Usually it's pretty decent food here with some options for vegans. We usually get the veggie fajitas and/or the spicy avocado bowl (without the sauce) which is normally a very generous bowl with greens, veggies and quinoa but the last time they barely had a tablespoon of quinoa in it so we had to request it and then we were only brought one small serving despite two of us ordering it and both mentioning we didn't get any quinoa (btw, the quinoa is what makes the entire bowl so without it, it is just a salad and not even half as filling or delicious) so it was a bit of a long process to make the dish ready to enjoy. The servers are usually great. Coincidently the last one we had with the quinoa mishap had very little to no personality shining through and did not crack a smile the entire time so that was a little off putting but we still enjoyed our time there with some family. It's extremely difficult to hear anyone when the music is playing as it's honestly not set at a reasonable level and we avoid coming in the evenings as we like to sit in the bar area where it gets hella loud. Overall an ok place to grab a bite. It feels sticky and a little less than ideal clean a lot of the time so I wouldn't say it's anything to highly recommend but it'll do when you gotta have Mexican food and you're in the area. read more

Recent visit sat at the bar with a friend to celebrate her birthday. Ordered a Corona/lime that arrived ice cold and refreshing after a hot day. My friend got a signature Margarita but did not like it. We both got burritos minus toppings. They were very hot plates and food. My burrito was delicious and hearty. It was made just the way I like it. My friend also enjoyed hers. The service as always was fun and light hearted. For a Monday it was very busy and people were waiting for tables when we left. I recently stayed in Augusta on a work trip and went to Margaritas 5 times while there. I had the spicy avocado bowl with some changes due to dietary restrictions and not being a fan of too much spice. Yes. I read the name of the bowl! Haven, on our first visit was perfectly friendly, helpful and there when we needed her without being intrusive. The bartenders, Patrick and Gabby, were amazing when we sat at the bar (several times!). They were very friendly and upbeat. It was a pleasure to watch them work. On my third visit, I made a mistake when ordering and my dish came out with the chipotle sauce I thought I had asked not to be added. Again, I am the one who made the mistake. Eva was very kind and took care of it immediately. She wrapped up the meal and my friend was able to take it with her. I have been in the foodservice business for 30+ years and I know good quality food and service when I see it. It is obvious that the staff here are enjoying themselves when they work. I'm not sure what some of these reviewers expect. I've eaten here about 4-5 times. First, it's open later than most things in this state, where they seem to roll up the sidewalks at 7:30. Absolutely atrocious service I sat inside for a takeout order for 45 minutes right in front of the entrance and they let my food sit on the counter for I don't even know how long and the person working at the front lied and said it just got there the food is damn near room temperature. Really horrible service. I thought the reviews were being dramatic but no, like worst experience we've ever had. Our server A (don't want to say her name on here) was in a rush from start to finish. We ordered and asked for more chips and then 45 minutes after ordering she finally came back, no refills or chips, to tell us that someone deleted our order and they had to start cooking it.. 45 minutes after ordering. Not once did she ever come check on us during that time. It wasn't very busy either. The food was very good though so that's why I gave any stars at all. We got the birria tortas A left the food and ran, never offered any refills or asked us how anything was. Had to stop her mid run to ask for ketchup. Watched her treat the table next to us the same. Needs training for sure. I understand accidents happen but once you found out our food wasn't ever cooked, I would've come back with some chips, apologized and then brought some refills over because obviously if we are out to eat, we're hungry! We wanted to like this place because it came recommended from our nearby hotel. The food is not completely bad, it just took forever for them to come out. My son felt some kind of way about not getting his shrimp appetizer until dinner and then it only had 5 shrimp. Husband was upset because the table next to us who came in quite a bit later was served at the same time as us. Special requests, such as no sour cream, were not remembered. I got such a small bag of chips that was half full to go with the queso and there was so much queso left I couldn't eat it. :( The molten lava cake was also cold? Please educate your servers on the difference between a frozen strawberry daiquiri and a frozen pina colada. The waitress never came back to the table after she delivered the wrong drink until it was time to pay so I had to pay for the disgusting pina colada that I didn't finish because pineapple is gross and I never got what I ordered. Her response was "oh I'm sorry I must have picked up the wrong drink." The last time we came here it was horrible, and this time was no exception. I have been a regular at this Margarita's for as long as I can remember. When I'm craving chips and salsa and a refreshing Blue Moon Margarita after a long week at work, this is my go-to place. I normally sit in the lounge, service is always fast. Never-ending warm chips and cold, fresh, semi-spicy salsa arrive quickly and are served with a smile. The chips are thin, salted perfectly, and are satisfyingly crunchy. The house salsa does have some kick to it, my 11-year old thinks it's too spicy, but I do not. Instead, she orders a small side of guac for $2 extra (I don't mind). The drinks are made fresh right before your eyes. The bar is always fully staffed and the bartenders are friendly, knowledgeable, and fast. My favorite is the Blue Moon Margarita on the rocks with sugar (I mean you can't go to Margarita's and NOT have a Margarita right?) The drink is so tasty; and let's face it, the bright turquoise blue color, with the pink sugared rim, it's as sexy as it is delicious! My daughter loves to try the different smoothies and virgin drinks they offer. Beer, wine, and full bar is also available. On my most recent visit, I tried the shrimp tacos off their summer menu specials, my daughter ordered the taco salad. Our food came quickly and was beautifully presented. The shrimp tacos were cooked perfectly, just the right portion size for me. The shrimp were deep fried, and paired well with the creamy avocado chunks, the tangy cilantro (which I love) all nestled down with pico de gallo inside a cool crisp lettuce leaf. The taco salad was served in a giant deep fried tortilla bowl and was the size of my daughters head! She ordered the chicken taco salad and I snatched a piece to see how it tasted. The chicken was cooked perfectly, seasoned well, and the entire forkful was bursting with southwest flavor! Every meal I have had there has been served hot, fresh, and promptly. The menu offers a wide variety of appetizers, salads, fajitas, tacos, even a "Gringo Burger" for those who aren't fans of Mexican food and amazing desserts! I have tried almost everything on the menu and the flavors are always there and the food quality is consistent. (I will say I am a little sad that the Queso Fundito is no longer on the menu it was my favorite app.) The restaurant itself is large and accommodating. Good for groups/large parties/special events. It's nicely furnished with southwestern/Mexican decor, the ambiance is clean, upbeat, friendly, and exciting. It just looks like staff are happy to be there, work well as a team, and they just seem like they are having fun at their work. If you want to sit outside under an umbrella'd table, there is a lovely outside patio that you can access through the lounge. On our last visit my daughter and I chose to sit outside, it was really lovely, but it was also summer in Maine which meant when the sun went down the mosquitoes came out. I was fine with it, but they did bother my daughter - no worries. I mentioned to our server that we'd like to move inside and she was great! She was more than accommodating in helping us move our food and drinks back into the lounge. She was totally cool with it and completely understood. We were quoted a 30 minute wait and it was less than 20, and also via text, a major plus. I've been to margaritas in other locations, this one is similar to the others. The margaritas are definitely the best menu item, as they should be! They are consistently good. The food items are mediocre, though the Baja tacos I had were quite good but everything always seems to be just a bit overdone when I go- the taco shells have definitely sat under a lamp too long and the fish was tough. But they have good flavors. Every location I've been to always seems to be busy, with lots of families, dates, friends, etc. the restaurant seems to turn parties over relatively quickly and by 7pm it was definitely getting quieter (winter in central Maine!). On a rainy, crappy stopover in Augusta on our way to points north, we picked margaritas for dinner based on its proximity to our hotel, and the fact it was not just a franchise we had at home, so we'd get to try something new. I feel bad for those reviewers who had trouble with the manager or the food, perhaps we got lucky, but our experience was excellent. The restaurant decor seems a little old (and carpet in a restaurant is not something you see much any more), but it was clean with perfect dinner lighting. We got seated right away and ordered house margaritas. They were delicious, and not at all stingy with the tequila. We hadn't planned more than one round but we ended up having two each because they were so good. The guac appetizer was great, with chunks of visible avocado. There was plenty for three people (our waitress brought more chips when we needed them). Entrees were the taster, chicken chimichanga, and roasted vegetable zarape. All three were excellent, and cooked perfectly. We each tried each others entrees and said "that's good!" Each time (so nine separate votes by three people). Honestly we had such a great experience I was shocked to see how many people didn't like it. Came here on Veteran's Day, because they had a promo where a vet and one friend could both order anything on the menu for free... What a deal! So of course we had to get a couple of drinks, which helped wash down the complimentary chips and salsa. I know this place gets a lot of flack, and I get it... It's a chain, it's commercial, it's not "real" Mexican food, etc. I've been around the world but at heart, I have to admit to you guys that I'm still a basic white girl from Maine, so I'm pretty happy with pretty much any attempt at Mexican food, as long as it doesn't make me sick afterwards, and Margaritas has never done me like that. What I really like about Margaritas is the "naked" margs... Really great tasting beverages. This place is terrible! The service doesn't exist. I ordered a pretty simple meal - enchiladas. An hour passed... nothing. I found our server. Apparently it was sent to the wrong table. I don't think that is the truth. I honestly think my server got my order wrong. Another 20 mins, I found my server again to ask if they found my food.. she said they were remaking it. At that point, I didn't trust this restaurant and the food that they were serving so I cancelled my order. I didn't know if they were really remaking it or where it has been... Summary of service - server didn't even check us once. I had to find her each time to check on my food. She never came to our table to refill our drinks or our chips and salsa. She never apologized for our wait or experience. She didn't care whatsoever. I know we are in a pandemic but come on... checking on a table at least once isn't too much to ask for. We stopped in and had some after shopping lunch and had a great experience! Our food was amazing. We got the month flight of margaritas and they were all delicious. We also orders some Mayan Shrimp as an appetizer and they were great. Just the right amount of heat and the bed of salad they were on was awesome, nicely paired together. I got the Gringo Burger with fries and it was yummy. Dan got some fish tacos and he said they were great. Not fishy tasting, well prepared and very fresh tasting. Our server is what put our lunch over the top. You could tell the dining area was full and busy, with her having most the tables but she still managed to make her rounds and give us just the right amount of attention.
