I've been to the Margarita's in East Meadow many times, this was my first time at the Merrick branch. The food is similar but the Merrick outpost is much smaller than E.M., with funky decor and (IMHO) better food. I didn't have a rez, got the only empty table as a walk-in. Service was friendly but slow as only one person was serving the whole place plus there was a glitch with our order, but the excellent food and drink quality made up for those issues. We were too early for the Tuesday $3.50 margarita happy hour (starts at 4:00), so shared a half pitcher of house margaritas instead - they were tasty and strong. (Please don't judge me for early alcohol intake, had a hellish morning so needed a nice numbing agent:) My Mole Poblano Enchiladas were fantastic, 3 of them loaded with chunks of chicken and covered with a sublime mole sauce. My husband and I used to come here before and it was the best of the all the margaritas branches. This was the first time we've come since they updated the menu and apparently changed the owner (as per the staff). The tap water tasted like pipes. The meat quality was significantly reduced, the chicken tasted like it was boiled in chicken juice, the ground beef was like Ortega sloppy Joe. And it seemed they put the same chicken in all the chicken meals and same sloppy Joe meat in all the beef meals. The plate came out hotter than the food. After ordering takeout from here about 3 months ago (see my previous review), my wife and I finally had a chance to dine here. MUCH better experience this time! It's a small restaurant so keep that in mind when planning to come around a peak time (6:30pm on a Saturday we had no issue, but by 7pm it was packed). The margaritas tasted fresh and packed the right amount of punch, and the guacamole we ordered was actually made table-side, fresh and delicious. Definitely better than the last batch of guac we had when we ordered takeout... The entree I ordered this time (mole poblano) was very tasty. The sauce had a nice flavor to it, just wish there was a little bit more chicken in the dish... but the rice and refried beans that came with it were also very good (again, beans were a huge improvement compared to what I had the last time). Took a gamble on this place and it paid off royally:-). Nice interior vibe ( but I really miss Meson Ole!) and sat in the back which I recommend. A/C was a but too warm for my taste. The guacamole which they made fresh at the table was excellent. Drinks were good but wish they were bigger as other places often are. All the food was really excellent and heartily recommend! Then I ordered I believe #41 it was chicken with rice and beans. My friend ordered steak fajitas and she loved them! The service was top notch! When I asked for red onions on the side and jalapeños on the side the server had no problem. MERRICK location finally back to full service, for margarita's that is, quit the assortment , they will make it anyway you want also. excellent pricing for happy hours 4-7 and all day tuesday, service was very prompt and pleasant, food freshly prepared, main course could have had just a little more meat, but otherwise fine. quality wise i see no difference between this place, freeport and wantagh. tip: don't use a credit card in wantagh location. merrick is smaller then the rest, but if you are a local it's much more convenient, plus tons of parking vs. freeport and wantagh which is limited. good place to come even for just drinks and appetizers. read more

There is no way this location is related to the E. Meadow location. we were the only people in the place and yet it took like 30 minutes for our food to come out. I could literally hear the kitchen people not working for a solid 15 minutes after our order went in. Then finally they decided to get around to cooking. While we waited. My pina colada had big chunks of ice and separated instantly. The waitress did not understand English very well and got my order wrong and all of the food was totally subpar. Yes we were there early in the evening but only one or two other tables came in while we were eating. It was a miserable dinner. The location on Merrick Ave is nice but this place is totally on autopilot. No-one is minding the store. Nobody is running the room. Don't throw your money away here. Go to E. Meadow. read more

Happy Hour?!? Not so much!! Nothing was happy about our experience at this restaurant! We are always in the lookout for a great Happy Hour. Driving to another restaurant we saw a display in front of the Cafe advertising a great happy hour , we chose to stop in. The first off putting thing is the happy hour is available at the bar only. The restaurant is VERY SMALL and seats 3 -4 people at their tiny bar. So only 3-4 people may experience happy hour The second red flag was after ordering our drinks the bartender pulled a jug that looked like an old vinegar bottle from under the counter. She proceeded to smell it. She then had her co-worker smell it and pour our margaritas from the same bottle. GROSS!! The third and final straw... they advertise $5 tacos. They list 3 types available. I chose 2 and pointed to them in their happy hour menu. We asked for sour cream with the tacos and 1 extra tortilla. Each Taco had a $2 extra charge for meat. Yes meat. So they were $7 tacos not $5.I pointed this out to the manager and he did adjust the menu price but then charged us for using a credit card , saying the bartender forgot to. He then also charged 1.95 for the sour cream and $4.95 for the extra 2 tortillas!!! this made the bill EXACTLY THE SAME PRICE as with the adjustment. When questioned the manager said" you should be lucky she gave you the wrong tacos". They should have been $2 more each. So he was not honoring the happy hour bc his staff made an error!!! Btw... the tacos were ok.. not great!! We will never go here ever again!! I will be posting on the local mom sites and warning people! We recommend you avoid this establishment as well!! read more

Went early on a recent Sunday. Music is festive but too loud. Food was decent, and the Margarita good. When a large party started to arrive it was difficult to get service attention and the check. Needed more help, only saw the manager/owner and one waitress...I can't imagine the party got good or quick service. I'll be sticking with South of the Border down the block. read more

Very disappointed with the take out. First, they forgot to pack the salad dressings and I had to drive back to the place to get it. When I opened the salad, the avocado was all black, missing the cabbage and mostly just iceberg lettuce. Our server didn't really speak or understand english so it was difficult to order, to make it easy we just pointed at the menu item we wanted. We asked for extra queso cheese on the side of the chimichangas and inside we received shredded cheese on the side and instead of it being melted on top. Total miscommunication/interpretation. First let me say I have been to three of their locations and their each a little different. The merrick one is a little smaller and also doesn't have a liqour license so there is no alcohol. However this location is never crowded so ive never had to wait which is nice. Staff is very friendly, probably their most friendly location. This time i got the chicken quesadilla appetizer which was a little greasy and didnt have much flavor. However it was a big portion for an appetizer and once you added the homemade quac it came with it was tasty. Main course wise I decided to go real authentic mexican and got the Mariquites which was a mix of seasoned shrimp, chicken, and beef with plantains on the bottom. Plantains were over cooked and had no flavor. However the shrimp, chicken, and beef were seasoned perfectly. Got sides of homemade quac which was great as well as their homemade salsa. read more

Came here with my boyfriend for dinner on a Saturday night. The staff was super friendly and attentive and the food was delicious. I ordered the chicken fajita and the chicken was so juicy. The side of guacamole was yummy as well. I would have loved to have gotten a sangria with dinner but they still do not have their liquor license. My boyfriend was also craving a Mexican beer, but alas, no alcohol. It's a shame because the food is so good! I'd love to have a margarita at margaritas some day. It's great have a Margarita's Cafe in town. When it comes to Mexican food Margarita's gets close with an American touch. This location is small but has a nice atmosphere. Service is always good with a friendly wait staff. Menu is big and I typically order the fajitas which you can't go wrong with. Portions are big and the meat included is as juicy as it gets. They is still a delay with acquiring their liquor license which is a bummer so if you're in the mood for drinks make sure you call first to see if they are service liquor as of yet. Overall I really enjoy dining here and have been here half a dozen times and will still continue to dine here regardless of their lack of liquor. read more

Margarita's cafe is a authentic Mexican restaurant located on the restaurant dense Merrick Ave. It's a bit different from the Tex-Mex you'd find at Chipotle or Taco Joe's. Margarita's occupies the space where Burger 9 point 5 and Cafe Nee were. I had the Mole Poblano. The sauce was flavorful, and the flavor certainly built throughout the dish. The flavors were far reaching exemplifying smokiness, a little sweetness, a little spicy and chili, and hints of earthy and nuttiness. It came with rice and beans which were tasteful but not as complex in flavor as the mole poblano was. I found the quality of the food to be good and a great value for the price. The cost of the meal which included chicken, salad, rice, and beans was under $10. The service was friendly, quick, and attentive. You can be in and out within 30 minutes. read more

Nothing negative at all. We had a huge party and they were able to seat and tend to us. There live mariachi band takes request and walks around playing music. It's a family party type atmosphere. We had young kids and adults, all equally entertained. The food was great. The appetizer sampler has fried cheese, salami, chicken and all. Drinks have a nice kick and you taste the tequila. I called ahead of time and made reservation for my daughter and the manager was sweet and very helpful. My daughter celebrated her "17 " birthday at Margaritas Cafe with her friends a party of 5. She was so happy with the service and the they all said the food was delicious. This is her first time with her friends at the restaurant and out since COVID-19 and she said only good things about her night out with her friends. My husband and I love the location and the food is always delicious and fresh. The atmosphere is wonderful for some Mexican food and the non - alcohol drinks taste delicious. We do like to drink Margaritas, but since they do not have a liquor license those non-alcohol drinks are the best. My daughter and her friends loved them it adds to the occasion when you are out for some fun and you want to create good memories and take pictures of your night out at Margaritas Cafe.Thank you for making her evening special and allowing us to drop off her birthday cake since it was gluten free and it's her favorite dessert. This is not your average Tex Mex or American style place. There are regional items you don't usually see around here, like the vegetarian stuffed poblano peppers. Humongous portion sizes, great for sharing or eating the next day. The rice is well spiced, and the vegetables taste real (not frozen and reheated...). They understand what vegetarian means, so you don't have to worry about discovering bits of pork in your salsa (for example). Nice people, great service, small and cozy. Plenty of parking out the back. Even the police come here for meals to go! No actual margaritas yet, but word is they expect a liquor license soon. read more

I open the container and the quesadilla is lumped in with the refried beans (which I hate) then I put it in a plate and realize how small it is!! The two stars are only because our order was correct and it was done on time. We ordered takeout and The food was horrible. The tamales were hard and resembled microwave tamales. My fish tacos were floppy and tasted of soap. The guac had no flavor and half of our rice was undercooked and hard. Safe to say we're not going to be back here ever again.
