My review of Marian's Catering will be different from all other reviews that I've written. It will be a cumulative review since they started doing order on-line foods for pick-up. They started doing this just around the time covid-19 restrictions came about in mid March 2020. I remember well when the first time I ate foods ordered from Marian's Catering. This was in the late 1960s after a funeral at Leeward Cemetary in Pearl City when they had a place to sit down and eat. All these decades and I didn't know until I saw a Hawaii News Now video I believe talking to the owners of Marian's Catering and Dot's Restaurant. Yes, it was explained that Marian's Catering was the catering side of the business while Dot's Restaurant was the sit-down restaurant side! When you see the maps of the locations or go there in person, you now know they are located right next to each other on Mango Street in Wahiawa. When covid-19 restrictions were enforced, I must have online ordered two times and sometimes three times per week for well over a year! The only person I remember until this day was Adrienne (sp?) for she was always cheery and a pleasant person to talk to when she delivered the foods to us customers waiting in the parking stalls. They had a lot of good plate lunches for cheap, and I mean cheap, cheap, cheap! I believe their 3-piece fried chicken with maki and cone sushi with ume nori rice ball was just $6.50 (it is now at $9.75). Their chicken thighs were ginormous in size! They had fried rice with eggs, meats for just $6! Those fried rice plates I knew were priced too low for the amount they gave - no lie ! Surely enough, few things they offered back then are no longer available (like the fried rice plate). They were tinkering with whether to sell ice cakes - one time they offered it to customers if they did a certain thing prior to getting there and in turn, would be provided an ice cake piece. In this instance, it was about 2 or 3 months down the road when I asked what happened to that plan to sell? Adrienne asked me if I wanted one, and she gave me one ice cake manuahi (I dunno, maybe because at that time I was going there almost three times per week - which led to my weight gain during the pandemic). I thought they could have sold that ice cake for at least $1.50/$1.75 --- it was ONO ! Hey Scott, sell that ice cake! Over the few years, I have tried almost everything with some plates being hits and some being misses. The hits were the fried chicken, the fried rice, two entree option plates, their long rice (taste soo old school- so delicious)! I cannot believe that their pork guisantes was better tasting and using LESS salt than Elena's Restaurant! Hmm, gotta mean have some Filipino men or women working here! The day-old scuffins (scone/muffin - think it was a 4 pack) were sold at 1/2 off! The misses were that Firecracker Chicken I think the name was, like 6 pieces of small mochiko chicken with some squirts of mayo/siracha that cost $15 which I could not fathom why that expensive. I never bought that plate again. I noticed on Sundays if I ordered foods, mistakes would happen --- like one time when the mac/potato salad was entirely missing its mayonnaise, or the person who normally did the andagi did not come in that day, so someone was trying their hand at making the andagi (at least they warned me when they came to my car to tell me so) and that it may not turn out as good. True, it was not as it looked like clumps of dough that were deep fried and not fried at the proper temperature as it was soo oily. When I got home to try that andagi, it was practically a throw away as they were way too oily. Anyhow, they have cut off many items that were expense eaters or not popular and they should so that Marian's Catering can survive! Yes, I don't come as often now compared to 2020/2021 as other places have reopened. But remember to try Marian's Catering ---you have to order ONLY by on-line process and give AT least one hour (or you can select a time slot when to pick up) ... Once you go into the small parking lot (you can even park in the handicapped stall as no one is supposed to get out of their vehicles anyway) as they will deliver the foods to you in your vehicle upon calling them on arrival. By the way, they have a rewards program that when you get 100 points, you can redeem it for 10% off on your next order ! In my youth, I only knew this business just for doing funeral caterings, lol ! They currently provide catering for the Chiefs Luau (at the Kapolei waterpark) and the Mauka Warrior Luau. They also did Germaine's Luau for over 25 years until a change in plans by Germaine's. Anyway, I now know better and glad to be a customer since early 2020 just after the pandemic struck and this on-line ordering commenced! As they say, support local businesses! read more

We ordered from here for Christmas and I'm sorry that this review didn't come sooner! The pre-orders for Christmas didn't start till about a week after Thanksgiving. We were afraid that we wouldn't make it in time, but we got lucky and secured a spot. Ordered a bunch of the comfort foods from fried noodles to cucumber namasu and fried chicken and scheduled a curbside pick-up time. On the day of pick-up, we got there and it was very organized, I was impressed! There were numbered stalls up front, with 1 person checking everyone in. Another individual came with a cart and all our items and within 10 minutes we were out of there. Based on this experience, I would definitely order from them again! read more

Thanksgiving Package Pick Up 2020. GO EARLY ! line is long for pick up. This review is just for this pick up. The directions given online is NOT correct. Be aware that its at the old DOT's location and there are no yellow flags as stated and you will not be parking in the lot. This is a drive through to park in 6 stalls AND you do not need to call the number as stated in their directions to let the attendant know you are parked and waiting. Calling the number will get you their directory. I am a patient person but I get annoyed with given instructions that are completely different. During this Covid Pandemic, I am very appreciative of the safety precautions that Marian's Catering has implemented. Come early to pick up your meal package as it's a bit of a wait but well worth it! I very excited and anticipating my 'onolicious meal while waiting in this line. Again, this review is just on this pick up so you are aware on what to expect. Happy Thanksgiving! UPDATE AFTER THANKSGIVING MEAL: Unfortunately, i wouldn't order this package again. The white gravy and dry stuffing wasn't to my liking. I like brown gravy and stuffing that sticks together made with turkey drippings and goodies. The mashed potatoes is the highlight of this meal. I doctored up the stuffing and made my own gravy and everything taste good with good gravy so this Thanksgiving meal wasn't all that bad. read more

I grew up with Marian's Catering for "funeral food." Sadly in the last two years, I worked with Anna to cater two funerals and she's been wonderful both times. With Covid-19 this year, Marian's came in clutch with bentos. I chose the two-meat combo bento with fish tempura (fave!) and teri chicken which came with rice, choice of veggie (corn) and their Famous shoyu long rice. Marian's delivered right on time to the chapel as expected, complete with individually wrapped utensils as well as a tartar sauce packet inside each bento. I also ordered some keiki bentos which are smaller, cheaper and more fitting for picky little people. Absolutely the way to go! Marians is very good, efficient and timely. In addition the value to product is in line. It was really nice to find a business that provides a great value during these difficult times when most businesses seem to be increasing prices, And understandably so given our economy. But again it was nice to find the value that we found with Marians Catering. Unfortunately, my mother passed away recently. Funeral services are a little bit different today with Covid and all that. Therefore at the suggestion of the church, we Opted for Bentos to be passed out after the burial, versus having a large gathering. We ordered 200 Bentos to be delivered by noon in Lai'e. Marians was the only place willing to come that far on a Monday afternoon - I have to say I am glad they are the ones we found. They were timely and efficient in delivery and the food was very good. The Bento was reasonably priced at a little Over $8 and the amount of food represented a decent meal. Keep in mind there are different Bento's which range in price so you would be able To create what suits your needs! I highly recommend Marian's for any large gathering. Fried chicken is ono and crispy. Marians noodles are ono too. Took off 1 star because I just found out that their fish tempura is not Mahi-mahi. They told me it's been like that for years. They used to use cod (which I'm ok with), but they couldn't tell me what fish they're using. It's probably Swai, which is from Vietnam or similar. Try reading about Swai before u buy the fish tempura. Lots of other businesses are using Swai or Basa. (Same thing) Of course Swai is cheaper than Mahi but I would pay a higher price for Mahi. read more

Recently catered for Mother's Day. Ordered the International package (for 10 people) which included white rice, potato mac salad, pork long rice, sweet and sour spareribs, fried chx and fish tempura, maki sushi/inari. Added on ala carte the teri beef, shrimp tempura and fried noodles. When you arrive to the lot to pick up, there's an attendant that will get some info from you and have you park in a numbered stall. I understand they were busy with a lot of orders, however, there were cars who arrived after us with the same pick up time and they all were helped before us. We were the last car to leave the lot :/ No biggie, I guess. As for the food, everyone's favorite was the sweet and sour spareribs! It was flavorful and the meat was tender, not dry and stringy like I've tasted at other deli's or okazuyas. The pork long rice was good too, but disappointed that they no longer add watercress. I love watercress, but of course that's my own personal preference. My family's least favorites were the fried chx (dry), teri beef (just your average teri beef), fried noodles (way too much fresh cilantro)... don't get me wrong.. I'm a cilantro fan, but most of my family is not. So if you're not into cilantro don't get the fried noodles. Or maybe you can call and ask them not to add it in if that's possible. The international package for 10, plus all the ala carte stuff was just enough for my family. Don't count on too much leftovers for the following day. read more

We used their catering services and the food was amazing, the service impeccable and ordering and adjusting the menu a breeze. The staff are so kind and polite it made the wedding so easy! Like many other businesses Marians Catering was affected by the shutdowns due to the COVID-19 but like the old saying goes "every cloud has a silver lining" and the good news is one can still get the same great food as pickup! I've always been a big fan of their fried chicken and the skin is always nice and crispy with just enough salt. They have a website set up at https://my-site-103098.square.site/ where one can see all the great food (sweet sour pork, pork guisantes, shrimp tempura, etc) that can be ordered for pickup. Just a few things to keep in mind is their selection depends on availability so if something you want is out of stock, give it a few days and check back or call them up. The folks who answer the phone are very helpful. One think I really like is their MCFried pack and MCPack. Both are great for pickup and go! The MCFried is a fried chicken thigh with a musubi with ume. The MCPack is for healthier appetites with 3 fried chicken thighs, two maki sushi pieces, one inari sushi pieces and a musubi with ume. But my favorite is their Maki Sushi and it comes in a roll, cut into 8 pieces. Great for munching as a quick snack or part of a meal. Check them out! read more

So happy that Marian's had Thanksgiving meals to go and at a very reasonable price. It was nice to be able to order from a local business. The staff is always friendly and very apologetic for the wait on Thanksgiving day. Unfortunately, I have to agree with others that their directions could have been better and they could have done better planning with limiting the number of slots per pick-up time. One of the workers said that most of their orders asked for 10am pickup - thus the backlog. The food - should have been advertised as for 4 not 5 (even after I added on th ham package) - left overs were not existant - and the serving of cranberry only fed 2. The quality was ok - turkey gravy was way too thick, cranberry was out of a can, mashed potatoe out of a box, and the stuffing, well, let's just say that it looked like someone just broke up a few slices of bread and maybe wet it with a scant of bacon grease. We had to supplement and spruce up the stuffing a lot. Luckily my husband is a great cook and worked miracles on it. I don't think I'd order this package from them again, but they are still a great business and know their other food is pretty solid comfort foods. read more

I seriously forgot how much I dread planning events, since it's been 3 years since I had to plan my wedding. We never had a big first birthday party for our youngest son, so we figure that we throw a 'kind of big' party for his second birthday. When you leave your husband in charge of the food, cause that's the least the he could do since you were planning the rest of the party...that allowed him to decide too late on our first choice of caterers & have us scrambling for another one to be available in three weeks of your event. Luckily, we came upon Marians Catering - I know Marians as the 'funeral food' company, cause it seems as if every single funeral that I've been to that serves food after the service and burial, always caters through them. But for the amount of food that you get for the price, I understood why. I always enjoyed their food whenever I did have it, so I had no doubts that the food would be good. When I first called Marians to inquire about their menu and availability, the girl who answered was really helpful with fitting us into their schedule on such short notice, as well as answering any questions that I had. We paid almost half of our total to secure our date, and paid the balance in full a few days later. The day before the party, I got a phone call from them to confirm our menu, date and place of our event to ensure that everything was in place. Since we catered for 100 people, we got free delivery...all the way from Wahiawa to Ewa Beach. Delivery time was set at 11AM & they were already there by 10AM. The guy who delivered as punctual with the delivery and made everything as smooth as can be. We hired Marians Catering for my mom's 100th birthday party. I have not been this impressed with a company in a long time. I emailed them on a Tuesday night and they responded promptly on Wednesday morning. They provided recommendations on what serving sizes to order for 100 people. Marian's Catering has ALWAYS been one of FAVORITES. I know they've done NUMEROUS caterings over the years, including at the Japanese Cultural Center. Whenever there was catering, and GOOD FOOD, you can bet it was Marian's. We catered my 50th Birthday party, and got LOTS OF GREAT COMMENTS. We also catered my dog's birthday party, and the neighbors REALLY enjoyed it. Their maki-sushi has got to be ONE OF THE BEST.
