I've been to his office about 3 times and each time I want to get started on the treatment but something comes up and I postpone for months or even years! =\! Each time I've come in for a consult he has been professional, nice, and offered to be there whenever I decided to start treatment. This review is for Dr. Claire Marcel and her lovely staff at the Tracy office. I am so happy that I found such a kind and caring orthodontic office to help me journey through the ' omg I'm an adult with braces' odyssey....took me a long time to make the decision to finally just do it and Dr. Claire and Lorena and Angie have been so patient and kind at every appointment. Even though I dread every appointment( dental appt. anxiety anyone?) I also look forward to going and visiting these nice ladies and they always make what isn't always a pleasant hour sort of fun! Very gentle, very accommodating, and I think I'm actually getting these things off early so thats a huge bonus. I was not real impressed with this orthodontist. His office reminds me of an industrial assembly line. He spends minimal time with the patients whereas his staff does most of the work. I had to point out to him that my daughter's braces were not ready to be removed as he suggested since the upper and lower teeth were not aligned. There has to be better out there. read more

If I was able to give him 0 stars, I would. There is a reason that out of all the people that have reviewed Dr. Marcel, that only one is positive - and that may be because she has postponed having her actual work done and is not yet a patient. People who read this...please take heed of the reasons....and go to another orthodontist! I agree, and have experienced all of the issues the other folks have stated. I went to Dr. Marcel because he came highly recommended. I was impressed with his staff, the welcoming nature of his office and the professionalism. That changed very soon after I became a patient and started having issues with my teeth. I went to Dr. Marcel, because I had an issue with one bottom tooth hitting the top tooth. I had beautiful, straight top teeth. During my treatment, I would go in to every appointment and tell the staff and Dr that my bite was off and I had multiple teeth hitting...this continued for 9 months and they all reassured me it would get better through treatment. After 9 months, and still issues with my bite and teeth hitting, they removed my braces...I was in tears. Now, did I not only have the same issue with the one tooth hitting, but now I had multiple teeth hitting and a screwed up bite. Dr Marcel assured me that my teeth would settle, to give it time, and that if he had to he would put the braces back on. Dr. Marcel wanted to wait a few months, which turned into more like six for my teeth to settle. Every time that I went in, I still had the same issue. I had told him that now instead of one tooth hitting I now had five teeth hitting and that my back bite had a gap. His rude and abrupt response was "Well, what are they hitting or is there a gap, because you keep telling me both". Well, I was astounded by the way he spoke to me, and left to give yet more time for my teeth to "Settle". His next solution was to put braces on my top teeth and push them out and then have my dentist bond the gaps. Mind you, I had BEAUTIFUL top teeth, no issues and my only reason for coming in in the first place was one bottom tooth hit. I said to him I did not want to do that and that it would mean a lifetime of upkeep with the bonding not to mention the expense. He said fine...still no resolutions after a year of having my braces off. With his suggestion of getting braces on top and then bonding I went for a second opinion. This orthodontist strongly suggested I didn't do what Dr. Marcel recommended and that the issues I were facing could be settled with a simple retainer with springs.....back to Dr Marcel I went and told him I had a second opinion and what that orthodontist said...his response to me was "Well, more power to him if he thinks he can fix them" and then walked away from me - very unprofessional. Because I would not go along with that solution, I was off for more time to settle. Now, after nearly two years of my braces off and no resolution to my problem, Dr Marcel suggested he make a positioner for my teeth, that this would move my teeth enough to give room. I said to him "this won't change my top teeth will it because I don't want them to change - he said no they wouldn't. After I agreed to this procedure (after running it by my second opinion orthodontist who recommended that I just reiterate with Dr. Marcel I didn't want my top teeth changed) I agreed to this procedure....Dr Marcel says okay...."We need to make this fair to both of us, and then asked me to pay for my retainers to be remade". I said to him. "You are kidding me, I already paid once for my teeth to be fixed and I still haven't got what I paid for" His response, was "Fine, if you feel strongly about this, then I will just eat it" and again, he walked away from me. Oh My Gosh, I have NEVER met such a rude, egotistical, unprofessional person in my life. I did the positioner thing, but much to my horror, it changed my upper teeth. My beautiful upper teeth that I have always received numerous compliments on were changed! Not only that, I STILL had the same flipping problem - no resolution - just now instead of just my bottom teeth being ruined, he ruined my top teeth. His next solution was to grind the top of my bottom tooth to try to alleviate the hitting of my teeth...I did not agree to this because he had already ground a number of my teeth which had never helped in the past. When I complained about how my teeth ended up, he told me "Sorry, this is the best it is going to get". And after all of this I ended up with TMJ which I never had before! At this point, I had lost all confidence that Dr. Marcel even had the ability to fix my teeth, so I went to my second opinion orthodontist, who has since been working on both my son and my teeth to fix the damage Dr. Marcel caused. Whatever you do....stay away from this orthodontist! read more

Dr. Marcel and his staff deserve way more than 5 stars! My son has been going to Dr. Marcel for the last 2 years and I have been overwhelmed with the professionalism of the staff and how the practice is run. This is the reason I felt inspired to write a review. The Marketing Coordinator, Christine, has done a phenomenal job with her team to ensure that your entire experience at the practice is 100% satisfactory. I have worked in corporate sales for many years and know how much work goes into running a business and making sure your customers are happy with your service. Following are my observations, experience and key points: 1 -- You walk in and sign in right away into their user friendly system that allows your child to feel independent and confident - an extra perk! Janet sitting behind the desk is there to greet you with a warm smile and is there to answer any questions you have. Everyone has a no problem attitude! 2 -- After waiting for a short amount of time in the very lively waiting room filled with entertainment and reading materials, you get called to see Dr. Marcel or a staff member. 3 -- Dr. Marcel is consistently friendly and lively, making his patients feel at ease. He is a master of his craft and has always recommended treatments for my son with a positive outcome. My son now has his first phase of braces off and is wearing a retainer. In addition, the other staff members that my son has had appointments with have been knowledgable, friendly, engaging and encouraging. 4 -- I just went in for a braces consultation for my daughter who is in 2nd grade. Dr. Marcel took plenty of time with her to go over his feedback on her teeth and made it fun and comfortable. He recommended that we not move forward with braces at this time as the mild crowding in her teeth is not of concern, and that braces when she is in 5th or 6th grade will be the time to move forward. This experience, in addition to many others, shows me that Dr. Marcel is committed to the health of his patients teeth and keeps that as his number one priority. 5 -- As far as price, I believe that the amount they charge is reasonable and completely worth every penny. 6 -- Lastly, another observation I have made is that the staff at the office have all been there for many years. I don't know where to begin with this orthodontist. Let me start by saying that the staff is professional. It is this orthodontist who seemed decent and professional enough in the beginning but turned out to be the opposite. He was recommended by our family dentist. Our daughter had an appointment for a check-up. After having examined her, he addressed me by gesturing with his index finger (as when a child is called upon when reprimanded) so rudely. I don't know about you, but in any culture or any part of the world, it is considered extremely impolite. In addition, he spoke with such condescendence. I'm quite certain that he would not try this despicable behavior on a man. How revolting! Though furious, I chose not to say something to him, as my daughter was in the room. I didn't want to make her feel uneasy. He just lost our business. She definitely will not be getting her braces there. I regret having our other child as his patient. read more

Dr. Marcel and his staff are the best. My daughter is in between her two phases of braces and comes in for periodic check ups. Everyone is very nice and gentle with her and have been since the beginning. She was only 8 years old when the pallet expander was put in. She has never had a bad experience and almost enjoys going to the orthodontist. I don't mind the fresh baked cookies either, as well as the video games to entertain her little brother. My daughter just got her braces off and I just had to post how extremely happy I have been with Dr. Marcel as our orthodontist. My son went to him, too, and everything went just as promised. We never have to wait in his office, there is entertainment for kids (if you happen to have others in the waiting room), staff is extremely personable, and I got exactly what I signed up for. I like that I'm charged one fee and all appointments are included for the braces (both daughter and son had them). I'm surprised by some of the comments, below, but my advice is that different orthodontists may have different plans and everyone is free to chose who they want to do business with. I wanted to get in and get out and have my kids end up with straight teeth. I chose an orthodontist that had enough experience and I believe that he knows more about teeth than I do and more than someone who doesn't specialize. I paid him for his expertise and I would not have gone to someone who I felt I had to second guess. Unfortunately, the majority of people who post do so when they are mad, but you only hear one side. Can you imagine telling a doctor how you would like him to operate on you? Would you want a doctor who took your advice, forgoing his education and experience? You will wear your teeth every day, hopefully for the rest of your life. My goal was not to shop around for the cheapest, most accommodating orthodontist. I wanted efficient and goal oriented.
