Came here on a sunny but cool September evening for my birthday. They are only serving customers outdoors above the Grand River on a terrace they call the J Dek. We ordered the olives, which came hot and scented with lemon; we wished they'd been less hot, but we enjoyed them after they cooled off. I ordered the roasted seafood tower ($49), which was a ton of seafood in a heavy metal lasagne pan atop a wire pizza server, NOT a tower. My husband chose the brie tortellini, small portion ($17?) which surprised me, he doesn't like cream sauce, but he enjoyed it, rich as it was. Split a small Caesar salad. We were amazed how perfectly everything was cooked. The asparagus and squash in the tortellini dish were cooked but firm. The shrimp, mussels, clams, king crab and lobster tail in the seafood "tower" were all perfect, not overcooked/rubbery at all. A miracle. And the olive oil/butter/pepper sauce was over-the-top delicious. Surprise, they bring out some pasta at the end to mix with the sauce, I'm bringing that home! So we indulged in dessert, which was as lovely as the entrees. A chocolate marquise for me and a creme brulee for him. Perfect. With our bottle of Louis Latour 2016 Pinot Noir, it was a memorable meal. Loved sitting overlooking the river. I hope the servers learn to pour a little smaller wine servings a little less enthusiastically - I was worried the wine would come splashing out of our glasses - but all in all, a completely delightful meal. read more

First of all the restaurant itself is very beautiful! I ordered the roasted half chicken for $26 and a cocktail (I cannot remember which one). The chicken came with a salad and I must say there was nothing exciting about it. Here's my theory if you're going to charge Ruth Chris/ Chophouse prices, the food should be "just as good."The salad dressing was not great. The chicken was bland and barely had any sauce. I couldn't ask my waitress for more sauce or maybe a salad with a different dressing because she went ghost. Plus we had a show to get to so I just ate it since I was paying for it, but I will not return to this restaurant or recommend it to anyone. I guess I shouldn't have tried to play it safe by getting the chicken. A $5.99 rotisserie chicken from Meijer taste better than that chicken. It looks great and tastes dry and bland. read more

Disappointed. Salmon dish lacked flavor and has too much breading and tasted like it came premade. We were with another couple and nobody liked their meal. Although nice the service was not super. We had some menu questions and she didn't know and didn't find out. Menu was small. Hopefully it will work out some kinks. read more

I made reservations for a group of 7 for my birthday dinner. Overall, I'm a little disappointed. My fault for not reviewing the menu before I reserved but the experience was great. I've stayed at the JW Marriot before but have never been to Margaux. The restaurant is inside the hotel. They have valet parking or you can park in the parking ramp right next door. I feel like first impressions are very important. When I showed up, the host told me she didn't see a reservation for me. She looked for a bit but told me there was no reservation. I said it was for a group of 8 and then she found it.. It was a simple mistake but not what I wanted to hear when I first get there and on my birthday. We were seated next to the kitchen but the kitchen is wide open to the eating area. The menu was very limited. I didn't find any of the entrees appetizing. My friends got the trout, salmon, and soup and they were all bland. For the price of the food. I don't think it was worth it. The experience was great but I would recommend looking at the menu/pictures before going. read more

We were looking forward to trying Margaux since we were staying at the JW Marriott. We have fond memories of the old 616. While the service was excellent, the food was very mediocre, especially given the high prices. The salmon en croute was dry and the Walleye had a Nantua sauce that was not good, barely any crayfish flavor. French onion soup was good, as was the steak tartare. This is clearly an "expense account" restaurant, targeting folks wining and dining on the company dime. Next time we'll just hoof it down to the Chop House or Leo's. read more

Fries were great, would have given a better review but I am shocked at what the bartender did. I tried to order an $8 drink. He told me it was trash and they were about to get rid of that drink menu and start a new one. He instead asked to make one based off of what flavors I like. He didn't give me options, just started making one after I said a couple things I like. He then charged me TWENTY THREE DOLLARS. He made something up for my friend too and only charged her $13. What a complete way to take advantage. I didn't want to cause a scene so I paid it and left. We travel here for work and usually choose this hotel, but if I stay here again I'm going down the street to different bars and restaurants because of that. read more

We celebrated a friend's birthday brunch at Margaux this past Saturday morning and we were absolutely blown away. Not only are the new renovations gorgeous, the staff was also incredible. We had a reservation for a group of eight, and they were more than accommodating for our larger group. The hostess was very friendly and helpful. Our waitress, Liz, was absolutely phenomenal. Although it was our first time dining here, Liz made us feel very welcomed and made for a perfect birthday celebration for my friend. She was very knowledgable on the menu, and guided us through the Sunday brunch menu, suggesting some of her personal favorites. We all settled on doing the buffet which exceeded expectations. The chefs offer such a wide variety to suit every taste, and also provide a made-to-order omelette bar which was fantastic. Liz was extremely attentive and kept our drinks full and our table neat the entire visit, even for a larger group. Liz is a rockstar! Our bartender, Shaina, was on her absolute A-game, this girl knows her stuff! Not only can she craft an incredible Old Fashioned, Shaina is also very knowledgable on wine and spirits, giving our group a small lesson at the table about the different characteristics of champagne, which we all found to be very intriguing. She was very friendly and made for a very enjoyable experience for the entire group. This really topped off my friend's birthday celebration. We couldn't have asked for a better first experience dining at Margaux, and we will definitely be making this one of our regular spots! read more

Christmas Brunch did not disappoint. The holiday buffet included traditional breakfast buffet items; custom omelette station, sausage, bacon, fresh fruit, yogurt,pastries etc... there was duck, prime rib, chicken & ham lunch/dinner dishes. Our server and all buffet attendants were polite and attentive. It's not a massive restaurant, and I was impressed for it being packed the noise level was not an issue at all. Complimentary Valet parking and the Starbucks inside the hotel where we got lattes to go made this a great start to my husband's & my Christmas Holiday. read more

So I finally got around to checking out Margaux after the redesign. I love the decor, but my husband and I came before the Hamilton show and our service was terrible. We were seated promptly for our 6pm reservation prior to the show and then waited 12 minutes before our waiter, Joe, finally arrived. No joke, we debated leaving and going elsewhere as the wait was long. Finally, our waiter arrived, made menu suggestions and we ordered our cocktails and mains (since we had plenty of time to review). Then we waited a good 25min prior to our our entrees arriving, which is ok but we actually got our food before our cocktails. I would have ordered wine with my food but at that point it was too late. I had the salmon Wellington, which was quite lovely and my husband had the steak au poivre, while good there was an awful lot of butter on top. Then our waiter was missing for some time. The table next to us had their waitress recite the specials which we had heard nothing about. My husband remarked he would have make a different selection had he known the specials. Then we asked someone else to get the bill so we could go elsewhere for a drink before the show, we were done with the terrible service. Disappointing. read more

The hostesses were great and the waitress started out very professional. But when bigger parties showed up she sort of checked on us less. The food was good. Flavour was delicious. But the portions were small and came back to my room and ordered hot wings and fries after spending a hundred and thirty bucks. read more

Excellent in all respects. Start to finish was all first class. Waiter was Brandon and he was one of best wait staff we have experienced. Was extremely knowledgeable of all cocktails, wine, and food. Was very attentive, but not overbearing. Made several recommendations and was spot on. Excellent wines by the glass. Food quality was one of best we have had in West Michigan.
