Alesi Pizza House has been a favorite of mine and my family for years. In my opinion, they serve some of the absolute best pizza in Lafayette. Every time someone asks where we want to eat, Alesi is always at the top of the list. I'll admit, I usually order the pizza because it's just that good, but the few times I've ventured into other items on the menu, I've never been disappointed. Everything is fresh, flavorful, and made with care. It's truly sad to hear they're selling the business. Alesi isn't just another pizza place--it's a Lafayette staple and a place that has created so many great memories for families like mine. I sincerely hope the new owners preserve what has made this restaurant so special. If you've never been, do yourself a favor and go while you can. You won't regret it. read more

I frequented Alesi's in the early 70s when I was going to school at USL. It was always a top notch experience because the family really cared about what they served. So, when we finally returned to Lafayette I couldn't wait for my family to experience the most authentic Italian restaurant in the city. The decor had not changed one bit, so I had hope that nothing else did. Alas, it did. We had pasta and pizza, and neither was anywhere near what used to be served here. The spaghetti and sauce looked like it had been sitting under a heat lamp long enough to dry it out, and the pizza was so underwhelming that my son considered having me evaluated for speaking of this place so highly. I've come to learn that the third generation is in charge now, but it's apparent no one cares in the kitchen. To rely on the name alone will not change the fact the sub par food is being served. I will consider that it may have been an off night. It happens. But in Lafayette an off night will cost you a customer who will never return. Competing with Imoelli's, Marcello's, and now Saricca's and Cugino, you're going to need to step it up. Pizza Artista has some of the best pies in town, and it puts to shame what came out of Alesi's kitchen. I wish someone could save this institution. The food is always spectacular. True Italian. The service, impeccable. Dakota was attentive without being pushy or overbearing. The ambience is calming from the lighting to the plants and everything else, truly a calming atmosphere to have a meal. And as a plus, when you see an owner coming from the kitchen to speak to patrons, it surely makes you feel so welcomed. In the heart of Lafayette, this wonderful restaurant should be a stop for everyone who travels down Johnston Street. This is for the restaurant as it sits today. We had visited years ago and decided to come back to what should be a Lafayette staple. Nothing inside had really changed but the food and service were not what they used to be. The pizza came out burnt when no one else was in the restaurant. The veal reminded me of a retirement home cafeteria. Until someone else comes in and takes over and restores the restaurant this is a hard pass. read more

For a place that advertises ravioli on their sign, I would have expected something other than washed and rinsed chef boyardee ravioli. I legit believe that is all they do. 2-2.5 stars... The garlic bread and meatballs were good, and the sauce is pretty delicious.. that's the only saving grace for my meal. read more

We went in and were promptly greeted. Very friendly. I was excited about the menu. The ambiance was very cozy and warm. The waitress was very friendly but two of our things came out wrong. One was the salad dressing, and I didn't want to say anything as the Italian dressing brought out instead was a creamy one and turned out to be very good. The other item was the topping was incorrect for our pasta but the meatballs happened to be wonderful. The problems started after our dinner was brought out. The waitress never returned and we were waiting and waiting. I saw her come out again and waved feverishly to get her attention and we said we need take out containers and the check. We tried to get help from another waiter and he looked the other way and ignored us. Here's where things get tricky. I had ordered the seafood manicotti. I thought that it tasted great. I was the only one that ordered it at our table and was the only one that got sick. I rarely post anything negative on here but I don't enjoy getting sick. So I will not be returning to this restaurant. There are plenty of other options to eat at in Lafayette. read more

Don't go to this restaurant. It smells like their sewage system may not be working. The interior of the restaurant has not been updated or thoroughly cleaned in decades. Food grease is spattered all over the walls/decor. We were served days old mushy pasta with "alfredo sauce" that had literally separated. The grease was pooling on top of the "sauce". I ate two bites & could not stomach it. Also the only flavor detectable in the sauce, besides oil was artificial garlic. Literally the worst pasta I have ever seen, much less been served at a restaurant. The pizza was also deplorable. The crust is clearly pre-made & frozen. It tasted like cardboard. Mozzarella cheese is not used, it's a strange mix of other indiscernible cheeses. The sausage was somehow burnt as well. It's abundantly clear that the staff of this restaurant do not remotely care about the quality of food they are serving patrons. If you want pizza, go to dominos instead. read more

Came here the other day for the first time. Got the 10'' lunch pizza. It came out quick and was tasty. I asked the server for recommendations on the menu and he said ''everything was good''. Well the pizza WAS good, haha...but as someone who's worked in the industry (for years) I always like to ask the servers what they like...he had multiple tables though and didn't miss a beat. I've eaten here infrequently for decades. Meals were usually disappointing, often badly so. Last evening I attended a meeting here, ordered linguini with shrimp & mushrooms in Alfredo sauce. Good surprise, it was excellent; pasta perfectly al dente, shrimp fresh, nicely seasoned, good cheeses blend in sauce. Best meal I've ever had at Alesi's. Easy parking in private lot, no charge. Older building & furnishings, somewhat "dumpy". Eager waitstaff all seem to have difficulty communicating verbally. We've tried several different languages, to no avail. Prices fair & moderate. I got 2 pepperoni pizzas and the cheese sticks with meat sauce. Both pizzas were soooo greasy and looked like nothing special. I had high hopes, but it was not at all what I expected. There was barely any sauce and didn't taste any different from a pizza you can get literally anywhere else. Another thing, the service was absolutely horrendous. The front staff have NOOO manners or respect. I had been one other time and got the manicotti (which 4 manicotti for $20 is RIDICULOUS) and they were so rude that time as well almost a year ago. I love pizza so I had to try one of the oldest pizza places in Lafayette. Upon entering the establishment, it appears to look like a mom and pop joint which I Love. The atmosphere is pretty warm and inviting. We decided to order 1 pizza (the alesi special) along with some of the other items. Appetizer sampler, spaghetti, and manicotti. The pizza was good, but nothing to write home about. The appetizers were a bit heavy since they were all deep fried (my mistake because I ordered too much). The spaghetti was actually pretty good although the appearance would make you think otherwise. And the manicotti was above average. read more

We came here for a late lunch. I really wanted to like it. The waiter was so nice, the atmosphere was cute and quaint. But definitely stick to their pizza. The salad was horrible. The ranch dressing was sparse and more like a dip. Tasted awful! The alfredo, well just don't. Seriously flavorless! I added salt and parm cheese, some pepper and that didn't even help. For an italian dish, there was ZERO garlic The chicken tasted and looked like frozen, then reheated. The spaghetti was great as was the pizza. If we go back I'll stick to that. read more

Wish I could do No Stars. Quite possibly the worst Pizza I have ever had. I got the "Large" which is a 12" Alesi Pizza - Add Sausage. I was shocked to find out that the pizza was 25 bucks. OK, well..... I ordered it. When I got to the car I opened the Pizza. The outer 1.5: was nothing but a tiny bit of sauce and a few pepperonis. The other ingredients were piled in the middle. It tasted AWFUL. The only real taste was the the Sausage. The bacon was the prepackaged fully cooked kind. On this it was rubbery. I could go On and On but my recommendation would be to stay Far, Far Away from Alesi Pizza. Hunt Brothers is WAY Better and Half the Price. I'll attach photos later. read more

I decided to go with the ole pineapple/ sausage pizza and bread sticks. - First bite was meh . I'm sure there's better pizza but the meat didn't have any flavor to it at all . Very dry . Ok. For those that read my reviews a lot you'll know that I'm a pizza nut job and it's one of my favorite foods on this planet. Having said that, I try a lot of different pizza places wherever I go and my home city of Lafeyette is no different. I've been to Alesi's a few times now and the last time was about a year ago and I was refreshed on why that was. The food here is decent and I haven't had a bad meal from memory. However, that said, there are at least 2 other pizza places in the area that blow the roof off this joint and for a lot less money. We had 2 appetizers, a 12" pizza and 2 soft drinks. It was $42 plus tip. For $50, there are a lot of other places to get more bang for the buck and better food. The cheese pizza was almost flavorless as were the cheese sticks. The sausage they provided does add some flavor but they were average. The service was also not that great. He was polite and the order was correct but he was so busy taking care of other tables that getting drinks refilled and even the check (10 minute+ wait) was a challenge. I also don't understand why they would serve a pizza and nothing to lift off the slices to each plate. Try picking up a hot gooey pizza slice with a fork or knife and see how that goes. I saw other tables struggling too so it must just be a thing. Overall, the meal was decent but just not worth the price. I may end up here again in a year, but it's not at the top of any list. You know... I'm actually a fan of the Olive Garden. Call me crazy... But I actually like the food there, it's consistent and yummy and you just can't get away from the soup salad and breadsticks... But many people refer to Olive Garden as the Kmart of Italian food... Well I'm here to tell you I found the new Kmart of Italian food. And it's Alesi Pizza House. So then Olive Garden has got to become the Target of Italian food. I had always been curious about this place since I moved to Lafayette, and would pass by hoping that it would be an amazing authentic old school Italian restaurant. And in many ways it is. The outside of the building is really kind of cool and feels like an old school restaurant, the inside is dark and leathery and full of latticework and cheesy Italian art landscapes like you might imagine... And that could be cool... However... You would hope that the food would be amazing authentic old school Italian grub. Here's where Alesi Pizza house really sort of left me wanting for something a little more cheesy and cliche. First off, you're presented with a delightful basket of crackers... How depressing... No homemade bread but rather a basket full of basic saltines and pre-packaged short little cracker breadsticks with butter packets for dipping. Your entree is then proceeded by the most basic of house salads I could possibly imagine... Iceberg lettuce... A few halves of grape tomatoes... Throw in a couple of olives straight out of a grocery store jar... And then, to beat the band, the house Italian dressing has got to be Kraft Zesty Italian straight from a commercial size can coming off of a food supply truck. Like most Italian restaurants, the menu is huge, and offers all the basics... Which is also part of the problem, there's really nothing new or inventive or exciting... Just all your basic pastas, linguines spaghettis fettuccine cannellonis manicotti's parmesanas etc etc etc... Again, which could be fine... Like all new restaurants I try for the first time, I have to baseline the food... And being an authentic Italian restaurant... That means I'm going for the spaghetti and meatballs. That might not exactly be exactly what I want to eat, however in order to judge any restaurant I've got to have their baseline entree. And for Italian food, it's all about the spaghetti and meatballs, and most importantly the red sauce. So the spaghetti and meatballs arrives... It's the smaller of the two portions available... It's not super cheap at just under $13... But it's a pretty good portion of pasta. A dig straight into the pasta into the spaghetti... And thank goodness, the red sauce is pretty darn good. It's got a bit of spice, just enough to make it tasty, it's not too sweet, it's not too chunky, it's a really good decent red sauce. Which unfortunately... Leads me to believe it could be Ragu... This could be a base red sauce coming out of a food supply service can as well. Unfortunately then I dig into the meatball... The meatball seems like it's well formed and has a bit of spice... But it's basically the consistency of a rolled up ball of meat pudding. I've got to have a meatball that's a bit seared on the outside, I love that crust that's brown and caramelized, and then the meatball has been nice and soaked and finished off in the sauce. Was this meatball boiled? How do you even get this sort of jelly consistency in the meat without it falling apart... It's got a fairly nice flavor... But it can be so much better if it was just a bit seared just a bit cooked off just a bit browned around the outside. So... Unfortunately for me this leads to a big thumbs down for the rest of the dish. We also had a nice look at a baseline eggplant parmesan... Which was actually really pretty flavorful... But again the eggplant was a little squishy... Could have been so much better if it had a crispier outside and a bit of a crunch underneath all that sauce. Man, even the garlic bread was pretty basic... A couple of basic dinner rolls, with a basic garlic spread, basically cut in half, basically served in a wood bowl... Basic. Basic. Basic. So,... This authentic Italian restaurant... Though, I was hoping to have some of the quote unquote basics... Left me feeling basically like everything came from a basic can of Italian basic ingredients in order to make basic Italian food. Authentic? Probably not . Boring. Definitely. read more
