Great little salon! Called for a same day appointment and arrived a little late but it wasn't busy and I was quickly seated. Marcel is very attentive and asked a lot of questions to help recommend the best cut. Originally I wanted just a trim but as Marcel says, she is not your average hairstylist and will give her opinion on what she thinks looks best. We decided to go a little shorter than I normally get and I was very happy with the result. Not a huge change but she could tell I was scared to try anything drastic and I appreciated her input. She had a hairstylist in training watch and made sure to demonstrate exactly what she was doing. I can only assume they will be hiring more stylists as this salon seems very popular! Overall very happy with the attention to detail and customer service I received. All for $25 before tip! Definitely one of the best value haircuts I have had in the city. Marcel is very skilled and can cut hair for men, women, and children. Be sure to call ahead for an appointment as you will have to wait a while if you try for a walk-in. It was a pretty straightforward ask, to fade on the sides and back with a cleanup and layering on top, however she was very thorough and skillful throughout. I am very happy with my cut and will no doubt return. The Salon was clean, comfortable, with large windows. I never leave reviews but this place deserves it. I have been looking for a place that knows how to do scissor cuts and I'm glad I gave this place a chance. I have tried other barbershops around the area and the cuts are always rushed, nobody has been able to do a good scissor cut for my hair. The price is great $35. It is good to find someone who won't just chop the top of your hair as fast as possible. I waited 3 months to get a haircut because there are no barbers with scissor skills, only machine. Marcel's hair salon is a great place to get a haircut. Marcel herself takes the time to get the haircut right, provides recommendations, but also is very skilled in seeing what the customer is looking for. She also finds a time to schedule customers in so when a haircut is needed in a pinch, a time can be found. In terms of covid safety, masks are worn and are kept on throughout the haircut. I went to Dramatics (another barber shop close by) and generally felt that it never came out right. There was another barber shop that I also used to go to by the lower east side where they give a head message and a hair wash for the same price as Marcel's ($25 for men's cut), but honestly, nothing beats a good haircut. read more

It's "official"!!! After my partner, David and I "tested" Marcel for our first haircut with her in June of last year, we have been going there ever since and now we have decided that she will be our official regular haircutter because she's simply the best!!! Very good and convenient located barbershop. I was walking around looking for a barber I saw a place in 72nd Street almost in the corner of Amsterdam av. But very small place it was raining and there was not place for you to wait so you have to stand out side in the rain, so I kept going like 4 door la ahead in a second floor I saw a sign for barber shop and salon I gave it a chance and the owner Marisela cut my hair, and it was very very good. Believe me is hard to find a good barber in the city who listen to you and do What you want not why they want. So very good hair cut nice and sharp!!!! If you are around this is the place to go!!! My first time there and I'll definitely be back! Marisela gave me great advice, colored my hair beautifully and gave me a fantastic cut. I went from over-bleached, damaged hair to a lovely brunette with silky finish. She had a lot of patience with my hesitancy and answered all my questions. the staff was friendly, but my undercut got messed up when i asked for a design... one of the hairdressers there went above my line and made it all crooked so i lost some hair from it... design was crooked but before i got the design it was fine (i think). the pricing was reasonable i guess but i'm sad about my hair now :( nicholas was also really cocky about his work... the picture with the blue shirt is what i asked for. he only used clippers and did not do anything to push my hair out of the way. he left it up and loose how it was when i came in. read more

She is amazing! I live in the UWS and had usually gotten haircuts after work in Flatiron. When the pandemic hit, I had to look for somewhere closer to my place (hair was a total mess) and stumbled across Marcel's Unisex Salon. This is the only place I've been for a haircut since! She knows how to cut hair for both men and women. Also, not that this matters, but I'm 6'5" and she is very much shorter than me, didn't even make me slouch down so she could cut the top of my head.
