We visited the original Margaritaville while on our honeymoon. The staff was incredible, and went out of their way to help us and make our experience enjoyable. Not only did our waitress help us (she was awesome) but one of the managers helped us as well. They have great teamwork and work well together, which it's important. The food was great and of course the drinks were good too. We went around 2pm and it wasn't very busy, just walked right in and there was seating available. We only ordered an appetizer and drinks. The appetizer we ordered was the appetizer trio which had chicken tenders, conch fritters and the spinach artichoke; The chicken tenders were a little too chewy for me. I eat tenders quite often and wasn't a fan of these. The spinach artichoke was great! I'm giving four stars because the bartender, Derek, was really cool and didn't mind chatting with us. Of course, it was like noon so the place wasn't busy yet except for some Fantasy Fest folks getting body painted at the far end (and it was some amazing body paint!). This one had a strange bathroom configuration where you had to go through a narrow hallway, go up some creepy stairs, and then go down a different narrow hallway. Unfortunately, their service was not at all what I was expecting as we were rudely "greeted" by the hostess who honestly looked like she didn't even want to be there and wasn't the friendliest. We ended up moving to the bar and ordered 2 blueberry margaritas which quite frankly were the grossest things we've had. What made it worse was seeing the bartender continuously sucking his fingers after cutting himself on a broken glass while making drinks and handing out food. The normal reaction would be to wash your hands and put on a bandaid but that makes too much sense. We felt rushed the entire time as he dropped off our check before we even got our volcano nachos which weren't very good either. Another Margaritaville checked off! Very impressed with Margaritaville-Key West! In light of covid 19 they took our temperatures before we entered uthe restaurant was organized with social distancing in mind. Tables were all distanced well. All of the employees were masked up and most of the patrons adhered to the mask wearing until their food or drinks arrived! Our server was Szymon, he was clearly experienced and he checked in us enough to make sure we were well attended to. Somehow he knew after dinner that we wanted the key lime pie! The food is as you would expect at a Jimmy Buffets. Just plain good! I had the cheeseburger in paradise which is a classic and it never fails, while my wife had the coconut shrimp. Typical American bar food, not easy to make it bad but it can happen. Today wasn't that day. Our food was perfect and worth the trip from Wisconsin (yes that's right, we traveled from wisconsin for a long weekend and the only thing on our list to do was go to Key West and eat at Margaritaville!). Usually the experience at a Margaritaville is a little more lively. Given the times, that was expected to be more low key. But the music in the background was at a good level and made our early dinner nice. Overall an easy 4 star experience. Again definitely what we expected and maybe even a little better given the restrictions. On to the next one! If your thinking about going to this Margaritaville, do it. It's definitely a good place to go and if your like us, trying to hit them all, this Margaritaville is worth the trip and the surrounding area is amazing! Go for it! read more

I waited 5 minutes at the entry (there was no line and the restaurant wasn't particularly busy) before I was helped. As soon as I was seated, the waitress/reception person turned away without saying anything. I had to ask for a menu because their Q-Code menu system wasn't working well. I had their Signature Margarita (when in Rome, right?!). It was tasty enough, but was heavy on the ice, light on the margarita. This past week we made sure to make this our first stop to have some cheeseburgers and throw a few draft beers back for JB. The service is always great at the bar and the tables,. Can't beat the Buffett songs playing in the background or the live music. It is a great place to people watch and look at all of the great memorabilia. Food is pretty good. Would recommend the Cuban Sandwich. Conch fritters or Volcano Nachos are also a great way to start a meal or sit at the bar and order them with a few beers, run runners, or margaritas. After a long, hard day on the beach, we decided to have dinner at Margaritaville before getting back on the road. We were seated immediately. This is a smaller restaurant in town than what I had seen before. Also, take note that the restaurant is separate from the hotel. They are blocks apart from one another. Our waiter was very friendly and accommodating. I ordered a 6oz steak with a side salad (normally mashed potatoes, I asked for the substitute) and steamed broccoli. Normally when I ask for my steak 'well done', it still comes out slightly light and pink. I like mine burnt, and here it came out perfectly! The flavor of the burnt edges was enough to make me scream out in excitement and the inside of the steak was tender and slightly chewy. My friend ordered a plate of jambalaya and she had so much to take home! Now, the service and food were great. Lets talk about this bathroom situation. CAUTION: you will burn calories going to the restroom. You have to go up the mountain, over the river, and through the woods just to use the restroom. But really, it's more like up the stairs, around a hallway, up another set of stairs and through a shorter a hallway. They know it's a long walk because there are mile markers on the wall. Honestly, if im going to go to a chain, key west's margaritaville is the only one I'll succumb to on vacation. This time however, my boyfriend and I were rather disappointed. We split some apps for a pre-dinner tide-me-over, and they were just OK. Absolutely nothing to rave about, but the service was awesome and the vibes in Jimmy Buffetts chain are so incredible. We had the app sampler with conch fritters, tenders, and dip. The dip and chicken tenders were delicious but I learned that conch is not my thing. The nachos... margaritaville did EXACTLY WHAT I HATE when it comes to nachos. Substance on the top 10 chips and nothing other than that. That first Margaritaville store here in Key West was barely bigger than the living room of my last house, but had some really cool T-shirts!!! This Margaritaville store and restaurant is a few blocks away on Duval Street and has a good sized T-Shirt and Souvenir shop, plus a big restaurant!!! We got to visit his Margaritaville store and restaurant in Cozumel a few years back and it was a nice place to eat, have beers or drinks, and grab your T-Shirts. This one is no different, it's a very nice place to come have good food, drinks and get your T-Shirts and Souvenirs before you head home or to your next adventure! As a bucket list item a friend wanted to go for his 60th birthday. I had made a reservation the month before because we were a party of 6. I called to reconfirm less than a week before we were there. Both times when I called I let them know it was a bucket list deal and my friend was handicapped so we needed to keep that in mind for seating. When we got there they didn't have the reservation. They did open the upstairs and said it was our only seating option. The reason I made a reservation is my friend is handicapped and doesn't do stairs well. So we ventured up stairs as best we could because this experience is what we were there for and it was really dirty. The pictures have not been wiped off for years. And even though the day was mild, the upstairs was extremely hot. One bright spot was that our server did not seem to be upset that he had a table upstairs even though it was closed. The cheeseburger was good; well cooked and well seasoned. And the drinks were fun. It was also fun to look at all the Jimmy pictures, but for a guy who had a bucket list item and for me to let them know and for them to mess it up so bad....3 stars is generous. read more

I have to say I was very disappointed going to Margaritaville. It took us at least 10 minutes standing there waiting to be seated before the host ever showed up. He was very nonchalant like he didn't really want to be there. The guy in the Margaritaville store greeted me better than the host of the restaurant. And our waiter was not that good. He didn't try to make any suggestions or if there was any specials we wouldn't know ' cause he didn't tell us either but either way he really wasn't that friendly. By the time he got our drinks or food was already ready. So one thing I do have to say the food came out quickly and the kitchen staff was on point. The food was okay but a little pricey for chicken fingers. The Havanas and bananas drink was way too strong for me thank goodness my husband shared it with me. We also got regular drinks that we had to ask for refills for. Everybody talks about how great Margaritaville is but this experience really ruined it for me. You would think that this being the first Margaritaville it should be on point and all of the outside Margaritaville's should be taking notes but I can't say that about this place they really need better front of the house training. read more
