I love this place! Friendly, knowledgeable people at the front desk. Great results. I get rubber not skid soles added to my Italian loafers so I don't wear out the non-replaceable soles and have to pony up 11 million bucks to buy another pair. I got my horse's leather breast coller repaired and it looked almost brand new. When I got I back I saw they had only fixed one side. I asked to have the other side done. When I picked it up they said Ok, here you go. And I said I haven't paid. They said "nope, you paid." I said that's not fair for you, I will pay for the second one as well." I lost. These guys are the best. Hands down. I've gone to them many times and they continue to raise the bar in customer service and craftsmanship. My most recent request was to affix Tricouni climbing nails to my Corcoran boots. (something that I'm sure they only see once in a very blue moon.) They did a great job. I'm sure it wasn't an easy task because I tired myself and the nails just would NOT want to stay in the thick rubber sole. Without fault my boots were ready within the promised time frame for a truly inexpensive cost to me. I was so happy with the work I felt compelled to pay a little more. They would not accept the additional cash I felt was deserved and also 'threw in' a new pair of laces. Free! I purchased a 'Beeswax leather care' that makes the boots feel very supple. Great place to get men's shoes resoled. They provide the service in a timely manner for their customers. In terms of products for shoe care....meh. It forces me to use Amazon, which I prefer not.....shoe snob (me). I'm sort of a stickler for doing my shoes properly. Would prefer if they sold Saphir products, JR outsoles, redoing entire soles instead of half soles. Not sure if they can resole beveled waists and good at refinishing leather uppers. One thing that I was a bit put off by is lack of attention to detail, but then it was about normal pricing for work performed. It's San Rafael, not San Francisco. read more

I waited awhile to review this place so that I could see how my resoled shoes did in action. Here are the results 3 months later 1. Yes, replacing soles here was expensive. 2. My dress shoes were resoled with vibram like soles. More suitable for hiking boots than dress shoes but ok. They said that was all they had. 3. When I first walked in them they sure felt very different than the originals. Not a big deal just be aware of it. 4. And the reason for low rating...after 3 months the soles are peeling off already. I have some rubber rain shoes that split in the back by the heel. I couldn't find any similar ones online to purchase. I just loved them. I first brought them to another shoe repair place to see if they could be fixed. Within a half a second I was told they couldn't be fixed. So I thought why not try Marelli Brothers since they have been around a long long time. Well I was right. They were able to fix them (with no hesitation when I brought them in) and did a fabulous job! The storefront with the green awning and faded lettering was hard to find the first time. Once inside I saw mostly work boots and row upon row of dusty bottles of every shoe product known to Man (not even slightly exaggerating here). Rather than construction workers, the line-up of customers waiting to be served were well heeled Marin ladies dropping off glittering evening pumps for a little TLC. The men behind the counter patiently took each pair with the care and concern they would show for a medical condition. No wonder this place is so often yelped about! We initially were referred here by the shoe department at the Nordstrom in Corte Madera to dye my wife's shoes for our wedding in 1999. I have come back many times and they always do a great job. The Brothers Marelli, Ron et al., have always been helpful and knowledgable. I went in with a wierd, white-colored "growth" on a newish pair of shoes, thinking it was something mold-like, as it got bigger then smaller. Ron diagnosed it immediately as wax, showed me how it disappeared with heat and, sure enough, it was immaculate after they dry cleaned it. The staff are great, but I always prefer dealing with the brothers themselves. Last time, David helped me problem solve a poorly fitting shoe that was causing me to wear through the lining of the heel counter. Even a cobbler's kid could get their shoes taken care of here! Update - I have subsequently done a little comparison shopping recently and their prices are rock bottom, especially for the high service and quality work they do. read more

Waited to write this review to see how the shoes worked. People at Marelli did an amazing job on all my expensive shoes for a reasonable price (or so I thought) and return all my items in 4-5 days. The staff was very helpful and nice. Every time I went there were a few people in line! I would have never thought so many people went to a shoe repair shop! Frye boots got new soles and heels, and polished for $37. Decided to put rubber soles instead of leather to make them last longer since the leather soles tend to get holes in them with they touch water. Boots look amazing! Tory Burch flats that I was ready to throw away and embarrassed to wear because of all the peelings came out looking like new! For $26.50 they got a new thin rubber sole put in and polished the shoe to look like new. My almost new Tieks flats got some love too, since they are made with Italian leather and they are thin, they were able to put a leather patch inside the shoes on the big toe area to prevent the shoe from getting a hole from my toes. The patch and polishing came down to $7.50! Also brought a pacsafe travel bag that needed the zipper fixed and they did a good job (it was an extremely easy fix) their minimum is $7.50/job so that's how much they charged. Though it was overpriced for what it was but they got it fix and that's all that matters. Loved their service and will most definitely keep bringing my shoes back!!! read more

These guys are fantastic. Brought in a pair of used boots from haight street in the city to get re-heeled. They put on some beautiful new heels, cleaned up the soles, polished the boots and got me new laces for $20. WAAAY cheaper than the competition, and even if it wasn't, I would still go back because the brothers are so friendly. Check this place out. read more

I can't speak for the other reviewers but my experience with Marelli Bros was excellent. I brought in three pairs of my wife's heels for tips and heels, a pair of Birkenstocks for rebuilding and a pair of expensive dress shoes for soles and heels. The results on each pair were excellent. For the tips and the soles you can not really tell where the new material was put in, it blends so well. The ladies at the counter were very friendly. The one cobbler that I talked to about one repair was clear and explained what they wanted to do with the shoes. I read on other reviews that this is expensive. I counter that it is far cheaper than buying another pair of shoes. A $50 repair over $550 for the shoes new. It isn't a debate in my mind. The work is of very good quality and was delivered on time by friendly people. We have finally found our Marin county cobbler. read more

We've brought shoes here intermittently over many years and we make the drive from SF because they do the best work and our shoes look new when we get them back. Recently had heels resoled with rubber ($27 ea) and leather tips put on a pair of sandals ($17)...not the cheapest but quality work. Staff have always been helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. It is really a pity that I have to write this review and I did my darnedest not to. I've known the Marelli family all my life. The father knew my Grandparents, I went to middle & high school with Kare, so to have to write that they are not honorable is a bummer. The gist is that they wrongly stretched a pair of $251 Italian leather shoes because the woman at the front counter wasn't listening to me. She nodded like she did, but when I returned the shoes was absolutely ridiculously stretched in the wrong place. There was no "I'm sorry". She became defensive and I wasn't eve raising my voice, just trying to find out how they miscommunicated so badly. I left the shoes there for over 6 months and called repeatedly to see if they had "fixed" them; and they got them to looking right but the leather was like the texture of crackers. I tried to wear them and the problem was at the bend near the knuckle so the dug into my foot with each step. I wrote them a 4 page letter with pictures of the shoes, the website of where I bought them, the charge through my bank and an explanation about how sorry I was but that I really felt like they should reimburse me since it was a communication error on their end. The first letter they ignored, so I sent one for $16 to receive a signature confirmation and they've still ignored it. I paid $271 for shoes they ruined and they don't even have the integrity to call and attempt to find a solution. I'm not wealthy so it's a super bummer to lose that much money and even more to realize that one of my standard go-to businesses is so mixed up. read more

Worst experience ever today. Do not bring any purse to repair here. All I needed was to shorten the strap of my purse. I showed the lady in front the original stitching and confirmed if they are able to cut and make it look as close to the original ---- she said "oh yes, we'll stitch it back same ad the original with thread as close to the original color" ---- dropped it off on a Saturday, she said come back Wednesday. Well, I figured give them a full week and came back today (Saturday) ---- paid and got the strap.... she said, look u can't even tell the difference..... I looked closely and told her, well it is not stitched it. It is just glued back on. So she takes the strap back to have r sewn ----- it came back and I almost cried. Not just because it is a strap from a $250 purse (i am sure it's nothing for others, but i really loved the purse) --- it looked like a child or a blind man sewed it. The stitching was crooked and the thread was bunched up..... also it was so far away and not following the line where the original stitching was. It looked so awful. She said they will straighten it and fix it again...... i left and came back an hour later ---- it was still awful. Worst decision ever to come to this place. Maybe they can so shoes, but I can see in the reviews I am not the first one to have a purse ruined. Not even a sorry, like they are oblivious to how crappy the work was. Chose to come here after reading YELP reviews. Very pleased I could continue to wear my leather rockport - replacing the leather sole, because you cannot buy new rockports with the same. Only disappointment was the heel was replaced with Vibram. Was told this is better than leather - but I wanted the sound of leather to the metal. Next time I will specify this. Several people referred me to Marelli Brothers on nextdoor.com, when I asked for recommendations where I could take a leather backpack purse for repair. Based on those comments, I took my purse there last week, and I was extremely upset with the experience. I dropped it off Saturday. They said it would be ready on Wednesday, but I wasn't able to go until Thursday afternoon. When I got there, no one could find my bag. One would assume items would be stored according to ticket number, but it appears there is no real system at Marelli's. It's like a train wreck in this place. Everyone who came in while I was there to pick something up was asked, "What was your item? What were we doing for you?" When they finally located my purse, they said it would just be a minute as they were "wrapping it up." I though they meant they were putting it in a bag. After waiting several minutes, I realized that "wrapping it up" meant that they were just now starting on it, even though it should have been ready the day before. TWENTY FIVE MINUTES LATER, they bring out my purse, and it was so badly stitched that I don't even want to use it. I could have done a better job on my old sewing machine at home! It was a simple stitch job on a seam; one of the straps had simply come loose. I was so upset. It looked like it had been done by a clumsy child! So after all that, I'm out not only the $15 to fix it but now have to buy a new purse. Not to mention the frustration of waiting and waiting and waiting while they actually did the work. Had they told me it wasn't ready and asked if I could wait half an hour, I could have at least decided whether to wait or come back. My husband, who was sick and anxious to go home, was waiting outside in the car all that time. Maybe if I had come back they next day they wouldn't have rushed through the work and done a crappy job. Or maybe all their work is that bad, I don't know. I've had plenty of things repaired over the years and never seen such poor work. Another woman came in to pick up her job while I was there and was told it wasn't ready, even though it was also supposed to have been done the day before. She was told to come back the following day. The woman working the front desk loudly whispered to her "You should ALWAYS call first to be sure your item is ready." She also mentioned they were very swamped because one of the brothers had been out sick for 8 weeks and wasn't going to be back. HINT TO MARELLI BROTHERS: If you're short staffed, don't make promises you can't keep. And maybe hire people with a modicum of skill while you're at it. I will NEVER go back to this place. read more

This place used to be fantastic -- a real old world, craftsman experience. I've been a customer since moving to Marin in 1997. Over the past couple of years, though, it's really slipped into a downright poor customer service experience. My past four repairs, I dropped off on a Saturday, was told they'd be ready by Wednesday or Thursday, and returned the following Saturday to pick them up. Not a single one had been completed or even begun -- they had the shoes for a week but only started work when I came in, and only spent a couple of minutes. In three of the four instances, they could not locate the boots for for upwards of ten minutes before starting the repairs. I question whether the quality of the work suffers too because the jobs are necessarily rushed. It's sad to see such a longstanding, venerable business fall so far. I'm told they are understaffed and I hope they can get it together. Until then, though, I'll be taking my business elsewhere. UPDATE: The heel repair by Marelli Bros. didn't even last one wearing before the heel snapped off at the sole again. I took the boot to another repair service that said 1) Marelli had not attempted the repair properly, simply hammering in the old nails, and 2) the only way to repair it was to insert screws -- an option Marelli never suggested or gave me. read more

The picture attached is when I picked my shoes up ! If I could give this place No Stars I would! I took my shoes in last week to be cleaned came to pick them up today and the lady at the front Desk told me he did not like how they came out so I have to wait until tomorrow . Mind you when I let them know I was picking up my shoes he grabed my shoes and started brushing them with the suede brush like he had forgot to even do my shoes ! I ended up walking out and was going to come back tomorrow to pick them up , but then changed my mind . I then walked back in to grab my shoes. When I walked back in the lady at the front desk was talking about me to the other man working .VERY unprofessional! She was embarrassed when she seen I was standing behind her . I would never recommend this place to anybody! You don't treat people like that especially when people are coming in and trusting you with a personal item. Well... Yelp disappointed me again. So much for 5 star reviews. Went in on a Thursday. Needed to have the straps on my strappy sandals tightened so I can wear them on my vacation. I was leaving the following Tuesday so I had to have them no later than Monday. I made it absolutely clear to the lady that I had to have them done by Monday. She told me that was not a problem and in fact, they would have the shoes ready for pick-up on Saturday. So far so good. I actually couldn't pick it up on Saturday so I went on Monday instead. First of all, they couldn't even find the shoes. Then when they finally found the shoes, it was not done. They asked me to give them a few more days and I reminded them that I needed the shoes by Monday and had explicitly told them so. The lady spoke to the cobbler, he said fine and would have it done in an hour. They weren't even apologetic at this point. Instead of taking care of all the things I had to do before my big trip, I waited around for my shoes. When I went back to pick it up, the work was a hack job, clearly unprofessional and with no care. I told the cobbler it was messy, the edges were frayed and the stitching was coming off, and all he did was shrug. I paid them, but will never come back. Thanks again Yelp. read more

If you forget your ticket to pick up your shoes, go back and get them because you will need to go in the back room to identify it and may run into one of the partners, David. David will get angry and yell at you for not having your ticket. And because I'm of Asian descent, he started saying "no teeekket?" multiple times to make fun of me. I have never been treated so rudely . What a horrible way to run a business. There are many other shoe repair shops that deserve your business. read more
