They told us they were booked until 2p but offered to seat us at the remaining 2 counter seats (restaurant is tiny - probably only 10 tables and 4 counter seats). Marcel is a really delicious little restaurant that thankfully I learned about before my trip to Paris, so I got to enjoy it when in Paris. It is impossibly small and tables are way too close to each other, but I guess in a way it gives it a bit more French atmosphere and ambience. When I came, I had ordered the Avocado Toast which then came with cream cheese, oranges and noisettes de Cervione. I had to try this because I never thought that oranges would go with avocado toast and cream cheese, but let me tell you how incredible it was. It's such a busy little spot and everyone looked happy and like they were enjoying the food and the service was quick and friendly. The premises are that small, that behind the counter, there's a hideaway dumb waiter that gets a lot of the food brought down from upstairs to the restaurant itself. It's just so cute that I cannot wait to visit Paris again so I can come back here and try things off their current menu. It's a little off the beaten path, so I don't feel there were heaps of tourists here, but that's a good thing to me, and I can't wait to come back. I highly recommend it here. read more

Let me begin by saying that I already want to go back to eat here because my Pain Perdu (French toast for my fellow Americans) was off the wall delicious. It's not a stunner when you photograph it, but it tastes unlike other pain perdu I have had in Paris! When I ate here it was not crowded at all, but I arrived right when it opened in the middle of the week. The servers were extremely nice and they encouraged my American friend to practice his French while ordering and I found their patience to be extremely kind and refreshing. French servers are notorious for being rude, but they're very nice at Marcel! I really enjoyed the minimalist decor, the location in a quiet street in the 7th arrondissement, and the lack of fuss of making the food look perfect. The only reason I give it 4 stars and not 5 is because the price is a bit high; my pain perdu by itself was 13 euros. Then again, eating in the 7th is bound to make a dent in your wallet. Went here for date night the other night. All in all an agreeable experience. It was a Tuesday so the restaurant wasn't very busy and we had perfectly attentive service-- waiters were appropriately distant but available as needed. The decor is modern, simple and clean with dim lighting and lots of mirrors. NB: mirrors line the banquet so diners sitting on chairs may have a tendency to stare at themselves for the entire meal. I was a bit disappointed to see only beer and wine on the menu since I was hoping to get the evening started with a cocktail. I was not, however, disappointed with the overly generous glass of wine I was served. There portions are far from the usual 12.5 cl of most places. I ordered the tuna which was just OK. It was fresh and cooked perfectly but the satay sauce was lacking seriously in the flavor and texture department. My boyfriend had the pulled pork burger which I wasn't lucky enough to get a bite of but it sure looked great. As an American with a fondness for pulled pork, I'd like to say that I have an eye for a good sandwich. It was served à la française, however, meaning there was way too much bun in the bun/meat ratio. I couldn't not get dessert and I decided to tempt their carrot cake. I was very pleased to find an American portion of carrot cake place in front of me, with an American portion of icing, hallelujah!! Flavor was pretty good but I was so full at this point I was hardly thinking straight. Drawn in by the menu and complete disregard for the Yelp rating, this American styled restaurant delivers quality product with a cozy atmosphere. I visited during the lunch hour and as expected the place was completely full. Waiting around 10 minutes for a table wasn't bad but there really is no place to wait and you're forced to lean against a pole and dodge the busy waitstaff. Once seated the menus were delivered promptly and here's where the fun begins. They really have a well rounded menu ranging from creative salads to club sandwiches and pulled pork burgers all the way to french toast. For me though I really wanted to try the Hot Dog Deluxe (with all the trimmings including jalepenos!). Food was ordered and delivered rather promptly, almost too promptly. For the presentation, the Hot Dog was beautiful. The restaurant uses a saucisse morteau, homemade brioche bun, homemade crispy onions, fresh jalepeno peppers and an american styled mustard with a bed of caramelized onions under the sausage. Food tasted very fresh and if I was to pick something to improve upon would be the sausage. Expectations when ordering a "Hot Dog" is that you get a German styled frankfurter and not a saucisse morteau/equivalent. The problem with the morteau is that the tensil strength of the casing requires more bite strength than is expected and in my opinion takes away from that hot dog experience. I'd liken it to putting a steak between white toasted bread, technically it would feed you but it's not quite how you'd expect to eat it. Another option would be to go with a crustier bread which matches the resistance of the sausage or maybe rename it to Hot Sausage Deluxe...baaaaah, anyway, I'm rambling! Ok, so I didn't take the dessert as I was full after eating the Hot Sausage Deluxe, but from what I saw from other tables it looked rather good. All in all a nice place, nothing exceptional but rather just a good place selling good food. I'll go back, likely for the Ruben bagel, sounds good right? read more

In the 38 years we have been coming to Paris and enjoying it a great deal, we have never come across a restaurant we could truly call - The "Worst Restaurant in Paris" and so much more. Even the restaurants we thought might have been bad in the past, none of them served a Sweet French Onion Soup. How on earth did this restaurant accomplish such horror. Indeed onions on their own have a sweetness to them but this soup we were served at 9.00 Euros per bowel was absolutely horrible. That was not all they served that was tasteless. We ordered a Cob salad and a pulled pork dish. The Cob salad 16.00 Euros had chicken that was horribly dried and it was like eating beef jerky. The pulled pork dish at 19.00 Euros did not state that is was barbecued pork - I made certain I did not ordered that dish that was in the menu. So I thought I would get a nice amount of pulled pork in my dish. Instead I got a glob of BBQ pulled pork with a gross amount of BBQ sauce. Even their wine selection was bad. I think the philosophy of this place is: If it does not contain a horrible amount of sugar or if we are not able to add lots of sugar to our dishes, it will not be served. I came here alone last summer, and its beet salad was not impressive but decent enough with fresh veggies for a healthy meal. Today I went there with my hubby and newborn baby to enjoy our first meal in Paris, and omg the salad was one of the worst I've had this year. The greek salad was not greek at all. It wasn't balance at all- there were tomatoes, cucumber, sparing amount of red onion, not-so-fresh kalamata olives, and too much feta cheese. The salad was so easy-to-make recipe, but they failed making it. My hubby's club sandwich was just okay, but both of our coffees were cold and bland. Hamburger on the next seat seemed okay though. A real joke! I took the falafel salad, 17€, which was alright. Granted the 3 falafel balls on it were very tasty. But the rest of the salad was just ok. And it was just small. The fun thing is I heard the waitress tell other customers "oh yeah at least with this one you won't be hungry in one hour"...haha! Well, I have to say I'm hungry now. Even having ordered an extra fries and ate a refill of bread. I'm not a huge eater usually. So to summary, not bad food for itself, but just the price is completely not justified, for the quality and the size. You can eat a lot better food for 17€ in nice neighborhoods of Paris. The staff was ok, there was one guy, really nice and attentive to us despite being there at the rush hour, and one unpleasant lady behind the counter: barely polite, weirdly familiar with some customers, and treating others with total disdain.
