I've seen Marcel Orthodontics balloons all over the Livermore Farmer's Market for years but prior to 2019 have not had the pleasure of working with them. Dr. Marcel's office is known for being reputable and a well-run practice and I couldn't agree more. My 8 year old just had his braces put on this past October and while we've already had 2 incidents with the bands and spring/wire, they are quick to squeeze us in for repairs. Today my autistic teen got his braces off and I was genuinely touched by how compassionate and kindly Dr. Marcel and his staff treated my son. They are truly a remarkable group of people (as evidenced by all the charity work Marcel Orthodontics does for the Livermore & Pleasanton communities) and so great with special needs patients. Additionally, they gave my son a goodbye gift: a balloon along with some popcorn & candy for finishing up his treatment. As for his office, my kids love coming here. It's a very inviting environment and nicely decorated for some of the holidays. Like with many other offices, complimentary WiFi, coffee/snacks/cookies and charging stations are available. They even have two massage chairs in the waiting area! As for costs and billing, I find that they are comparable with other orthodontists in the area. I'll leave this here, I've been a patient since I was 12 and brought my now 13 & 15 year old to his practices.. two rounds of Invisalign down the drain. Went to a new ortho and they actually said my kids had no business being in Invisalign and would need corrections done with braces. Not to mention a portion of their treatment landed in "Covid times" so we were unable to get last set of trays and told to wear trays for 2 months at a time. So much to review but I'll spare you. Still so frustrating we paid over 20k for literally no reason. Now have to correct that is just unfortunate. Beware, times have changed, I believe back in the day this was an honest practice. read more

We have been seeing Dr. Marcel and his staff for almost 3 years now but treatment during the last year and a half. It was refreshing to be seen and have a consult without being charged at the end. We did this several times until Dr. Marcel felt my son was ready to start with treatment. Even then, my son didn't declare he was ready so he decided to have us wait 6 more months. At that time, my son was very ready to do something and it's been a great success so far. Everyone at this office is so friendly and helpful from financial issues to scheduling to adjusting treatment/schedule to the attitude of your child. It helps that there are 2 massage chairs for the grown ups, video gaming for the kids, and coffee in the waiting area as well. Their holiday decorations are worth a trip in. As a family with financial challenges, the office and Dr. Marcel worked closely with our family and we receive the same treatment as anyone else. So thankful for the equal treatment as this hasn't been the case in other dental offices. My son was a good candidate for Invisalines. I was skeptical to start treatment at age 8 when this is the kid that can't find a matching sock in the morning or a permission slip in his backpack. The Marcel office has incentives and they work. It's really helped my son become more independent to the point he now reminds me at age 10 that it's time to switch out the Invisiline down to the day and hour I had braces as a kid and remember the appointments and time I had to wear them with a hideous headgear that covered my entire head. This is so much better and results are much faster. We try to arrive early so the kids can enjoy game time, mommy gets a massage and I wasn't quick enough to get cookie pics before they ate the whole thing, but think Otis Spunkermyer right out of the oven.. I think I am the oldest client of Dr Marcel. I will be 60 in the coming August. Today I have my braces taken off after having them for 2 years and 10 months. Since my teeth were not in good alignment, in order to clean them better, I brushed my teeth very hard and of course severe gum recession was my consequence. Thanks for Dr Marcel he helped my teeth to regain its tidiness so I can clean my teeth more easier. Even there is still some minor correction need to be correct by my retainer, I trust Dr Marcel will fix it for me. Shirley, she helped me most of the time. I really really appreciate her patience to me. She is skillful. She explained to me every procedure before she did it. And she did it as gentle as she can. We were greeted by an offer of a free slushy walking up, then the office was full of colorful seasonal decorations that were so cheerful! The receptionists were smiling and friendly and they immediately got us going in the right direction! I got to wait in a massage chair and sip coffee! My daughter got braces put on and along the way, she was asked her comfort level and the steps were explained to her clearly. Marcel "gets" kids and teens and does a premium job of serving them! I have been going to Dr. Marcel and his awesome staff for the last 9 months or so. Coming from someone who has had braces before, I am very relieved with how it's been so far because I wasn't initially looking forward to it. They did the job but there are cons. Receptionists aren't friendly AT ALL. When you have to see them every time it starts to get annoying. The hygienists can be bothersome. Funny part is that Dr. Marcel glances at my profile screen for one second to view my name, then he acts like he knows it. He checks your teeth for 10 seconds MAX and then leaves the hygienists to do the rest. Also, they did even tell me how to take off my retainers, so I loosened out my first pair (unwearable). They care more about their look than their patient care. LISTEN TO THIS: they give people gift card money to write 5 star reviews. They don't actually say to give five stars but you know how it is. So don't believe all of these reviews. Wouldn't recommend. read more

I wouldn't go to him again Worst orthodontist ever. When I called him out on an issue with my teeth, he was extremely rude and even wanted me to pay more money to fix his screw up. When I said no, I wouldn't pay for it, he said "Fine, I'll eat it then" and walked away. We had other issues with our kids teeth. Ended up taking my kids to a totally different orthodontist for phase 2 of there work. Many other of my friends had issues too and ended up taking their kids somewhere else. For background, my original ones were made years ago, not by Dr. Marcel. I really appreciated the transparency of pricing upfront and the helpfulness of the staff over the phone. Sometimes time is more valuable than having to go through a consultation for something you know should be straightforward. For the actual appointments, I appreciated how friendly the staff was and how Dr. Marcel took time to meet me even though I was more of a one-off patient. Of course I am not an orthodontist but I trust his judgment on the retainer fitting itself :) The location itself was warm and inviting - massage chairs, games for the kids, and tvs in the ceiling for those getting their teeth worked on. Can I give 10 stars? I love love love Dr Marcel and his staff! I had invisalign this past summer because guess what....I never wore my retainer when I was in my 20s! Now in my 40s my teeth are shifting. I wore invisalign ALL day and night as recommended by Dr Marcel and guess what - they moved in the exact amount of time he projected. For the people that complain that invisalign took longer then expected - did you truly wear them 22 hours a day? Sometimes our bodies also dont follow exactly how we think they will and you may need them a bit longer. All I can say is, I followed his direction for wearing them, he did IPR which I was freaked out about, but they turned out perfect too! His staff goes above and beyond every single time I've gone in there, you feel like you are talking to an old friend, literally ever time I have sat down! I can't say enough good things about this office! Are they expensive? I don't know, I priced out a couple different orthos and I think Dr Marcel is priced accordingly. Finished my invisalign treatment two years ago and couldn't be happier. The treatment plan was clear, the doctor direct but respectful. It took 15 months as planned and results exceeded expectations. The office was decorated very nicely for Christmas..... too nice. There were several electronic games for kids and massage chairs too. It made me wonder, "who pays for all this stuff?" The customers? Dr. Marcel and his team are the best! The entire Marcel team is customer service oriented and always go above and beyond to make sure I am taken care of. Everyday, staff takes the proper COVID precautions for every patient, which makes me feel super safe. On multiple occasions, the staff has made last minute accommodations to have me come in to make sure my braces are as comfortable as possible. I have a unique case medically, but you wouldn't be able to tell with how smooth everything is going. I am in the process of bilateral TMJ Joint Replacement surgery, which braces is required for. Marcel Orthodontics is making the whole braces process so easy. Dr. Marcel is in constant communication with my Maxillofacial Surgeon and my Facial Pain Specialist, so all my specialists are always on the same page. They even make comments on how lucky I am to have him as my Doctor; I agree. I am 33 years old and can attest caring for braces as an adult is just as difficult as when I was a kid. The assistants and Dr. Marcel always make sure I have the information and tools I need for success until my next appointment. If I still have a question, Dr. Marcel and staff will quickly respond to my emails, even if sent during goofy hours. As a fellow medical worker, I greatly appreciate all the little and big efforts the Livermore staff does to make sure my patient experience is amazing! I have gone to Dr. Marcels for about almost a year now I think and they have been nothing but the best orthodontist place I have every gone too! (Considering that I have never actually been to another orthodontist besides marcel). I love Marcel and team because I am getting braces soon and they are done by them and it is just nice to know that I am having my braces put on by someone I trust. Before getting braces, when we were talking to them about how they would be put on and stuff if I did eventually get them, Dr. Marcel, which I thought was very generous of him to do this, asked me right to my face very genuine and would do whatever I want asked me and said, This is your choice would you prefer invisalign over braces or visa versa and I thought that was nice of him to ask me what I wanted before making the decision and saying ok we are putting braces on you or ok we are putting invisalign on you. I felt a sense of comfort because I thought that it was very nice and genuine of him to ask what I wanted before making a Final decision! I found him personable when we spoke during the consultation and I also liked the people who worked at the front desk. But I stopped liking him when I actually became a patient because I found him to be inflexible with the treatment plan, rather insensitive, and defensive when his patient (me) asked questions. Background: I had braces already once when I was in middle school, but due to an accident wherein I smashed my upper jaw (yea, that was kinda painful), I felt that I needed to fix up my teeth/bite again. I repeatedly told Dr. Marcel and his staff that I didn't mind having a long treatment period because my teeth were already traumatised and I did not want them moved fast for fear the roots will die (FYI, take a look at the contract you sign when you agree to ortho treatment and you'll see that roots being absorbed by the bone and losing your teeth are some of the possible side effects). Well, they pretty much ignored my request. I went to my dentist shortly after the braces were put in for a cleaning and also because I really felt like I needed to consult with someone who has a sympathetic ear and is in a vested (albeit business) relationship with me for the long haul. Dr. Marcel had started me out with rather thick archwires, which may have been ok for someone who's never gotten her front teeth smashed in, but not so ok for me. And my dentist was shocked also when she saw what they gave me as my first set of wires. I felt like I was a "special case" due to my existing dental issues (and I'm not his target demographic, let's just say) and he just didn't care. Anyway, I actually stopped treatment early because I would rather live with imperfect/slightly crooked teeth than risk having my roots die by being moved so fast and furious. And then came the retainers.... Don't get me started on the retainers. I had a Hawley retainer for my lower and a clear plastic one for the top (according to wikipedia they're called Essix). The Hawley was never fitted properly, it would rock from side to side in my mouth between the teeth, but the lady who fitted me said that was ok, and Dr. Marcel seconded that. Like I said, I had braces once when I was in middle school, ergo I've worn retainers, too, and the ones I got from Dr. Marcel's office were just lame. But they sent me out the door anyway, and I didn't argue because I really didn't want to deal with them again. This would be one star if not for the really friendly front desk staff who were always there with a smile. read more

When you are a kid in braces this office is very helpful because you are paying them large sums of money. On the other hand, once you've become a less frequent patient, they are NOT helpful. And more importantly they do not stand behind their work, but rather try to milk you for all your worth. I had my retainer fixed there and it cost me $50 which is a reasonable amount of money. 1 week later, it broke again in the same place and they are charging me another $50. I went to Dr. Marcel as an adult to fix a couple of alignment issues. The staff is AMAZING. They are kind, caring and very fun. I was not very good at scheduling the various appointments in a timely way. When I got pregnant, it made me so nauseous to ware my invisaligns. When I went back 4 months later, Marcel didn't charge me anything extra to prolong the treatment. They had to reorder some invisaligns because I had gotten off track. I paid only their cost for the new pieces. Honestly, I'm so surprised at these negative reviews. I'm a Mom and those in my network go to Marcel and all really like going there. I love Dr. Marcel and his staff. The massage chairs are great when I need to wait for my kids to finish up with their appts. My daughter will be getting her braces off soon and they have been great when needing to schedule/reschedule appts to get the wires off for cleanings, etc. My youngest daughter needs braces as well and had a few crowding teeth, so we had a consultation with Dr. Marcel and his staff. He recommended that we pull two teeth and get my daughter some retainers while the adult teeth grew in. His recommendation was the same as my children's regular dentist. The staff is very helpful and informative. Plus, they have a great points system that my kids can earn prizes for. The office is kid-friendly and up to date with the latest gadgets. read more
