Not sure if the chef was having a bad night or what?!?!? Appetizer- calamari- not fresh! Def frozen and then deep fried. Rubber is the best word to use. This was definitely a precursor to how the dinner was going to go. Order the veal marsala- major mistake! Again, just as the calamari it was not fresh! Tasted like it was freezer burnt and then put into a frying pan and over cooked! - "tough and dry" are the best words to describe the dinners. My wife sent hers back. (it was replaced with homemade portions of ravioli). The sauce was burnt and to much basil! She did enjoy the ravioli as she scraped the sauce off of them. I must admit the service was fantastic!! Some of the nicest waitresses in the business! The place looked great! Clean and a nice atmosphere. Not sure what's going on in the kitchen?? - We will give it another chance as we have had great dishes from this establishment in the past! We are hoping it was just an off night!? read more

I will NEVER go there again. It's unfortunate. They have good food, but service was terrible. I ordered online. Was told 20 minutes. When I got there to pick it up, they had no idea. Don't bother ordering online. They don't even check it. When I told therm I ordered online, that's when they decided to look. Then asked for the $38. Told them I paid online. Really seemed unprofessional. So I had to wait another 20 minutes and got a meager "sorry for the wait". Best thing about this place is the Wednesday lunch buffet and the sandwiches or at least from my experience. The online ordering is cool but like the other reviewer said they make mistakes with it.. Pizza is average, I actually had to request a refund once on a Sicilian pie but I will say the owner was very nice and replaced it. They got it right the next time. I waited 2 years to finally try a dinner the other night. I pretty much stuck with pizza, sandwiches etc. up to that point. (Chicken parm is very good BTW) Anyway the other night I ordered Veal Saltimbocca for $16.95. I used to cook this dish professionally so I wanted to see how they did it here. Big disappointment. The veal was not pounded out or perhaps cut properly as it was to think and too tough. There was no coating on the scallopini either, just a white un seasoned un appetizing piece of tough meat. The sauce was a butter wine base that had zero flavor. I never like to add salt after the fact but had to in this case along with grated cheese just so I could taste it. I know the owner cares as he is always trying to improve his business. I have kept going back over the course of the last 2 years because when they get it right they really do a good job. Had pizza here first time since summer. Always loved this place but I have to be honest just not as good as it used to be. I expect the waitress to complain she has ten tables in two dining rooms..that's part of the charm. Pizza not hot dough-crust bland....sauce a little watery. Garlic knots tasty but too soaked in oil . Service fine considering busier than expected after lunch. I agree with other reviewers that a great Italian town like Hammonton should have at least two killer pizza places. Infererras is one but only townies know about it. Annata does have killer small pies and flat breads occasionally as part of their menus. A town like Hammonton should not have a visible dominos sign!! read more

The food presentation is awesome. A pretty plate makes it all that more delicious. I got the Cheese Ravioli and it was fantastic. My boyfriend had a Chicken Parmesan sub sandwich and finished the entire thing which was huge. Him and I had a really nice lunch here and would 100% return in the future. read more

I've never had a bad meal here - the food is excellent. Wanted to echo what others have said about ordering online, though. After you order, the website sends an automated message telling you to pick up your food in 20 minutes -- DO NOT LISTEN TO THAT, lol. Call them and ask how they're doing on orders. Will save you a (potentially VERY long) wait. Otherwise, no complaints at all about this place; the food is seriously fantastic. Definitely try it if you're in Hammonton, especially the pasta. My family ordered food on the online ordering system slice tonight. 6:15 was the time they ordered and after an hour and a half, they called the restaurant to see where the order was and was told the tickets were not printing in the kitchen for the online orders and that a ticket would be written up for the food. Another hour passed, nearly 3 hours for the whole process. No food. They called again and requested a refund. They offered food credit instead. My family said no, that a refund was necessary and apparently they don't know how to do that until they talk to the "slice" people tomorrow. read more

A couple months ago I had a bad experience here. So I left a Bad review. And I stopped going there ever since. Until the other day. You see out of all the pizza places in Hammonton, Marcello's makes the best pizza hands down. But runs very close to a competitor not too far down the street that also makes really good pizza. They're generally pretty good but on occasion, when I get pizza by the slice, they don't always reheat it long enough. The slices are then luke warm and the cheese isn't gooey. That said, when my slices are hot they are delicious. I had their Chicken Parma sandwich on another occasion. I was hoping for thick juicy pieces of chicken but what i got was thin dry chicken. My prior experiences ordering from Marcello's has been excellent. Prompt delivery and great food. However, this specific time I had a friend over and we decided to order original panzerotti's and a large feta salad. The salad was amazing but the panzerotti's were doughy on the inside. I called and let them know and they said they would remake it and I offered to pick them up. When I got home to my friend she took a bite. Same thing. I don't want to give this place 1 star, they get 2 for effort. Maybe they were old or something, but she couldn't eat it and I didn't eat mine. Was so sad to waste food. What an absolutely delicious meal. We brought friends visiting us from North Carolina and they enjoyed everything. I had the seafood casserole which was fantastic. The freshest fish, loaded with mussels and clams and placed in a hollowed out bread with a subtle white wine and garlic and oil sauce. Just got back from a pick up order. Was there a few days ago and picked up a new menu, when I went to pay the amount today the amount was $5.00 more than the prices on the menu . When I inquired about it I was told there is a new owner and if I did not want the food I could leave. I paid for the food and left but I will not return there again. read more

Wanted to try this place based on reviews on Open Table. Book a reservation for 5 for 7:15. Walked in at 7:10. Had hostess and waitresses walk by us for about 5 minutes before acknowledging us. I told them we had reservations through OpenTable and was told they don't take reservations. I showed them my confirmation email. She said "oh let me check". She tells me that they were cleaning a table and we would be seated in 2 minutes. We watched table get cleaned and the party of 4 that was waiting before we walked in was seated at the table. The waitress who told us 2 minutes walked by several more times never making eye contact. We walked out at 7:40. Illiano's up the street sat us immediately. Never again! read more

If I could give this place ZERO stars I definitely would. I would not recommend this place to a single soul that was hungry, in fact I would steer them in the direction of any other pizzeria in Hammonton. Today I scrounged up $12 so I could order a Panzarotti, a ginger ale because I was in extreme pain, and be a decent human being and tip this supposed pizzeria properly ( they shouldn't be in the business of making pizza or anything else). A Panzarotti consists of a pocket of dough filled with varying amounts of melted mozzarella cheese, tomato sauce, and any reasonable number of fillings, which is then wrapped, salted, and DEEP FRIED. What was delivered to my workplace was a baked calzone, it was not a Panzarotti, I've had many Panzarotti's in my lifetime and this was not it. On top of this, we asked for a pink lemonade, 2 ginger ale's, and another soda. What we got was 2 pepsi's, 1 brisk regular lemonade, and 1 ginger ale (that went to my coworker and not me because she thought there were two). On top of that, they nearly charged us $4 for a slice of cheesecake that tasted like an imitation of the fake cheesecake served at the Asian buffet with a hint of a really bad lemon after-taste. The coworker that ordered this is from New York so he knows two or three things about cheesecake. And his chicken finger platter was insanely salty. Talk about "Hello Sodium"! My other coworker ordered a bacon cheeseburger, but get this there was no bacon in the Bacon Cheeseburger. it was our first and last time ordering from this establishment. We ordered online, and were very specific regarding what we wanted and how we wanted our food. We called Marcello's and they basically gave us the middle finger and told us they were TOO BUSY and could not rectify the situation. The manager that answered the phone stated that the next time we ordered that he would give us a credit but did not ask for our information. But in order to get someone to come back you need to take care of them in the right way, in the here and now which they did not. All in all, if you want someone to give you bad food and rob you of your hard earned dollars then Marcello's is the place for you. Last time I checked, the pizzeria is in the food/customer service industry. Bad food and Bad customer service equals a flopping business. read more

Their pizza is the best around for miles by far and their other dishes are authentic Italian fare with fresh ingredients. First time here we sat in the dining room for dinner. Food was good, large portions with good prices. More recently we booked their side room for our wedding rehearsal dinner and had Marcello's cater it. The side room even has its own entrance from the street which was cool. The penne and the pasta with meat sauce were both delicious, as well as the chicken parm, chicken Marsala, and tilapia. Plus never-ending baskets of bread and bruschetta... Everyone loved the food and we barely had any leftovers. The owner and staff are also very friendly. We have been ordering from this place for years and overall I think that the food is the best Italian food around. I only had one issue one time where I ordered two pizzas and wings near closing time they said it would take 45 minutes which was fine I pulled up at the place in 35 minutes and then I had a young girl call me back and rudely asked me if I was going to pick up my order ? I told her I was walking into the restaurant now. I later asked her why did you call me when I'm not late and she was kinda flip and sounded rude and said we like to check to make sure people pick up their orders I think that was not good customer service. My wife, her parents and I came here today for lunch on the suggestion of one of the employees at Tomasellos Winery. She said it was the best Italian food in Hammonton! From the outside... the place is a small pizzeria... with a side dining room. The menu is classic Italian food. All of the entrees we ordered came with soup or salad. When the soup came out... it wasnt a very good version of pasta fagioli. No big deal... but was wondering if this meal wasnt going to live up to my italian blood Fried calamari appetizer was very tasty... they also deep fried hot cherry peppers in the mix. Gave the calamari a nice little heat! Doubts were fading away. Our entrees arrived... big portions. I ordered the Seafood Fra Diavolo. The BEST Seafood Fra Diavolo I have had!!! The sauce was a nice light marinara and spiced nicely. The seafood was fresh and cooked perfectly. The pasta was el dente. Perfect dish!!! My wife had the Veal Sorrentino and raved about it. My mother in law had the same dish as me, but in a scampi sauce and loved it. My father in law had broiled salmon with pasta. Fresh and cooked perfectly. This place to non-locals (like myself) is a hidden gem! When heading to South Jersey in the future... i will definitely make time to stop here for Seafood Fra Diavolo. Great job guys.
