Had four stem cell treatments on my neck. After the four treatments Dr. Darrow told me it was apparent the stem cells were not working for me. I also did two treatments for TMJ and my shoulder and there was no improvement in those areas either, but truthfully they may have required more. It was just so pricey, with no guaranteed results, that I decided to stop. Moreover, my brother who is a Doctor researched this modality and felt it was not a reliable modality. If you have lots of money to gamble with I'm sure Dr. Darrow sees results in some or possibly many patients. But i just felt it important to mention, for those of you with limited resources, that not everyone sees results. Update in response to Dr. Darrow's reply below: Dr. Darrow, I understand that I did sign a consent that stated there are no guaranteed results. This review does not deny that. But as a long-time advocate of consumer rights I felt compelled to make prospective patients aware that this is costly and that not everyone benefits (I myself spent over $10,000). After my original YELP post, you had invited me to come back in for a series (you did not specify the amount) of complimentary treatments in hopes that I would have success with the stem cells. Minutes BEFORE what was to be only the second complimentary treatment, in an angry tone, you asked me how many treatments I expected from you. I responded that it was YOU who had invited me to come back in; it was not me who requested this of you. Your response was (paraphrasing): "well obviously these stem cell treatments are not working for you. I'll give you this one last treatment (the second one) for free and then we are done". Again I had not asked for the treatments; you offered. I had pain in my left heel from planter fasciitis for a year and a half before coming to see Dr Darrow. By the time I went to see him, I had been to see many other doctors as well as doing PT. I had gotten the pain down to about a level 3-4 but if I walked even around the block it would go back up to a 7-8. I thought I was going to have to have surgery but I really didn't want to do that. This was a lingering pain that had me believing that I wouldn't be able to walk comfortably again unless I had surgery. Dr Darrow said he could help and he did. After 6 injection I would say my pain was down to a level 1 but it continued to get better in the next couple of weeks after my treatment had finished. Today I would say it is down to a .5 level of discomfort. Even with me walking for 45 minutes, the pain has never has gotten worse than that .5 level. This is something I can live and function with so I am very happy. At some point I will be going back to Dr Darrow to help me with my shoulder pain. I wouldn't go back to him if his treatments didn't work. I think that says a lot about Dr Darrow and his treatments! I should also say that everyone in the office is really nice and helpful. I highly recommend that anyone considering surgery first consult Dr. Darrow and Dr. Grove. I am a current patient under the care of Dr. Grove and received a series of PRP injections in my left and right knees to heal two torn meniscus; I also received the injections in my right ankle for a separate issue also related to a running injury. Dr. Darrow helped restore my knee to its original state. I have osteoarthritis in both knees and my right knee was stiff and painful. I was having pain in my sternoclavicular joint for the past 6 months. Nothing was helping. There was soreness to the touch and when I put my arm across my chest it hurt even more. There was even a crunching sound when I did shoulder rolls so I assumed I had some kind of arthritis or ligament laxity around the joint . I did some chiropractic work and acupuncture but those treatments didn't help much. After extensively researching prolotherapy and its benefits I decided to give it a try with Dr Darrow. I knew that because of the area being treated it could take several sessions to get some relief since it is a very mobile area of the body. I went with PRP since the pain I was experiencing wasn't too bad. If it was a tear or something more serious I would have opted for Stem Cell therapy but for me I felt PRP would be fine. Dr Darrow and his staff are absolutely excellent! I had my right knee operated on when I was 20 years old...the surgeon removed the torn meniscus and told me that what I have is "progressive," and that later in my life I might have to address my knee issue again. Fast forward 23 years later...my knee was killing me for the past 6-8 months. It would hurt like heck by simply sitting down! Every night after work I had to ice my knee and take pain meds. We had to leave the Hamilton play after the 1st intermission the pain was unbearable (and I took pain medication prior to the performance). I've had excruciating and debilitating pain in my neck for years. Here's my story: I had an ACL reconstruction surgery and never fully recovered from it. A year after, I was in pain still limping and extremely frustrated because I used to be active. It has now been a little more than 2 years after Dr. Darrow performed 4 stem cell treatments on my left knee. The first review describes the extent of the basketball related damage to my left knee (2 arthroscopic surgeries initially to smooth out a large piece of damaged cartilage and 10 years later to remove most of the meniscus that got severed and locked up left knee). I've received a couple inquiries asking for an update from my review in Oct, 2016 that was after the last treatment. My left knee has continued to improve and is now much better than it was soon after the last treatment where I could walk 0.5 miles to now I'm walking 2 miles with no pain. I'm also able to play 18 holes of golf with a cart with no pain, and can sit for long periods and get up and able to walk normally. Dr. Darrow had recommended to use a cart to play golf. I got the opportunity to play 4 courses in Ireland on our recent vacation in June with friends. There were 3 of the links courses that didn't allow carts and you had to walk 18 holes. I was able to walk only 12 holes on the first course, after a morning spent in Dublin walking 2-3 miles prior to playing. However, when played golf first thing was able to walk 16 holes on 2nd course, and by the 3rd course was able to walk all 18 holes. My left knee did get sore and a little stiff on each occasion, but after resting 30 minutes I could walk with the left knee pain free. The only activities that my left knee won't tolerate is when I carry heavy boxes for more than 30 minutes, or climb a hill. The extra weight causes the left knee to get sore and stiffens causing me to limp. I was able to walk most of the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland where a lot of climbing is involved, but did have to take a break between climbing the north side before venturing up the southwest side and back. However, given 20-30 minutes rest my left knee was pain free and able to walk pain free. Dr. Darrow had originally told me to expect a 50-70% improvement after 5 to 6 stem cell treatments. I had a stretched and slightly damaged MCL, I did not want to get anymore hardware in my knee that already had a replaced ACL. Dr Darrow is nothing short of a Rock Star. He fixed my knee in 4 visits when two doctors said i needed surgery. That was about 6 years ago. I have recommended at least a half dozen people to his office and they have all had positive results. I love the fact that he makes no guarantees and is incredibly humble.
