It was a beautiful, albeit brutally hot day for picking! The sun was relentless out in the orchards and pumpkin patch, but the satisfaction of finding the apples at the top and pumpkins made us almost lol forget the heat. They had Frankie's and a bounce house there that day as well. Always check to see what cool events or music they have going on at the top! They have a playground for the kids I forgot to grab pics of, and have a farm store. Which of course is a bonus as well, we grabbed some pops and treats. If you don't want to have a pre picked pumpkin they do offer hay rides to the field for pick your own there too! read more

March Farm was founded in 1915. It has evolved since then. Depending on the season, you can pick your own fruit. The farm store is lovely, with fresh produce, baked goods, and other goodies. There is a playscape and farm animals. In the fall, there are hayrides and corn mazes. On this visit, a very hot day, (August 12), my family and picked peaches. The orchard was full of juicy peaches. We got the smallest bag for $12. There were plenty of peaches that could fit in that bag. I can't wait to go back during the fall! It's a great farm. read more

I love this place! March Farms is an adorable little farm stand, with parking next to and above the shop. Inside they have honey, jam, seasoning, spices, bagels, popcorn, meat.... It goes on and on. The bagels are delicious without any of the plastic taste from a supermarket. The apple cider donuts are a perfect fall treat, without too much sugar topping to fall everywhere. It feels like a quaint New England shop. There is also a playground on a field below, but Canadian geese were strutting around at a pond next to it. They seemed to have attitude. They do have pick your own fruit as it is seasonally appropriate. There is also a second space, down the road and to the right, which has music and food trucks occasionally. It seems you must bring your own chairs, so come prepared with a place to sit. You can see the field from the farm shop! read more

March Farms is a small family farm that offers seasonal pick your own berries and fruit along with family friendly activities. The Farm Store and Bakery is stocked with farm grown produce, regional food specialties , and baked goods. The farm is great for children because they do have a playground for children that they can enjoy and they also serve Pickle Cotton Candy. The taste wasn't as bad a I expected but I can't eat a whole bowl of it. I really enjoyed the farm because it's relaxing and the atmosphere is beautiful. They also have Blueberry and Peach picking in July which I'm looking forward to. read more

This was our first time visiting this farm for pumpkin picking, and my 2-year-old niece and 3-year-old daughter had the best time! There was so much to do -- we easily spent about four hours there and could've stayed even longer. Up on the hilltop, there were giant bounce houses, face painting and glitter tattoos, a corn maze, apple picking, hayrides, food, sweet treats, yummy drinks (including some for adults!), goats, and live music. After hours of fun up top, we headed down to the farm store area where the kids played in a wonderful play zone with little houses, bikes, swings, and giant tires in the sand -- all surrounded by beautiful views. We relaxed with fried dough and frozen cider while watching them play, then visited the friendly goats, cows, ducks, and pigs. The kids loved the "spooky" pumpkin patch -- perfect for young children! Before heading home, we grabbed some of their heavenly apple cider donuts (honestly, the best I've ever had), plus apples, chocolate-covered Oreos, pickles, applesauce, and more. Great family farm - and an awesome destination for fall family fun! They've got a great pumpkin patch at the entrance with a variety from plain, giant, to the odd ones. The farm store has all sorts of great farm fresh goodies - produce, cheese, mums! This is the third year we've visited March Farms for apple picking with our kiddos. This year, instead of the bus to Hilltop, we were able to drive our car to that area. They do ask for a donation to park on Hilltop. From there, you're able to access the hay rides ($3, 3 and under free), purchase peck bags for apple picking, enjoy food trucks and great seating around the fire pit on a chilly day. There was a great live band there today, The Yodels. Our kids love the hay ride, getting up close and personal with the apple trees - on a deeper level, having them experience where their food comes from is super important to us. Great to see them enjoy the fresh fruit! On your way out, don't miss the frozen cider with whipped cream and cinnamon by the pumpkin patch :) read more

I'm not one for leaving reviews, but the cashier this past weekend was beyond rude. Someone needs to teach that girl some customer service skills. She didn't greet us, look at, or even acknowledge that we were standing there. She rang us up, and didn't say a word as we left. The playground looked old and worn, so we didn't bother to bring our granddaughter over to play. We did however bring her to see the goats, whose greeting and manners far surpassed that of our snotty cashier. The goats were awesome. read more

We've been coming here over 12 years for CT's best blueberry PYO. Over that time this farm has grown and prospered and deservedly so. Their farm store now offers not only their own produce but a lot of sauces, jams and such made with veg grown just feet away. They've added a small kids recreation area and now offer food trucks and live music summer evenings. Agro-tourism at its best. The owner Ben (who died a few years ago) would have been so proud . TL;DR - Extremely lacking and boring experience. Only worth coming here if you have nothing else to do and are fine with spending a high price for small products. To start off, the farm didn't have proper guidance in terms of directions. It wouldn't be that difficult to slap a few signs around indicating where to go for evens such as the hayride, corn maze, etc. Speaking of the hayride, let's cover that next. The instructions on where to enter the hayride were unclear, and staff hadn't provided a proper explanation on where to go. Aside from the poor help from those who likely should've known how to better describe where it was, the hayride may just have been the most disappointing thing ever. After finally finding where to go, you're charged $5 for parking that'll last 10 minutes, then have to walk for 5 minutes to the corn maze where the trailer picks up and enter onto an old, run-down wooden wagon with 0 hay whatsoever and board. Although spoken highly of on their own services, March Farms' hayride provided an extremely boring experience. You ride down one or two poorly-kept lanes of an apple orchard only to be told to get off right back where you started less than 5 minutes later. The ride isn't worth the $5 for entry, and the fact that it lacked HAY which is literally in the name of hayride just made it worse. You'd genuinely get a more exhilarating experience at the kids section at the farm's entrance with a few decorations and pumpkins. The storefront was the best part, and even that could've had many improvements. There was a valid selection of foods, drinks, souvenirs, and more, however they were all priced very high, especially for the quality and portioning of what you get. A gallon jug of cider and a small bottle of spices costs more than $20, which is certainly something you don't want to hear after being told there were "fair prices." Lastly, I wouldn't recommend the place to anyone unless you feel like spending an abundance for lacking products, getting a mildly entertaining experience, and overall having a mediocre time at best. read more

I have been to several farms and March Farms may be the best farm I have visited. It is not your amusement park type of farm with ticket takers and attractions but it has beautiful views with rolling hills, a large variety of apple trees, pumpkins picking, a playground, corn maze live music and open air space great for social distancing during this pandemic snafu. This farm is mainly based on an honor system with its visitors not the typical money grab like other farms, where you've paid $50 before you step on their dirt. At March Farm you don't pay for parking or entrance fees, however you should pay for a bag for apple picking and any weighted items. As a warning, if you are looking to delight yourself with the delicious apple cider donuts, buy them when you see them! They will sell out and won't be replenished closer to closing time. The popcorn is also very delicious and can be addictive. Enjoy the epic New England views and grab some great apples. read more

We came here on a Friday afternoon about 1pm for apple picking. The guy in the store said " please pick from the trees close to the building." We saw Cortland and red delicious ... couldn't get to them - they were high up in the trees!!!! Why did he even suggest these trees - did they check that no apples were ready for picking on that section?? And we have to share in this review that we had two male members of our party who were 6 ft tall. But we had to use my father's walking cane to get to the apples to fill our $22 bag. Their county store was well stocked and organized. The mums looked wonderful. Pretty farm. Improve on customer service maybe ? Idk. Something. For apple picking - it was much more fun to do it at BOF at Guilford CT. read more

Came here to check out the farm and was pleasantly surprised how reasonably priced their spice and sauces we're. We found some awesome barbecue sauces, mustards, jams, and butters! They have a bunch of baked goods, but there didn't seem to be much left by the time we got there (1PM on a Sunday). The vegetables were definitely over priced and not worth paying the markup if you're not getting an experience (such as picking them yourself). Depending on the time of year, you can pick everything from pumpkins, to apples, blueberries, and strawberries. They have apple picking bags for $12 and up. Being that there were already a ton of people there, we decided to skip out on it. Maybe next time though. Still, a cool place and glad we visited. read more

Haven't been to March Farms for a few years. Wanted FRESH McIntosh apples for Thanksgiving pie and there was a beautiful selection at a fair price. Also scored a beautiful butternut squash, a box of donuts and, yes, a peach pie. We could have gotten spices and basics for Thanksgiving cooking, but didn't bring my list! We love the variety of choices and the cozy ambience of this shop. Wanted the carved Cardinal at the front door so badly!! We are so glad to spend locally, and the quality of the donuts and the pie cannot be beat locally (we had recently bought an expensive apple pie at a new local bakery, a few bites and we had to throw it out) with flavor, perfect crust and enough for six generous slices. We were ready to go back the next day for more! The staff was nice, but no hello, welcome or offer of help. We'll be visiting again soon. We have explored many options for Pumpkin picking in the state of CT and March Farms is easily one of the best. They offer a small corn maze for kids and many "pick your own". If you don't feel like taking their school bus ride up to the Pumpkin hill they have plenty to choose from down in their little "village" area. There is plenty of places to park. They also have Lions Club food trucks so that you dont have to leave for food. One of the best features is there playhouses for kids and good way change of pace if the parents need a quick rest. Which is situated next to a big area often rented out for birthdays. The houses are well built wooden playhouses and there is hay bails for your children to climb around them. The only compliant is I wish their indoor farmers market was a little larger and had more of a selection. read more

Quick read over the other reviews and see the only negatives are a supposedly a grumpy women and high prices. Every time we stop in everyone is more than pleasant with us and I don't really compare prices when buying things like berries. So basically all the other good things people wrote I agree with. I mean you can't get any fresher than picking it yourself. Place has PC'ed up in the last few years. Not the old school farm it was. More set up for yuppies to bring their kids. Not a bad thing. Nut I do like the old rustic farms where the farmer with one broken strap on his overalls is the person you're dealing with. Blue Berries can take a long time to pick at a lot of other farms. Not here. Bushes are loaded. You also don't have to hike to get to them. You pull up directly in front of them and start picking. Nice area for kids to play in as well. My UConn senior decided to relive his youth and jumped on a kiddy car but couldn't complete a lap on the track. At 6'3" he also knocked himself out with his own knees. They have an Animal petting area that is a HUGE hit. Not for me, I myself prefer killing and eating them but for my wife and daughter it's perfect. I just don't tell them what I'm served them later. The farm store is filled with fruits, veggies, milk, cider, baked goods and jellies. Here's a tip for a fall drink I made up over the weekend for our ladies while at the Balloon Fest up state NY this past weekend. Warm up some apple cider and add Smirnoff Carmel Vodka to taste. This farm is great for apple picking. It was my wife's and my first time apple picking in the area as we are from Southern CT and didn't want to deal with snobs from NYC coming up to the area. The prices are average but there are so many apples to choose from. When I tell you so many, I have been apple picking each and every year and have never been to a farm that had so many apples still on the trees. They have many different varieties to choose from as well. There is a large playground for kids (which looked like a lot of fun), a corn maze, hay rides, a small store with donuts, cider, jams, etc. and grill on the premise as well as a kettle corn vendor. But unfortunately a surprising number of people were not wearing masks. For years, my friends and I have frequented Windy Hill Orchards in Great Barrington, MA for our apple picking needs. However, last year, an ice storm the previous May had left the trees bare for apple picking come October, and the beau was coming along to pick apples this year. The steep hills of Windy Hill, we knew, would provide some very effective physical therapy for him, but that's NOT what we wanted. (It's not quite ADA accessible there, needless to say. Heh...) We broke a six year tradition and went to March Farms, with a more easily accessible apple orchard, and...well...we may have started a new tradition. Sprawling over many acres, from the valley to the hilltops, March Farms provided us with ample fruits for the picking. There was hilltop parking for the upper apple orchard, which was great for us. A large variety of apples were hanging like red, yellow, and green jewels from the treetops. Many trees hang fruit hanging low enough for a friend's 5 year old daughter to reach just standing on the ground. A peck of picked apples ran us about $15. Ehhh. No matter. A hair pricey, but the product was delicious! A sprawling pumpkin and gourd patch also took up residence on the hilltop orchard, demarcating the parking area from the apple orchard. The two youngest apple pickers we were with certainly had fun marveling at which pumpkins they wanted to take home; the 50 pound one was gorgeous, but just a little too much. Ha! This is a great orchard that is kid friendly, easily accessible, and won't break the bank. And did I mention the stellar views of southern Litchfield County? I think I have a new favorite orchard. You go through the store to buy the pint boxes if you want to pick your own berries. The store also sells drinks, fruit and baked goods. There are plenty of rows of blueberries to pick from. Across the street are goats you can pet and feed, although we probably shouldn't have fed them blueberries. I think there's also a pond where you can rent paddle boats. And they have a playground with toy cars for the kids and shaded picnic tables. read more

PDA (Pretty Damn Average) and PDE (Pretty Damn Expensive). $16 for a 9 inch typical farm stand fruit pie? $2.69/lb for zucchini? My friends with gardens can't give those things away. We did not have the pleasure of meeting the "nasty lady" noted by other reviewers, but this place just simply underwhelmed. The orchards are plentiful and scenic, and they do have a nice play area for the little ones, but the farm store is small and uninspired. You'd think you could get a fresh juicy peach in CT in Sept? My family has been going to March Farms for years to get mostly apples and peaches. Always loved the cider too. The past couple of years there has been a nasty lady....uhhh person(she's no lady) in the store that completely ruins my trip. I started talking to family and friends about their trips to the farm and they ALL have encountered this extremely unpleasant person. I've been going to March since I was a kid, and it's great to see how much they've grown and expanded! Well, except on the fall weekends when everyone feels the same and it's a bit crowded. I'm lucky in that I can stop by any time, but if I didn't live nearby then I would battle those crowds because it's a great place. The apples and other fruit is great, the pies are incredible and the cider donuts are dangerously delicious! If you have kids, the play area is really fun, and there's a pond with a picnic area. This was our first time here. We purchased our tickets for the hayride, corn maze and pumpkins through a special on Groupon. I'm so glad we did. It was very busy there when we went, around 11am on a Sunday. The corn maze and hay rides don't start until then, again on weekends only. Parking was easy and accessible. I recommend going right to the hayride line and waiting; the kids can go play in the very nice playground and tractor track right next to the waiting line. This worked out great. The kids didn't have to get antsy and impatient and I felt ok letting them go off and play without us hovering. The tractor ride was fun and just long enough. It drops you off right at the corn maze and at the top of the orchards. The corn maze doesn't have dead ends, but has clues throughout, so make sure you read the information panel at the entrance to the maze. After the maze, we decided to buy a bag of freshly popped kettle corn (my favorite), a bottle of water and a small pick-your-own apples bag. We walked all the way back to the farm through the orchards along the farm trail. We were able to pick some beautiful apples, which were delicious by the way. The walk was easy (going downhill back to the farm. It would be tough for little ones going from the farm TO the top near the maze) and it offered some great views. After the orchards, we stopped off to see the goats, sheep and cows and to get a picture opp for the kids on top of the giant pumpkin. We finished up our day in the store for some cider donuts, choc chip cookies and some other fresh fruit. Of course we also picked up some small pumpkins for us too. What a great day and we can't wait to go back for the other 'pick your own' seasons! PS. They must have asked the 'mean lady' to take a day off. We did not encounter her. read more
