Their pupusas are cheap and delicious and usually keep good if you don't finish them in one sitting. The reason for the loss of a star is the service. The lady handling to go orders has no customer service skills. She stands there, and stares at you while you make your order. She doesn't try to engage and seems like she hates being there. The phones take a while to answer or they don't answer at all. The hours are also very short, with days closing at 7pm. The interior could be clean, but overall is decent enough and doesn't instill any ideas of being dirty. Some restaurants around this area are much less well kept than here! The little mini-market has plenty of little Salvadorean and Honduran treats! They have services to send money back home, a staple you'd see in any Central American store. Overall a great little restaurant, but it could be a little nicer and more welcoming, but delicious food makes up for it.

The pupusas were extremely bland. The service missed the mark as well. Staff seemed as if they really didn't want you to be there. And there was absolutely no urgency for anything. Dishes came out periodically with having to ask for an update on them. It seems like it could be a lively place but as I looked around most of the patrons were just waiting around the same for their food. Maybe the kitchen staff was having a bad day. Either way I was disappointed because I really had been looking forward to coming to this place but not sure if I'd be back anytime soon. Also the parking situation was a bit hectic.

The manager was also friendly and welcoming, stopping by to check in on us. The food itself was exceptional and truly authentic. While a torta is what people recommended, my mind immediately went to tacos when I saw that option. As you all probably know with me, I'm a sucker for any dish that has the word taco in it. Pivoting to those, I decided on a trio of the Taco Chilango (w/ carnitas), the pastor taco, and the taco gringa. These concoctions are out of this world with the combination of ingredients, tenderness and flavors of the meats, and the consistency of the warm tortilla. The crema on top of these is the perfect final touch. After devouring these, I can only imagine what the torta tastes like! Definitely next time! This is not a restaurant, but a food truck…read more My mother-in-law and wife were craving pupusas, but being new to San Antonio, we did not know the in and outs of pupuserias and so we decided on Pupusas Machado. When we arrived, we expected a restaurant, but found a food truck. Sadly, this is only to go as there is no seating to eat there. The pupusas were a lot smaller than we hard originally expected coming from California and having a regular spot that always gave us oversized pupusas. But don't let the small size fool you, the recipe they had was awesome! Their curtido (pickled salad) was arguably the best I've had yet! The hours are indeed weird, as it opens from 6pm to 1am. There is not really a parking spot while waiting for the food, but you can park in front of the food truck/cart. During the earlier times, this can be a busy street, so be mindful as you may miss the entrance. I would suggest calling to place an order, as larger orders may take longer to cook. This is for sure our go to pupuseria!
