books & teapots. I'm not into shopping at all, but it's fun just to go in & browse around & see what you can find here. That's why I try not to go too often, since I can always find something to buy that I don't really need. This is probably the last of the type of stores that seb used to have, but doesn't anymore. They also have monthly tea tastings & a sale on a different tea every month. Unfortunately, there's no printed list of teas, with a description & price for each one, nor is there anything posted on the wall. You just have to guess, I guess. read more

I love this place. I used to shop here quite a bit when I had money to buy books (I was in almost every Friday to buy a book on whatever topic I was interested in.) Jim is always a delight to deal with when I do get to go in. they have a wide array of books from spiritual / religious topics, yoga, ayurvedic medicine, and lots of other topics as well. they have a good selection of teas, which Jim can prepare for you, or you can buy for use at home. they have spiritual/religious statuary, and incense. once I have money again, I definitely will pop in to see what they have, and if nothing else, I'll get to see Jim's smiling face, which, even if I don't buy books, always makes the trip worth it. you guys rock! read more

Wow, I had tea outside in the courtyard at Many Rivers today. The organic honeybush tea was awesome. The proprietor said he needed change when I was going to pay so I went out to my car to get it. I went to open my car door and my keys fell into the sewer grate! I went back to the tea shop, paid my bill, and the proprietor graciously called the public works and police department. He was so kind! Of course, public works were on their lunch. The police said someone would come by. Another man tried to help me. I got a pole out of my trunk and he poked the keys around. He said I needed a coat hanger. He left and I went back to the tea shop. The proprietor gave me a long metal hair clip someone had left behind. He said I could have it. I fastened to the end of the pole and the owner gave me some packing tape to tape it so it would not fall off. I went back to the grate and stuck the pole down there and hooked the keys with the hair clip and pole. I lifted them up to the grate slowly and got them out!
