This seems to be the West Michigan thing nowadays. High end-ish steak joints looking to offer the Chicago steakhouse menu but with a come as you are, straight from the game (or the beach) attitude. That concept hasn't quite worked (yet) for me. Let me explain. When you go to a high end steak place like Bowdie's, Gene & Georgetti, Smith & Wollensky, etc., you also get a certain PRIDE from the staff. Scraping the crumbs from the tablecloth, serving the steak, refolding the napkin, and so on. It's not stuffiness or arrogance; it's a quiet but unmissable pride. It's a crispness in execution that says "THIS is our profession," and you are going to love what we do. With these new high-end/casual steak joints the pride is still missing. It feels too much like folks just getting cute with their concept. Or restaurateurs who dabble instead of owning their lane. I haven't seen the serious steakhouse bluebloods who live and breathe steak. There's nothing (so far) that convinces me that these people absolutely know what they're doing and that you can lock in for the steak of your life. Maybe we just got an off night. The execution was meh. Too many people in our party needed to have their steaks refired or redone entirely. The cuts of meat looked thin and flat. (And it's not the hill I'll die on, but purists might not enjoy having their filet mignon butterflied.) The lobster tail add-ons were puny, and the à la carte sides didn't portion up to their price. (Honestly, consider family style portions and go ahead and charge more.) Our server himself was cheerful and pleasant. He did what he could with what's available and worked to make things right. Drinks were fine, nothing special. Grateful for the chance to visit.

I came here for the first time recently for a girls night. It was the perfect spot for us, very casual laid back steak restaurant. For the price and quality I highly recommend. With my steak, side and cocktail and bruschetta app, it was under $65 with tip! One thing to note is that if you are starving, like we were, the food takes a minute to come out, so just keep that in mind. Other than that, I highly recommend and will definitely be going back on a date night! Another note is that they have very limited parking in their own parking lot, but there is a big lot across the street that many business use for public parking.

I kept forgetting to try this place because it is not downtown, but I will say that, overall, it is worth taking the trip 10-15 minutes north of downtown to Comstock Park! First, the prices are fair and the meat/protein seems well-sourced. The ambiance and interior decor is very classic modern steakhouse, but still casual enough for where it's located. We ordered the bruschetta appetizer, and it was very, very good - the focaccia-style bread was delicious, the tomatoes were fresh, and the goat cheese was a nice, unique touch. And it came on a BIG plate! My boyfriend's dad, who doesn't usually eat much of the appetizer, devoured this one. We also got a few pieces of complimentary bread and butter. I ordered the 8 oz Wagyu Zabuton (sourced from Wyoming), medium rare...it came more rare, but I still enjoyed the flavor and it wasn't too chewy, so I didn't say anything about it to our waiter. I swapped the regular potatoes for mashed sweet potatoes (they were sold out of the baked sweet potato), and it came with asparagus & a little parmesan for the veggie. The sauce for the steak (demi glace, I think?), was a little too much than what I needed, but not overpowering. My boyfriend ordered the Porterhouse special, which was 40 or 44oz on the bone, and he asked for brussel sprouts and asparagus with no sauce/toppings and no potatoes; his veggies had to be sent back and replaced since they still added the sauce and toppings, but it was fairly quick. My glass of Riesling white wine was only around $8, so really fair! I hope this restaurant continues to attract great business!!! A wonderful addition to W River Dr.

Let me start with the service. Kristina was amazing and made experience that much better. She went above and beyond to find my wife a few NA options to drink. Next the food. Wow, this place can go head to head with any high end steak house downtown or other big cities and the price points really do make it "casual." The filet was cooked perfectly and so tender I could cut it with a fork. Outstanding decor and setting. So happy this place opened we will return and definitely will bring visitors here for a lovely meal.

I wish I could give Prime Casual Steakhouse 6+ stars! Four of us enjoyed a magical evening celebrating several events last night. Our server Kaila was sweet and very helpful! We loved her. We started off with craft beer and wine all reasonably priced. The menu has several appetizers salads and entrees. The many steak offerings ranged in price from $28 to $80 for a tomahawk. Every entree comes with two sides. Most steak houses upcharge for sides which drives the price way up! Our steaks were grilled to perfection with a delicious seasoning/marinade. Two of us chose a baked potato and one chose mashed sweet potatoes. The asparagus and brussel sprouts were delicious. Each entree comes with roasted and marinated garlic cloves which were delightful and a nice surprise. My daughter chose the Mac and cheese saying it was the best ever. With the check came a salted caramel for each. We will absolutely go back and make it our special place.

This restaurant checks off all the boxes. Amazing quality food with an upscale feel that is delicious and doesn't break the wallet. My husband has been dying to check it out and it was entirely worth it. The dining room is quaint and lively. Staff is friendly and does t pass by your table without checking to see if you need anything. The menu has everything from onion rings to steaks, salmon and tons of delicious sides. My husband loved his filet and I loved the Mac n cheese and Brussels sprouts. We both got the wedge salad too which was huge, next time we will split it. Food came out very fast too! Overall amazing experience and we don't have a negative thing to say. We will be back often!

Surf and turf!

Best steak I've had in Grand Rapids! Visited the day before Valentines and they had a surf and turf special with a 6oz petite filet and lobster tail. Great food and great selection of wine and cocktails!

Wow!!!! What an amazing new find! Prime Casual Steakhouse opened about 4 weeks ago and is attached to and owned by the owner of Mill Creek Tavern. It's easy to pass up if you're driving by. When I walked in I was immediately greeted by three of the friendliest stuff members! I believe they were Dan, Jennifer, and John? I hope that's right. I was there right when they opened so there weren't many other customers in there. They helped me choose a wine and also my cut of steak and how I wanted it cooked. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and not at all pretentious. Because of this, I expected a mediocre steak. However, it was far from that. This was one of the best filets I have ever had. Perfectly cooked and juicy. My meal was served with delicious mashed potatoes and asparagus. I ended up having a lovely time and had enough to bring back to my hotel. I have already told others to give it a try. This place was great!!!

I would give 0 stars if I could. We had reservations after I called and asked if they had openings on the 31st. The lady on the phone (which I wish I would have gotten her name) said they were completely booked for the 31st but she said they were completely open for the 1st. I said great let's do a 7pm on the first, she wrote it in and gave me the reservation. The day of, I called almost 12 times from 4pm to 6pm to see and make sure they were open and they have my reservation. I wasn't sure if their phone was down or something was up but nobody had called me to tell me my reservation was otherwise cancelled or changed. So we ended up driving 35 minutes in a blizzard to Prime only to see that they pasted a paper sign saying closed due to mechanical issues. How ridiculous. No one called me to inform me? Whenever we go to Bowdies, or Ruth Chris, or Terra we have never had problems like this. I'm shocked. We were excited to try a new local spot. Now we never want to go back.

Lofted above is a great looking outdoors complete with heat lamps and a mini A framed covered area that can be rented for parties. We were greeted warmly by friendly staff and given a kids menu, draft and spirits menu, regular menu and restaurant week menu. Menus galore! We went with the 3 course meal (many items can be ordered on the regular menu) for $25. I ordered the tomato paprika soup and my husband got the split pea soup. Of the two, the split pea soup was the clear winner. Two kinds of pork (cubed and shredded), well balanced seasoning and texture married well to enhance a soup I've loved since childhood. I could've easily eaten a bowl for my meal. The accompanying homemade Dutch Rye Bread, though I'm sure it's authentic, I didn't care for. It was dense, soft and had an off putting flavor. The second course we had was equally delicious. My hubby had the beef and pork sausage overtop a bed of mashed potatoes with kale, onions and bacon. I loved the addition of kale and the sausage was tasty. Everything was well seasoned. My beef slow cooked with apples and beer was delicious. I wish it had been served with more beef. It would have been nice to have some bigger chunks of meat to dive into. The mashed potatoes they came with were good, but the potatoes with kale were the star between the two dishes. The kid's meals were also good. The hamburger had a nice smokey flavor with a tasty side of fries. My daughter didn't care for her Mac 'n cheese, but that's because it was too refined for her palette. The Gouda cheese was complimented by the egg noodles. The third course was dessert. I tried the restaurant Flip custard: Dutch custard, fruit compote, and topped with a dollop of Greek Yogurt. It came with a cute spoon that gave the perfect portions and the flavors all complemented each other well. I would order this again and again. It was a great balance of tangy, fruity and sweet. My husband had the stroopwafle icecream. It was also good, and came with a cute mini stroopwafle. I washed all this down with their Bier Distillery Lager and tried a flavored banket spirit. This restaurant originally was just a beer and specialty liquor spot. I love that they now serve food, because that was the highlight of our evening. I wish this establishment was closer to our home, but perhaps will come back when the weather is nicer to enjoy the outdoor patio. Definitely come and check out this The Bier Distillery for yummy Dutch inspired food and drink! Worth the drive.

I ordered the Verboden which had apple brandy so delicious. It's fall in a glass and then the butterbier rum butterscotch cream soda and whipped cream. My sister enjoyed the almond joy. We split a burger with carmelized onions pickles and paprika mayo and had a garden salad with dill pickle vinaigrette They have so much to offer and it so unique.

It was clean inside, bathrooms were freezing and the inside itself was small. The parking sucked and for handicapped people would not be good at all. They did have a ramp but no close handicap places so we had to walk across a very slippery parking lot. The parking was very limited. This alone would not be a reason for returning. The mushrooms were huge and lightly breaded. They were good but I would prefer the smaller size. Personal preference and again they were good. The Reuben sandwich was very good (husband had it) and up sized to fries which were also good. I had the pot roast sandwich with waffle chips. The sandwich was amazing (I added onions & gr peppers). The waffle fries were evidently the bottom of the bag because they were all small pieces which I couldn't even hold onto to dip in the French onion dip which I paid extra for. The wet burrito was very good (son in law had this). The pasta carbonara was not good (daughter had) and the garlic bread came with a large black hair across it. The employees were very apologetic and of course by the time she got her new pasta we were all done eating & freezing. It was her birthday meal so it was disappointing. They did comp her meal so there is that. All in all it was good not great and did I mention FREEZING? The server was very slow in coming around and we had to track her down to get our check. She was pleasant as were the other employees we came into contact with. Because of location & parking we will not return but the sandwiches would be worth it if it were not for that.
