We've been with Dr. Maria for nine years and have three kiddos under her care. Every experience we've had with her has been supportive and thoughtful. Dr. Maria is unlike any other pediatrician. She gives out her personal phone number, and you can contact her at any time. This is especially important when you have a baby you're worried about in the middle of the night. Her availability has saved us from unnecessary ER visits many times! She also makes house calls for the first few newborn visits, which is such a gift in those early months of parenthood. She's exactly the person you want in your corner as a new mom. Her office is welcoming, kid-focused, and warm. A special touch we love is her well-trained dog who joins visits--this has made vaccines so much easier for our kids! I cannot recommend Dr. Maria enough. Dr Hanson was my daughter's pediatrician for 13 years. Her father was the one who took her to all…read moreher medical appointments because he had a short commute (mine was 90+ min one way) and he had a flexible schedule. Every year since she was 4 years old, teachers would say she needed to be evaluated; she might have a learning disability. We had dedicated parent-teacher conferences to tell us about her school struggles. Multiple times every year I asked her father to set up an appointment to see Dr Hanson for an evaluation. He'd set the appointment, take our daughter and say Dr Hanson said everything was fine. Fast forward to when she was 15. A friend told me to look up adhd in the DSM5. My daughter checked every box. I made an appt with Dr Hanson and the first thing I said when I went to his office was "I think my daughter has ADHD." His answer was "Oh thank god you figured it out." Turns out my ex was lying to everyone the whole time - Dr Hanson, me, our daughter's teachers. Dr. Hanson advised me to use his out-of-network developmental pediatrician to get her evaluated, $6k. I thought it was crazy since we were paying for insurance. I called insurance and every dev pediatrician had a 1+ year wait list. Some were so full there was no wait list. Eventually, I found the in network developmental pediatrician and requested Dr Hanson send a referral to her. He reiterated seeing his out of network friend. I said this developmental pediatrician was in network. This was around March. I waited a month, called Dr. Hanson's office multiple times. They told me to call insurance. I called insurance. After a few days, it seems the office sent in a referral with my daughter's name but no developmental pediatrician's name. I called Dr. Hanson's office and they said they'd resend the paperwork. I was again advised to go with Dr. Hanson's out of network friend. Another month went by, Dr. Hanson's office told me to call insurance. Insurance said this time there was a referral to the developmental pediatrician, but there was no patient name. This reeks of gatekeeping and sabatoge and possibly some other odd dealings where physicians might be getting kickback from friends. After 13 years, I switched pediatricians. It was an absolute cluster.

If ever my daughter is ill I'm usually able to be seen same day. If I am not see by Dr. Mostaghasi I get to see the NP, Bridget. Bridget is also great. It can take a looooong time to receive…read moreassistance at the front desk when only one person is handling everything (checking in & out, referrals, phone calls, paperwork, etc.), and I've stood there waiting for up to 13 minutes to simply check in. Not while Jennifer was there, however, because she's AWESOME! While we like Dr. Wagner, he failed to diagnose an appendix issue with our 11 year old (April 2013) with symptoms that continued and then escalated to require an emergency surgery (August 2013). For our newborn's circ. (Sep 2014), they insisted that I not be present for the surgery, for many reasons they came up with on the fly, to the point of nearly ushering me out of the room. All went well until we walked to the car... he screamed while buckling his carseat and literally ALL the way home!! What happened to the pain injection?? The procedure from start to finish took less than 15 minutes so I know it doesn't wear off THAT quickly... I think the nurse either forgot or chose to skip it, poor baby. After all, he couldn't tell me if she did it or not. I called the advice nurse from the car (I was freaking out a little), and was told to reapply the dressing of gause/ Vaseline when we got home. Once home, I opened his diaper (he immediately stopped crying) and found NOTHING!! The nurse hadn't dressed the wound at all!! So his diaper had been rubbing against it the whole time :( that's ridiculous!! And worse, they could have told me about the option for dressing it before I left, I shouldn't have had to call. The "Care After" printout also didn't mention this. Granted, the method used (Plastibell) doesn't REQUIRE a dressing, but if it hurts babies without it, then why not? Anyway, those are the only 2 issues we've had and I don't know that things would have turned out differently at another Dr.'s office. After all, they're all just "practicing" right?? ;) On the up side, the ladies are really nice and they're very good over the phone. They recently added an advice nurse to their staff. They have also been able to give same-day appointments when needed, and/ or move up my appointment time since I was already in the area. Hence, 3 stars instead of only 2.

I have taken my kid to at least a dozen GI doctors and most were either inexperienced or dismissive. Dr. Jeiven figured out his problem on day one. She is thorough and gives a substantial amount of time to the patient. She asks the right kind of questions and makes recommendations quickly and her office gets the ball rolling--no wait and no anxiety. If you are worried about your kid's GI issues and have been frustrated with the unavailability of elite doctors at Sutter or Stanford and LPCH, don't wait-- get your kiddos to see Dr. Jeiven and you will be happy that you did that. I do not understand why the Bay Area has so many overworked and unavailable pediatric specialty doctors who do not care about the urgency of their patients' issues. Dr. Jeiven is not at all like that. While I am sure she's super busy too! But once you make an appointment, she gives her 100% attention to solve the problem. She has a wry sense of humor--keeps a straight face and says hilarious things. Great bedside manners are a plus.
