They said the silk touch keratin treatment was vegan and the 24 karat treatment was oil based. She said the 24 karat treatment was 119 before tax and that it is better suited for my hair. I really wanted the silk touch but then the staff said it would make my hair flatter and I have short hair. I listened to them and opted for the 24 karat keratin treatment. They first washed my hair out and were generous and offered me water. I wasn't thirsty though so I didn't need the water. After washing my hair, they went to work and it took 2 hours until it was finished. My hair in the end came out very sleek and straight. There was some shine but not that much. Maybe there would have been more shine if I got the silk touch. After my hair was finished, the staff recommended the conditioner, Ultimate Repair System, which is keratin/color safe/paraben free and infused with marine keratin. It was small and a bit pricey but I decided to get both the shampoo and conditioner hoping my hair would become sleeker and straighter. Overall, Hair Bar is my go to when it comes to keratin treatments since they are formaldehyde, vegan, and contain essential oils that are good for the hair.

I can't even get it fixed because it is so much shorter than I wanted. There are huge "texture" discrepancies all over my hair, the most obvious being in the back near my neck. There's also a strand of hair far longer than the entire length of my bob cut. I don't even understand how this happened. I'm so traumatized. I would never recommend this place and will never ever come back. I really had 1 chance to get a cut as a treat to myself, since I really don't have extra time to spare. And now I have to live with this until it grows out, definitely more than 6 more months. If I could give -1000 stars, I would. Please do yourself a favor and find a salon that can do a nice cut for long AND SHORT hair. WITHOUT A PERM TO MAKE IT ALL STRAIGHT FIRST. The skill level here is just so sub par. I could have done it myself.

Same guy handled my hair. In the middle of the process, owner told my stylist to do something he did not know. And voila, my hair is nice and sleek now! can only wish roberto's the one who cut my hair since i read good reviews about him. My stylist is probably new and not a pro yet? O.M.G. Apparently this guy Arthur is "THE GUY" to cut men's hair, because my husband loves him so much, he flew from Germany to get his hair cut by him. I highly recommend Arthur -- anytime he gets his hair cut by Arthur, he looks like he blew $100+ on a haircut. He said Arthur not only will spend 2x as long on your hair cut to ensure that it is perfect, but he also has a true love of hair styling and cutting, and he has amazing memory and will remember exactly he cut your hair the last time and he also has an innate knowledge of hair and what would look best on you -- because trust me when I say that my husband's hair is very hard to work with: it's stick straight, full on the sides (so sticks out) etc. Arthur made him look like a million bucks. The people here are super nice but there was a problem with listening, there was a blonde lady who cut me and it was nothing close to what I wanted, I told them I wanted them to give me a shape up and a mid fade and to trim 1/2 an inch off the top, the seemed really distracted and wanted to rush my cut. I ended up not getting a fade and had them cut everything on the side about 4 millimeters. That was a big enough problem for me but she also took an inch off the top instead of 1/2 an inch. Lastly, they did not do ANYTHING with my hairline. The one positive thing however is that the head barber was really nice about everything. That's why I'm giving them 2 stars instead of one. I don't recommend it but maybe it was just the blonde lady that cut my hair. read more

Classic NYC Barbershop. A Haircut, hot cream , straight razor, hot towel , and neck massage all for 17$. Every time I get a really good haircut, no matter which barber I get. They also have current newspapers (NY Times , Post , WSJ ,etc) to read while you wait / getting haircut , and a couple of flat screans with News/Sports on. Parking is scarce in the area, granted that its the Upper West Side, but its really close to the 72nd street & CPW B/C and 72nd & Broadway 1/2/3. Its a small barbershop that you will quality for not a lot of $. Don't go here if you expect a fancy pancy 500$ with the high fashion atmosphere. Its great for guys and kids that appreciate a good, clean cut! read more

The best hair cut and hot towel shave I've ever had in years!!! Barber Shop 72 greated me as soon as I walked into the door and made me feel welcome. I was offered a free wash within seconds of walking in. The girl that washed my hair gave me a massage and got every pressure point on my head that put me to sleep instantly. The guy that cut my hair Sal, was very professional and actually listened to how I wanted it cut. The hair was cut in less then 15 min Flawless!! I even had enough time for a shave. After years of getting passing haircuts I've finally found a place I feel confident to go back to. In life few things are important to a man. A mechanic you can trust, a cigar that burns eveningly, an establishment that knows your favorite libation, a firearm you can rely on, good buds, the kind of woman you wouldn't bring home to meet your parents but there is no other way around spending the rest of your life with her and them not finding out and a barber you trust putting a straight razor to your neck. One of the really great things about New York is encountering real professionals performing their work happily and with apparent joy. I never actively follow up on things like haircuts and manicures but in this instance I am compelled to do so. I have been to this barber shop several times and every single time the staff is unfailingly gracious and polite and the services they provide is impeccable. I travel back and forth between the city and Miami and my first stop when arriving here is to stop by the 72nd St. Barbershop. They are fantastic. read more

These guys specialize in making you look CRISPY. I'm a younger dude from the upper west side and I've passed through most of the barbershops in the area. The fam at Barbershop 72 outstrips any place I've been. I have friends who live out in Williamsburg or Bushwick and they go to pricier barbershops and leave with subpar haircuts. But one of my friends who lives out there had a great cut and I asked him where he goes. He said Barbershop 72. Boom. Whether you live down the block or in a separate borough it's worth the trip. read more

I love these people, to a man and woman, and I love this place. Great haircuts, with enormous attention to detail, great spirt and camaraderie among the haircutters, no matter what day of the week or time of the day (and they work long days, on their feet all day). Simply the friendliest people and the best haircuts. I am sure that some customers have their favorites, but I like them all and I have never had a bad haircut. The barber subjected me to his neanderthal views about sexual assault, namely that Harvey Weinstein -- like all men -- couldn't help himself because of his "animal instinct" and that women ask for unwanted male attention because of the way that they dress. Classic New York Barbershop. Great staff, clean inside, good price, and of course neck shave and hot towel are included. Lee the owner is a great guy, and I've never had a bad haircut there. Best way to get there is 1/2/3 to 72nd & broad, or b/c to 72nd & cpw. If traveling by car, good luck as parking is scarce on the UWS. I have been going to this barbershop for close to 15 years and Danny is the best Barber I ever had. He doesn't cut, he contours, he layers, he molds. Never was dissatisfied with any haircut, I received from him. THe rest of the staff is very accommodating. One complaint is how quickly they raised the price. An excellent, artful cut -- much better than that fancy salon on W. 57 where they charge twice as much and hose you with shampoos, coat checking, etc. This is a no-nonsense shop with pleasant surroundings and an affable, eager-to-please staff. When I go to get my haircut, I don't want to hear about politics, and I don't want to hear about how many watches the owner can buy himself with my money. Regardless of where you lie on the political spectrum, It's extremely unprofessional, and it made me very tense. I've gone back several times and received haircuts from several barbers/stylists/hairdressers, and I always leave feeling mildly assaulted. Professionalism is basically the only thing I care about in these types of businesses, and if they can't provide a safe and relaxing atmosphere, then I don't want to sit in their chair for an hour while they handle sharp objects around my head. That being said, I also find that they do not know how to cut my hair type, and when I tell them what has worked for me at other barbers, they ignore it saying "if I take too much off there then it won't do what you want." And then I have to explain to them that it will do exactly what I want since it has been proven in the past to behave the way I'm telling them it will if they make the adjustments I'm describing. They still ignore it, and then I go home and shower and my hair immediately behaves in the way I don't want. I end up having to trim it myself. 0/10 do not recommend. UPDATE May 14, 2026: The owner has responded to my initial review in a way which exactly proves my point. In my review, I mentioned that I had a bad experience at this establishment and did not feel safe due to the offensive conversation I overheard from the owner himself with his own clients as well as some other barbers. His response is to straight up gaslight me and say that this never happened, instead of apologizing for my bad experience and explaining how it will not happen again. Classic.
