I recently contacted Mar Vista Security and Intercom Systems about upgrading our call box. My initial plan involved spending around $3000 on new hardware and installation to go from land line to cell-based, plus dealing with an ongoing monthly bill of over $50. But Jack turned that around completely with some fantastic advice over the phone. Instead of pushing for an expensive upgrade, Jack recommended switching our land line provider from AT&T to Spectrum. This simple change would save us over $300 per month without needing to touch any of our existing equipment--and he didn't charge a dime for the consultation! We're talking $30 a month for a business landline with Spectrum versus the whopping $360 we were paying AT&T. Thanks to his pointer, Spectrum is coming out tomorrow to handle the switch and finally rid us of that overpriced service. What really sets Jack apart is that he was the only one out of several companies I contacted who actually suggested this smart solution. The others either ghosted me or tried to upsell unnecessary work. Jack's honesty and willingness to help, even if it meant no immediate business for him, speak volumes about his integrity. I waited a couple of months before writing this Review, just to give Jack a chance to fix my Alarm that he disabled. But no call ever came, so here it is: Jack should close his Business. I don't understand all these 5-Star Reviews. He forgets that you have an appointment with you. You will need to call him over and over to remind him if you can get a hold of him. Then, when he shows up, he will charge you a minimum of $260 for the Service Call. But he won't fix things, and he will not check if everything works. Then, a week later, to come over and fix the mess he left, he'll charge you another $260. And guess what? After he came over the second time, my alarm won't work at all. Of course, when you call him once again, he will tell you that he is "working on a solution" , but he will never call you back. He has probably long forgotten that he was at your House. Please retire, Jack. And don't come back here. read more

My old intercom stopped working 10 yrs ago...over the years I tried to get it repaired only to be told many times that it wasn't fixable and had to be replaced. Our West LA 6-unit townhouse building was constructed in 1980, and the intercom controlling access through the front gate is still the original one. One of the townhouse units was recently sold, and the new owner said that her intercom to the front gate wasn't working. The last repairperson we'd used is not longer in business, so I was concerned about finding someone who could still work on these old intercoms. Lucky that I came across Mar Vista Security and Jack! Jack came out the same day that I called him, and he was able to diagnose and fix the problem in less than 30 minutes, which was a BIG relief. I wouldn't hesitate to call them again. Jack is awesome! It can be difficult to find somebody that you can trust and isn't just out to get your money but Jack is that guy. I called because I was having intercom issues and Jack gave me some advice over the phone because it seemed like such an obvious issue and turns out he was right! Jack is the best ever. He tried valiantly to revive and reset my old Morse Alarm system. But it was completely ruined by a giant power surge after a long blackout. Morse has been out of business for many years now, but he found a new Honeywell unit that is compatible with the old Morse wiring already in our walls. This saved us thousands of dollars. He and his wife also fixed my broken intercom system in about an hour. He charged me $50! I was so impressed with him that I asked what else he did besides alarms and intercoms. He does security cameras too. That's going to be my next project. I worked in the courts system for 38 years, if everyone was like Jack and his wife I would have been out of a job! read more

Long overdue review -- I spoke extensively on the phone with Jack about different security system options -- he went way above and beyond to understand my needs, explain some things that were confusing me, and give me different options. He never seemed rushed - on the contrary, he was extremely patient and generous with his time and experience. I'm so used to bad customer service it was a bit shocking to deal with someone so dedicated to being helpful. Jack installed a new intercom in our 5-unit condo building. We had three separate companies quote the work. Jack had the best cost. He did an excellent job. Plus, he helped save our HOA quite a bit of money but telling us how to set up a VOIP line instead of having a telephone line installed. That saves our HOA over $300 per year. Schedule to connect an intercom to the new Verizon phone line in a building. Jack came on time and did a good job. But for the last week I've been requesting an invoice for the services he rendered (and are already paid for) with no success. How hard is it to write an invoice? I'm giving two stars because of the good service. I'm changing my review to 4 stars because Jack was a gentleman calling an apologizing for his QuickBooks not working properly. Jack and his helper did a very good job installing the security system in the building I manage. He designed the layouts and worked with our contractor to get the right lines put in prior to the actual install of his equipment. The cameras he installed have very good resolution and he was able to get everything to fit in the rather small area we had available to use for the equipment. He has also been extremely good about coming back to take care of problems that turned out to not have been related to the equipment he installed. I highly recommend him. read more

I'm in the process of selling my house and I can't ignore the zone light that has been flashing for the last year anymore. I got on Yelp and started calling the security companies with the best ratings and reviews. I talked to three companies and each one told me that they couldn't fix my system, that they'd have to replace my keypads and bypass the offending zone with wireless equipment. When Jack at Mar Vista security called me back we reviewed the situation. He told me up front what he charged and we set an appointment. It took Jack about an hour and a half to isolate and fix the problem. He didn't need the installer code and he didn't sell me different or new equipment. He replaced some kind of electrical component and I paid for that. The total was reasonable and Jack is pleasant and apparently very good at what he does. He told me that his back up was what his competition was suggesting, but that he wouldn't suggest that without first troubleshooting for a less costly solution.
