This was our first sit down dinner of our stay at Valentin Imperial Maya. If you have a larger group (we had 8 people), get there right around 6 or plan for a bit of a wait. This restaurant is one of the larger ones at the resort, so we were seated right away.
The first visit I ordered the ribeye and the salmon tartare. The ribeye was very thinly cut, not exactly what I expected, but it was very flavorful and well seasoned. Plus it was cooked perfectly to my request.
The salmon tartare was an interesting texture, but I enjoyed the flavors. I also tried the tuna sashimi appetizer, which was fresh and a bit spicy. Nate and I also shared an order of sweetbreads, which we were warned are "not bread," which we knew but was helpful. They were deep fried but not overly heavy, served with a delicious dipping sauce. I really enjoyed them.
We came back with a smaller group for breakfast on our last day, which was a mistake - in that we should have been coming here for breakfast every day!
The menu has some delicious Mexican dishes including enchiladas, chilaquiles, and my personal favorite, the motulenos eggs, which was a saucy dish served with fried plantains, bacon, hash brown, and sausage. I loved this dish so much and will be attempting to recreate it at home! read more
