I've bought several bicycles from Salem Cycle and have enjoyed the process and customer service every time! Most recently, I wanted a carbon fiber frame road bike at a specific price point and component level. I approached the staff about my intentions and price range. I was presented with several options. Dan made a point of measuring my dimensions on the gear-fitting apparatus and suggested a frame size based on my unique fit. We tested several bikes across multiple brands and I made a guided decision. I made a down-payment on a special-order bike. It arrived within a week! They called me in for a "fitting." They took the time to setup the bike to my preferences. They had me sit on the bike while they measured my reach to the stem and the pedals. They dialed-in the seat-post and stem angle while I was in the shop. This took several go-arounds. Their commitment to getting it right was obvious and I was afforded the opportunity to be picky by circling the block several times and coming back for minor tweaks. Salem Cycle has been fantastic in follow-up too! I got a 30 day tune-up that I didn't ask for until well after 30 days!! I've also asked for some special follow-up tuning that included switching to cyclocross tires for a unique Randondee. The shop was agreeable to me coming in and fitting cyclocross tires on my bike to see if they fit. Salem Cycle has been incredibly handy in picking up those "immediate need' items like tubes, lube, and water bottles. When I need something on-the-spot, Salem Cycle has been my go-to LBS shop. The prices are comparable to on-line for consumables and the staff is eager to make recommendations. Most recently, they were able to recommend an environmentally sound, aerosol de-greaser in-shop that was an incredible value! I've gone back twice to get the same product! I love this shop and have committed to making it my LBS for my needs. And I love that they sponsor local races! As an avid cyclist, I have patronized all of the local bike shops on the North Shore of MA. And I keep coming back to Salem Cycle as my go to shop. This year, I wanted to purchase a single speed cyclocross bike. After doing some online research, and looking around, it became evident that I would not be able to get what I wanted without building a bike from the ground up. I went to see Dan at Salem Cycle and we talked about what I wanted, how much I wanted to spend and what the purpose of the bike was going to be... some racing, some training. A few days of informative emails back and forth regarding component options and availability, and within a week I had a Redline Conquest Pro SSCX built to the exact specifications I wanted, right down to the cable housing and chain color. About 8 years ago, I asked a friend about purchasing a good road bike. I'm a mountain biker, so I really had no idea what to look for in a road bike. He said buy a good frame with Shimano 105 components and it will last you 10 years. And so Dan at Salem Cycle hooked me up with my first (and only) road bike. A Lemond Buenes Aries. Last week I brought it Back to Salem Cycle for it's first tune up. Besides a change of seat post and a few tires and inner tubes, I really had nothing done to the thing after 8 years of reasonable riding. When I picked it up and took it for a spin, I was immediately impressed with how well of a tune up it had gone through! It felt brand knew and felt as if it was good for another 8 years! I have nothing but good things to say about this place. I like supporting local businesses and Salem Cycle is the quintessential local business. I was looking for a new road bike and I shopped around some of the local Boston-area stores, but I had trouble with unhelpful and surly sales people. If there's one thing I can't stand, it's pedantic and condescending specialty store sales people. I got no hint of that here at Salem Cycle. Dan was very helpful and provided excellent service after we made our purchases. They are very straightforward and competitive on price -they will match or beat anyone else in the area. Had to put in a good word for the guys at Mhd Bike Shop after having an awesome repair experience. After hauling my bike to Burlington and other far-off destinations in search of a good mechanic AND good service, I got both with Chris and John. They called me when they had a time slot to work on my bike so I could keep riding until they had an opening for me. Once they had the bike, they had me on speed dial and told me what was wrong, what they recommended and why to fix the issue. Marblehead Cycle is a well balanced bike shop targeting the majority of what the general cyclist needs. While it can go high end (I'm fairly certain local pro riders have serviced their bikes here), you do not feel like you're out of your league or looked down upon, like some other shops I've been in. It covers everything from entry level (my kids get their bikes here) to enthusiast and even has a fairly new selection of skateboards; so the clientele is mixed. I'd definitely consider this a your local bike shop if you lived in the Marblehead and or Salem/Swampscott vacinity. Plus, you gotta love the classic Schwinn sign on the building, for the elder statesmen out there. read more

I just bought a bike from Marblehead Cycle, a new trek. I am an avid cyclist. I only have one car and use my bike to get almost everywhere on the North Shore. Both Chris (the owner) and Larry were very helpful as I called them several times throughout the week and stopped by the shop to test drive various models. They were also very helpful and quick in fixing my old bike. They were easy to talk to and very knowledgeable--and very accommodating. I was also thrilled to buy locally. I live in Boston and I cycle all over New England, from Bar Harbor, Maine to many points on the North Shore, and have found that Marblehead Cycle has become my go-to shop. My best friend and I were on a long ride today while it was raining and she got a flat tire. We called the shop a few minutes before they were closing and asked if they could let us in past closing time for help. They were so great to us and let us in even though it was way passed their closing time. Dan and his team were so kind and helpful to us, they fixed my friends flat, gave us cookies, didn't charge for labor and refilled our water. We really loved them and hope to visit them again soon. Very pleased with the responsiveness, expertise and excellent service from Salem Cycles! Needed a hard to locate tool to install my new Bottom Bracket on my mountain bike and many of my local shops had no idea of what I needed. A search of the Park Tools website showed that Salem Cycles was the only place in a couple hundred miles with it in stock. A quick call or Dan to confirm, an easy web order and the tool arrived the next day with very reasonable shipping. My favorite store in Marblehead!!! Having a bike shop in town that bends over backwards to make sure you have your bike when you need it ROCKS!!! They are aware about the lack of bike stores in Salem and hence using monopoly by charging customers more and being arrogant to customers need.
