This review is solely based on the elderly lady at the front desk and the activities person. My husband and I came in to look around for my father and we were immediately shouted at from the lady at the front desk, "can I help you!!!". We shrugged it off but that was not a great first impression for us. We told her that we wanted to look around but she wouldn't allow that because no one was available to tour us. Again, she was very harsh and extremely rude. Not sure why they would have someone so unprofessional at the front desk. (Strike one) We looked in what seemed to be the activity room and a very disheveled lady told us that she was the activity director. She was also abrupt. My husband asked a couple of questions but she seemed annoyed by him even asking! Again, very unprofessional! (Strike two!) We decided to leave at that point knowing that this wasn't the place for my father. But as we were leaving, the elderly lady was standing there gossiping about a resident with what seemed to be another employee. (Strike three) read more

Save yourself a visit. Very unwelcoming and rude senior employee at front desk. Made uneasy, we then we a hear a woman repeatedly yelling for help, nobody seemed to notice but us. Cafeteria floor covered in food mess and patients alone in wheel chairs with no food/water, laundromat stacked with dirty dishes and old food, very repulsive smell of urine in almost everywhere. False Advertising. Amenities listed on website nonexistent. No 24 hour nurse, No fitness center, No billiards room, no gardening, etc. Getting a direct quote for rent proved impossible. My mother moved to Maple Ridge over three years ago. We have found all the staff to be kind, caring, and pleasant. Some have been there the whole time my mom has, which is saying a lot in an industry that has a high turn over. The lobby is bright and clean. Barry, the full time front desk staff person, has dog treats at the ready and always welcomes us and our dog. The dining room staff are attentive and patient with my mom. There are obvious efforts to make the area outside the front of the building comfortable with cushioned metal chairs and umbrella-shaded tables. Flowers in hanging baskets and pots add bright colors. Activities are planned to try to appeal to different abilities and holiday times are celebrated with special meals and parties. If you are looking for perfection, you will not find it here or anywhere. If you're looking for a place where staff have big hearts, big endurance, and they genuinely care, then give Maple Ridge a try! read more

When I was first looking for a place for my 97 year old Mom facing Hospice Care, I looked at several facilities. The one that was most convenient was Maple Ridge. I read several of the reviews. I became alarmed at some that were very alarming since we had come from a care facility that was poorly managed and actually abused my Mom. After a closer look at the bad reviews, I noted that the dates covered were many years prior. I saw much more complimentary recent reviews so I decided to make an appointment to take a tour. From Bertie answering the phone to Christina James, the manager, I found everyone at Maple Ridge concerned and helpful. The staff are well liked by the long-term residence and everyone, including the staff were joyous. Although my Mom was beyond the ability to participate in any of the activities available to the residence, there was plenty to occupy diverse interests including community participation in fund drives, holiday involvement at many levels, and trips to stores and sightseeing. In addition, the facility was clean and well maintained. My Mom's stay was over 3 holidays and the staff acknowledged each holiday with lavish decorations and food reflecting the season. I was there and took advantage of the holiday dinners and found the food delicious - I even went back for seconds. I was there every day for 8 hours while my Mom was alive and she was treated with such lovely respect. It is a difficult time for families and friends of loved ones and the staff did a wonderful job in the care of my Mom during her final weeks. I sincerely recommend Maple Ridge to families seeking quality and concern for extended care. A very special thanks to the staff who went beyond to assist with not only my Mom's care but that of each resident. They made Mom's final days those of dignity. I will be forever grateful. Absolutely horrible. People are abused. Employees and residents. They do not get good food or service. The alarms in the rooms will go off for so long that people other than staff attend to their needs. read more

My mom has been at Maple Ridge for 5 years. She has gone from being independent to totally bedridden. At this time, she needs total care. I find the staff very personable, helpful, and respectful. They take very good care of my mother. They are always available to answer questions or help my mom with any tasks she needs done. From the front desk, to the dining hall, to the Care staff, Everyone has been really wonderful to work with. read more

Very disappointed with this place. We were promised several things that never happened. My advice is to get everything in writing. We were told every unit is painted and new carpet laid down every time a resident moves out, that never happened. Also that every resident receives a bracelet when they move in, which they can use if they need to get help. My mother has been in the unit for almost a week and no bracelet. Every time she has rung for help it has been at least 20 minutes before someone responds. When you are 98 yrs old and ring for someone to come and help get you to the bathroom, you cannot wait 20 minutes! read more

Wish I could give no stars. We put our dad in this facility on Mother's Day of this year: May 13, 2018. He was there a total of 3 days. He left the facility on his own, just walked out the front door. My father had dementia and was 82. We told them over and over he was a flight risk. It was so scary, he was walking around the country area in the dark evening. The sheriff deputy had to find him. My brother was called, he lives on the island, and took him home to his house. Terrible nightmare to live through. I am very upset to say the least. A 82 year old man with dementia walking in the very dark night along the freeway and country back roads. Can you imagine? We were charged for the extra nights he was at my brother's house. We were out the extra $400.00. The office person said, "We are being generous with you and will let it go." Very snotty remark. Basically, not giving our money back for him not even being there. They are lucky we didn't call our attorney and go through with seeing them. We decided not to. Not only loosing our wonderful father but not giving us our money back for days he was not there. This facility is not for people with dementia. Please be advised. read more

This is a horrific facility. Many of the direct care staff where indeed caring but as they were seriously overworked they were not able to give the care level promised by the administration. The administration promised a level of care that was not possible and subsequently my mother suffered horribly. She had a cracked spine that became pulverized within a couple of weeks. She had dementia and needed basic care; dressing, bathing, assistance with dining and social visits. She was yanked out of bed into a chair and left on her own to eat cold, foul food. We supplied the supplements that she needed to support her ill health and I found out after the fact that they set aside her high quality supplements and instead gave her cheap pharmacy supplied replacements. She was in agony. After numerous falls and yet another trip to the emergency room, staff transferring her to the ambulance said she wouldn't be allowed back. When I called the chief administrator she had a melt down and said my mother was banned from the facility. This was pure gaslighting; they promised they were capable of the care she needed and when this proved to be untrue they blamed her and attacked me. Somewhere in all of this they lost her $1,500. hearing aid and never took responsibility for it. In summary, if you want your loved one to die a prematurely early death this is a great facility. Otherwise, avoid at all costs. read more

My father was moved to maple ridge, unable to care for himself. My adult daughter and I went to visit for the first time and found that he was laying in the bed with dried feces all over him and the bedspread. We also found a tray of food sitting on counter that was cold and was delivered with no utensils. My father was unable to get out of bed and walk as he was in a wheelchair. It appeared that no one bothered to wheel him out of the bedroom to his food tray . I immediately asked the woman at the front desk what time lunch was served. Her reply indicated it had been several hours. It was obvious to us that staff had simply dropped lunch off without waking him -not to mention the absence of utensils. We knew the receptionist was lying to us on many occasions when we called by phone to check on him or speak with him and we were told our father was in the dining room eating dinner. Our suspicions were confirmed when we drove over (which was a good distance away) and we would call from outside of the building and we were told that he was doing great and eating in the dining room and we would walk in two minutes later and would find him in bed or on the couch in his room. My dad had no way of getting to his bed without the assistance of the caregivers and the couch was very small and uncomfortable. On several occasions, my father was placed on the couch in his room rather than in his bed. He often told us that he was in pain from falling. The executive director pulled my family aside immediately upon our arrival to celebrate his birthday and volunteered the admission to us that there had been negligence on her staffs part regarding my dads care and he had been left on couch and had yet another fall the night before his birthday. Will never know if this was due in part to the negligence , but unfortunately, my father was unresponsive from that time forward . We never heard back from the executive director as to what the next step was or if the staff were removed from the facility. My father ultimately passed away in the care of hospice -who would not allow maple-ridge staff into the room, five days after his birthday . He passed peacefully with family surrounding him. All of these incidents were reported. If an elder is unable to speak and or understand his surroundings, I would never recommend Maple-ridge. I found it troubling when I witnessed staff in the dining room being loudly rude and disrespectful to a resident dining who was asking for more coffee. From my first visit and up until my last visit , my family and I were mortified and deeply saddened. Today marks the third year of his passing. Just a little information about this place. We took Mom to check it out, the sales pitch was relentless. Mom gave them a deposit of $500. to hold an apartment until she could decide if she wanted to move there. They kept telling her that they could only hold it for her with a deposit, but if she decided to not take it she would get her money back...You guessed it, They deposited the check and now say it was non-refundable. Beware, these people will take the money from a Senior with a fixed income and not give it back. Just think if they can do that, just how well do they take care of our loved ones...food for thought. read more
