Good, not great (and it HAS been great on some previous occasions). Excellent selection of wines that you can go pick out yourself or seek guidance from your server. Great vibe, lots of happy people. Sam was our server and he was terrific: gave us attention when we needed it and left us alone when we did not. He knew my wife's dietary limitations and how to accommodate them. We began with a Caprese salad, which was good, but would have been great if they had used some really flavorful summer tomatoes instead of the mediocre standard grocery store variety. I had the special, which was tilefish, and it was delicious, particularly when topped with mounds of fresh lump crabmeat. Another in our party had the Chicken Molli, which she said was perfect. My wife, however, had the Veal Piccata over GF pasta; unfortunately, the veal was overcooked and as a result, quite dry. Very good espressos and cappucinos to conclude the meal. Frequently when we are in Lafayette Marcello's will be the best meal of the visit; on this trip, though it was good for the most part, it was #3 of 3 meals in town. read more

I hate giving bad reviews but I hate bring nickeled and dimed even more. Keep in mind that a pound of pasta costs about 99 cents retail. $18 for spaghetti and meatballs. The marina was delicious. The meatballs were excellent. For that matter I am generally hard to please when it comes to Caesar salad. Theirs is very good. I ordered linguine not spaghetti. The later is what I got. No big deal! However I ran out of spaghetti before I finished the meatballs. No bread was given so I asked for a little more pasta. They gave me a very small bowl of watery pasta and I got through the rest of the meal. When the bill came I was charged $5 extra. That will be the last five dollars they get from me. I would have loved to have been a return customer for the two weeks I am in town. For that matter I will give my business to a different liquor store too since they own both business and cross advertise. Pasta is the cheapest part of the meal. To serve 30 cents if pasta is not too much to ask for out of an $18.00 bill. I don't like being told that I don't know the difference between spaghetti and linguine by someone half my age either. read more

Was really disappointed that at the end of a lovely meal, I was served a 4% "non-cash" upcharge for the use of a credit card. In this day and age when many establishments will only accept "non-cash" payments, you charge for using a credit card? This should be posted on your social media and mentioned when making a reservation or ordering. I realize that CC have charges; this is generally viewed as the price of doing business. When traveling for business, as I was, a credit card is the necessary form of payment. I hope that you reconsider your policy, or at least adopt a more transparent means of dispensing it. read more

The place used to offer first rate food and service. I appreciate they were busy tonight 5/21/2021 but sat at the bar and were basically ignored for 2.5 hours. It took multiple attempts to get attention of bar person to place an order and make a request. Three requests to get the check. If literally didn't say 20 words to us. Southern Hospitality should be ashamed and Marcello should be ashamed to have his name associated with this poor service. Arrived and was so excited about the nice ambiance of the restaurant and figured I was going to have a nice little evening! Little did I know that that excitement would be so short lived. I arrived and asked to be seated for "1"......ONE! I was told there were no tables available but the bar should be free for ONE spot soon! So I wait exactly 16 minutes and then a Caucasian couple walks in, walks right pass me, tell the hostess that they're only having cocktails and basically seat themselves. Went to the car, with a very light, very light bag. Strange? Got to hotel, super small salad but delish. Lasagne was very yummy again a modest portion. Add bread and cutlery please next time! One of the few Italian places I eat at in Lafayette. I have had mixed experiences at this place. Generally they have been pleasant, with the food coming out in good time and being tasty. However I have had a couple of occasions where the food has not been up to standard and had to be returned. They do offer a good selection of wines and the waitstaff are generally friendly. Unfortunately for its price you would expect a bit more constancy from their kitchen, as such we tend to visit this place on the rare occasion when we do feel like Italian. My favourite is the lasagna although they do have a good selection on the menu. The atmosphere is a bit more sophisticated then Olive Garden and good for an intimate meal. However be warned that although the wine may impress, the food could well disappoint depending on how the kitchen is feeling that night! read more

No explanation or apology for the delay in service when our server finally arrived, although, whenever the server came by, she was pleasant enough. The pasta dishes were quite good. The concept with the wine is nice (pay $10 over what the label reads to drink at the table), if only it didn't take 15 minutes for someone to arrive and open your wine after you're seated. What a great restaurant! It "feels" good from the moment you step in and drink in an ambience that is reminiscent of a big city neighborhood restaurant. The air is rich with fragrances of garlic and herbs. The place buzzes with conversation. The waitstaff is attentive. The wine selections superior to any in town (buy at retail and pay a modest corkage and you are 60% below what you would pay in other restaurants) The menu selection is abundant and will satisfy anyone's craving. Among our favorites are: calamari, fried mozzarella, grilled artichoke, veal Molli, shrimp papete, lamb ragu, grilled duck breast - not a bad dish on the menu. Holy oil! Eaten here for lunch twice now and gotten the same thing, Shrimp Pepate. While it's quite tasty, make sure you don't have to makeout with anyone or hold a conversation with anyone for about a week afterwards. There is SO much garlic, which I love, but could be overwhelming for some. Should zombies and vampires take over, hide out with some Shrimp Pepate and you're golden. This is a wonderful restaurant. Our waitress tonight was Meredith. Six of us, my wife & I, our son and daughter, D-I-L and S-I-L were all absolutely pleased. My daughter and I had the "special" tonight, scallops and pork drizzled with syrup. We high-fived each other during dinner; it was exquisite, delicious. My son had the other special, red grouper I believe, and loved it. The crab and shrimp appetizers were perfect as was the mozzarella appetizer. We all shared everything six ways and it was just right to all have a few tastes. Reservations: We reserved for 6 p.m. and arrived at 5:57--we were immediately shown to our table. Service: Perfect. My #1 restaurant pet peeve is having the entrees delivered too quickly, or too late, after appetizers and introductory drinks are served. The timing was spot on, the mark of a server who's paying attention. Meredith orchestrated all that seamlessly AND unobtrusively. Drinks: Decoy Pinot Noir bottles x2. I would have preferred the Duckhead but it was pricey and the Decoy is d--n good. Otherwise, the non-wine drinkers were quite happy with a variety of beers, Moscato, and an Old Fashioned. Soup and Salad: Everyone had a variety of salads except me. I opted for the Red Lentil + soup and it was awesome. I teased the rest of the table for ordering salads (although they were all happy with their salads. ) Desserts: We had a variety consisting of Tiramisu, Limoncello, and I had the chocolate "cake." They were all delicious. While my chocolate cake was perfect, I did have a bite of my wife's Limoncello and wished I had ordered it. Next time. Service through the meal: Perfect. Water glasses stayed filled and we were consistently looked after without being interrupted or interrogated--which I hate. The bill: ~~$600+ but I left an extremely generous tip in excess of 20% and was quite happy to do it. I take the six of us out every so often when I can justify it, and Marcellos is the place I choose to do that. Atmosphere: Great. Not too noisy even though every table filled up shortly after we arrived. No glaring lights. Not too dark either. The bar is "right there" -- completely open to the dining areas but in no way intrusive. The bottle racks of wines contribute greatly to a sense of place. Last but not least: I ordered a cup of black coffee and it too was perfect. Great food. Great service. Great atmosphere. None of us had drinks with dessert. Make a reservation. Over the years, this has become me and my husband's favorite restaurant in town. Whether for special occasions or a regular date night, when asked where I want to go eat, the answer is always "Marcello's"! Pro Tip: Make reservations, especially for a party larger than four people. This place is small and well-loved, so they always have a long wait Thursday through Saturday nights. But, the size of the restaurant adds to the intimate atmosphere and is one of the reasons we love the place so much. Being a wine market, Marcello's has several quality wines on the menu, and the waitstaff is pretty knowledgeable about the selection. They can also help you pick out the perfect bottle off the racks. There is a $10 corkage fee for non-menu wines, but the price per glass will still average out to what you would pay at other restaurants. The service is always prompt, friendly, and available throughout the meal. The management must do a really good job training the waitstaff. Complimentary bread is available by request only because they put it in the oven per order. ORDER IT. It's toasted with garlic butter and so yummy! The menu changes a little seasonally, but there are some staples which never go away and are absolutely fabulous. These include Linguine Tritone, Lamb Ragu, Molli, and Marsala. (Seriously, I have dreams about their marsala sauce. I like to get it over veal.) Also, anything in the "Gene's Family Recipes" section, which are traditional dishes, is a can't miss. Both my mom and husband love to get Fettuccine Alfredo with FRIED chicken on top. (Ask for it to be fried. It's not on the menu that way. You won't regret it.) Dessert? DO IT! This is one of my favorite restaurants in Lafayette and though ive moved away, it's first on my list every time I'm in town. The chicken Molly is so, so good. This time, however, I got it to go on the way to my hotel outside Lafayette. There was no pasta under the chicken, so also no sauce (the amazing best part!!!!!), and the chicken was so pale, it had almost no flavor. I called back to say that it was just chicken, and was told to come back and they'd give me some pasta. When I said I wasn't driving back 30 minutes in pouring rain, the lady on the phone took down my name and number and said the manager would "take care of it." No call, no refund of my $20 sad dinner two weeks later. I want my $5 tip back too - - you had one dish to prepare to go and you didn't notice it was just plain naked cbicken? I hope this place isn't under new mgmt and this was a one-time blunder. read more

I really need to eat here more often. I have never, ever had anything here that has been short of divine. I got spaghetti & meatballs, which is not something I would normally order...ever...anywhere. But I had an envie and, oh my heavens, did Marcello's deliver. Perfectly cooked pasta, a sauce with lots of zip, and the meatballs! Oh, the meatballs! Moist without being mushy and spiced just right. I'm not a meatball aficionado by any stretch, but I know I could eat those every day. Desserts were equally wonderful. Tiramisu was soooo delicious, but I love the caramel pudding with almonds and amaretto whipped cream (it has a much famcier name, but I can never remember it).And shout out to Lindsey, our server, for fantastic wine pairings and exemplary service. not impressed at all... They have a pretty good wine list, but no Stemware!! They have those stemless wine glasses which I hate so much!!... The waitress was probably having a pretty crappy day, but all our pasta orders came out wrong... She attempted to impress us with her memory skills except that she got every single type of noodle wrong. After about 20 mins of ordering, and a couple of drinks, she came back out and let us know that one of the dishes we had ordered was no longer available... That's a long time just to realize your kitchen is no longer serving a dish!! Over all the food is not bad, definitely didn't impress me, but I'll give it another try since I had eaten there before and overall is not bad. Today I visited Marcello's Wine Market because I heard that their wine selection was good. I have to say that the wine was good, but it was the service from Caleb that I really enjoyed. He was so polite and attentive. I am traveling for business and dining alone so it was nice to have a friendly face. I had the chicken parm which was good. The wedding soup was excellent. My only regret is that I didn't order a bowl instead of a cup. My favorite by far was the Anna Tutta Panna which was a caramel pudding with homemade whipped cream and almond chips. Yummy. Everything about this place is incredible. The wine is sold at market price, which means that if you pick out a $50 bottle of wine, you pay $50 for it. Not $12 a glass. The food is the best in town and the portions are perfect. The last time I was there, I had lightly fried eggplant as an appetizer. The eggplant was very lightly breaded and very light on the palate. The main course was veal, which was cooked with large chunks of garlic and sat on top of capers and pasta. Very flavorful and again, very light. Dessert was a cannoli filled with cream and topped with chocolate. The flavor was neither too sweet nor overbearing, and complimented the meal wonderfully. I can't recommend this place enough to the locals. It's absolutely delicious and relatively inexpensive depending on your choice of wine. read more

I am not impressed at all. At first the building looks welcoming, with a bar and outside patio. Though seems a little contrived, similar to the faux Italian like Carrabbas. The wine list seemed alright (though I am far from a wine enthusiast), a crap beer list, and the cocktails are bad. The Old Fashion was just artificial syrup and Bourbon, and was just poorly made. The food seemed pretty sub standard. Pasta did not taste homemade, and the sauce seemed like watery store bought Ragu. I think this place should be a lot better. I nice shiny package, but no substance IMO. read more
