I had eaten dinner already but I had a nice beverage, the Perfect Margarita. It was excellent. The bartender was nice and we conversed a bit , and he showed some pictures on his phone from one of the last times that Jimmy had played there. Of course there's also the gift shop . We thought it was ironic that we'd be stopping in Key West on our cruise just days after Jimmy Buffet passed away. Of course it made us want to stop by Margaritaville to toast to his memory. Unfortunately we found the experience to be lacking. The service wasn't real attentive and the restaurant itself is rather small and nothing special other than packing in the tables to maximize patrons. We waited a really long time just for our first round of drinks. It seemed obvious that something didn't go correctly with our order and the server didn't seem too concerned or willing to see how she could get our order straightened out at the bar. When the drinks finally arrived, they were a nice way to quench our thirst with the high heat and humidity. We didn't order a lot of food. What we did have was just ok in flavor and definitely not worth the price tag the Margaritaville brand put on them. If you want to enjoy eating while watching big screen videos of Jimmy singing over the years and reminisce, I'd suggest just have a drink and find another place for a meal. Or you could go to the attached gift store to pick up a tee shirt and then peak inside to the restaurant. read more

It's super touristy so expect to wait for a table for at least a few minutes in the off hours and be sat pretty close to other tables; they really try to fit everyone in there and maximize the space as much as possible. That being said, the prices are high but the food portions are a good size. We split the nachos and each had a margarita as an afternoon snack and left feeling very full and satisfied. Definitely a place you come more for the vibe than the food but not bad. I've been to a couple locations and the food seems standard to other locations. We came on a Thursday night around 6PM and it wasn't crowded. Service was prompt. Shared the burger in paradise with bacon and my son had the kids mac and cheese. It was standard box mac and cheese, but he ate well and enjoyed the large tv screen they had playing concert clips, music, and ocean scenes. A very chill dinner after a busy day in Key West. Our Five O'Clock Somewhere drink was very good. We could taste the alcohol which is always a good sign. I would have liked to see it served in a glass, though. We also ordered Cajun shrimp dip which we were really excited about trying. Unfortunately we needed a microscope to find any shrimp in there. It had good flavor but the amount of shrimp was pathetic. Too much cheese and probably only 2 small pieces of shrimp in the entire dip. We would not order this again. Thank goodness the drink was at least good. Credit the hostess for caring about getting us a table, her actions proved worthy by having a keen sense of when guests were about to leave. 10 minutes later we were seated and drinks on the way. We always stay at the resort but it's always good! They have an excellent restaurant, especially for being in a hotel. The fish sandwiches and burgers are especially good. Their breakfast menu is pretty good as well. The Key Lime pie is truly the best in the Keys. It's very nice and right by the pool, with both outdoor and indoor eating options. My party had to go to the bar to get the drinks we ordered. (Not standard practice; servers delivered other drinks to tables.). What a drag. I sat at the bar with my husband. After a full day by on the water we had a couple margaritas and wanted a burger. The bartender forgot to place our order after talking about how good the burgers are. The kitchen closed and everything in town was closed. Unbelievable. Great location! We only came in for cocktails. I had the Don't Stop The Carnival (my favorite frozen cocktail) with a Myers Dark Rum floater (my special add to the cocktail) and a Rum Runner! Since I had previously worked at a margaritaville, I was quite eager to try the original margaritaville; nevertheless, I was really let down. I've never tasted a margarita this sweet and sugary. In fact, every drink at my table tasted so sugary that it was almost entirely syrupy rather than fresh. Although the nachos were quite substantial and tasty, their cost was crazy for regular nachos. The atmosphere and floor simply seemed worn out and unclean. The majority of the building's tables and chairs were quite uncomfortable and shaky. The service was just okay, as our server also had to make the drinks himself behind the bar. The live music duo that amused my table was the only aspect of Margaritaville that I found enjoyable. It's the original Margaritaville location, so what's not to love?! The food and drinks are just fun, like the overall atmosphere. Many will say that it's just a commercial chain place, but no Parrothead can visit Key West and not stop in for a cheeseburger. My wife and I enjoyed the fried pickles, just the right mix of fried saltiness with a touch of sweet in the batter. The Double Cheeseburger in Paradise is big enough for two and it was cooked very well, to order... medium rare with mustard, lettuce, tomato, and a pickle slice. Chain restaurant or not, they made an awesome burger. If you have a choice of seating ask to sit in Sarah's section. She was a great server and has a personality almost as large as Buffett's himself! read more
