I haven't been here in years. Was headed to workout, so figured I'd eat something small. I ordered a half pound container of stew, which was two small pieces of meat, a tiny piece of potato, and two small pieces of carrots. No rice. Just the stew. I was floored when the cashier said it was $14 and change. Everyone knows the 1/2 pound poke containers, and know how small it is. We're talking beef stew. NOT poke! So I'm figuring, they charge about $30 a lb? I can't believe what was in the container weighed even 1/2 pound. Cashier suggested the mini plate which was $13 and change. One scoop rice and about 10 chopped pieces of lettuce as the salad. Oh, and the stew dumped on the mini container from the half pound container. I should've went to Ige's down the street. The stew was salty. One good thing was the beef was soft and not tough. Cashier was nice too. This is the only reason for 2 stars. Hard pass on the prices here with average tasting stew. Paid cash to avoid any 3% service charge! read more

Haven't been here since in a long time. Generally traffic makes it difficult to exit so I forego retrying. Today I decided to try picking up dinner since traffic was great! Luckily I had cash as there is a 3% credit card fee. Best to get set combo plates or food is charged by the pound. Forgot to snap a pick of the poke counter as the inside is very tiny and didn't want to block the counter. Poke looks fresh...maybe next time. Although it was nice to try, I found some of the items were a bit salty. Surprisingly I enjoyed a fish with mushroom offering that I thought was mushroom lasagna with white sauce. Well since the certain food stores had poi and lomi lomi salmon on sale this week my husband wanted to eat hawaiian food for dinner. So I made the suggestion to get the poi lomi lomi salmon at the food market and get some poke and lsu lau from marujyu market. We ordered the pork lau lau (pic not taken) and some poke also not taken. When we got home and had it for dinner the pork laulau was delicious lots of pieces of butterfish and pork and fat and laulau leaves. The poke was missing something. We ordered spicy ahi and limu ahi. The limu ahi was frozen fish and lacking something maybe limu kohu or salt. The spicy ahi my husband said was ok. The haupia pieces was big but lacking the coconut milk taste had shredded coconut in it. The peanut butter cookie was hard but had a good taste. Sorry no pics. But at least the staff was friendly and helpful like the cashier in the front. Sorry but maybe others may like the poke stuffs. read more

Totally disappointed! Bought cold laulaus to heat up for dinner. The leaf was not cooked all the way through (even though I steamed it at home), the meat was so tough, and the butter fish was overwhelming. We had to cater an event of about 70 people and decided to go with Marujyu Market because we've heard good things. They were really helpful with going over the menu hand helping us work within our budget with substitutions of their sample menu. Just so you know there has been price increases over their website. The Party Buffet Menu is no $14.95 per person and the minimum delivery spend is $2k. They helped plan/determine a time for us to pick up based on the time we were thinking about eating. All of their dishes came in giant foil pans with wax paper and foil on top. Really easy to transport from their location, it was all ready at the designated time that we requested to pick up. I think of everything on their party buffet menu the peanuts we substituted instead of the tossed salad was the real winner with the sesame chicken being a close second. I think some people felt there was too much chicken skin but the chicken itself was good. Lots of attendees had inquired where we got our food from so that's always a good thing. read more

Best Hawaiian food bar none on the west side of Aiea, especially their kalua pig. However I still need to go to Helenas in Kalihi, that is the OG spot. I always get the #1 Hawaiian plate or kalua pig ala carte and make my own rice at home. Their plate lunch specials are good too. Worth driving out to this local kamaaina establishment and my wallet is not taking a big hit on prices and my cravings are met fully when hawaiian food is needed and wanted. My youtube channel viewer recommended this place so I decided to have an early lunch here and tried out their oyster chicken and "WOW" it was so good. They have many other local and hawaiian food and I definitely recommend this place as their oyster chicken was terrific. Today for lunch i wanted to treat my husband with a Hawaiian plate lunch. The food is usually good there; today I've experienced the most terrible service by the woman at the service counter who seemed to be upset at the world. She snapped at a co-worker about some salad, then when I asked if I could change my plate from 2 choices to 3, she very rudely said "NO, IT'S portioned for 2 choices already! I was shocked that someone in a service industry could be so rude, Even the cashier seemed to shake her head when hearing that response. Seriously the customer service was horrible with that woman at the counter today at about 11:00 am. The cashier was polite and had a very animated shirt on that lightened the mood in that place. Come on Marujyu where's the aloha ? The customer service should match your product. I hardly ever write reviews , but hope this brings awareness so it doesn't happen again . read more

I had a craving for Hawaiian food last Friday, so I stoped at Marujyu. I had the Laulau plate with Lomi Samoan and Poi with a side of Poke. The Laulau was meaty with just the right amount of seasoning and the Lomi Salmon went really well with the Poi. I also like the fact that they have so many different types of Poke to choose from. I had the Spicy Shoyu Poke, which was very fresh and tasty. I also had a piece of Haupia. This historic markets location was actually where palama store is now in Waimalu. I never really came here till I used to frequent the laundry mat and when I was owner for Dave's around the corner. This hole in the wall has local food, fresh poke and lots of aloha given! Located in Aiea off Moanalua road they have a parking lot which is shared with other business. They are known for the very good and tasty pokes and Hawaiian plates, but today I went in to pick up some of their poke items. The fresh octopus poke is the way it was prepared with inamona (kuldip nut), limokohu (seaweed), octopus liver, hawaiian salt. Very good and tasty. I was ono for some lau lau and had errands to run in the Pearl City area. I didn't really wanna drive to my usual spot in Waipahu so I decided I'd pick up food from Marujyu. I know their food is good from long ago when we had catered from them for my eldest son's 1st bday luau. That experience went really well for us. I believe I gave a head count, paid per person depending on which food choices I wanted and everything was set. There's probably a deposit to be made in order to secure the food for the date. I just went down to pay for everything since the day of the party they delivered it to our location. The trays were packed up real nice in individual coolers. I just had to bring the coolers back the next day. There was way more than enough food for the party and for everyone to take home! As for my visit today, I just came for the lau lau and some squid luau. As far as I could see, the items were purchased by the pound. I decided one lau lau piece per person, one pound of squid luau, $9 worth of dried aku (Mr G's stuff, idk what the weight was), and 1/2 lb of chicken long rice. My total was just under $70. I guess for a family of 7 that really wasn't bad. Granted we had to cook our own rice, but no biggie to save a buck. Looking at the hot food items, they got some really yummy looking dishes. Curry, shoyu chicken, kalua cabb and all that good stuff. The lau lau, it was good but not as satisfying as my go to. It wasn't dry, but it wasn't as fatty as I like. Others would probably not care for all that fat and oils, I appreciate that about a lau lau. The squid luau was awesome. Huge chunks of squid. Not over powering on the coconut milk and it had substance to it. I hate when squid luau is all runny, just no. That's all I had to eat, my kids and I enjoyed it. I know for sure this will be my guy's go to spot for dried aku. It wasn't all dried out and chewy. It was a bit too salty for my liking, but perfect for him. Overall, I have nothing but good stuff to say about this place. Hawaiian food will always be on the pricey side, that's just how it is. So, food for value is spot on here. One of the most ono Hawaiian food I've had in a while! My mom & I went to Pearlridge and stopped by Marujyu Market for the first time to check them out. I had seen them on Instagram a few times so I was curious to see what kinds of foods they had - didn't know it was such a large selection! We got the Lau Lau, Kalua Pork, and Chicken Long Rice Plate ($12.45) and Lomi Salmon, Squid Luau, and Kalua Pork Plate ($9.30) with a side of poi (extra charge). The kalua pork was AHHMAZING. Perfectly salted, so soft and tender, and barely any fatty pieces. The lau lau was perfectly cooked too, with soft leaves and a super tender chicken inside. We also got to sample some other foods, like the Shiitake Mushroom Basa (Saturday Daily Special), and wow that as amazing. The basa and Shiitake soak up the super creamy sauce, which I thought was some type of heavy cream base, but it was actually a mayo and oyster sauce cream! This was the first time I, a strong hater of mayo, was able to enjoy it without even noticing the stomach-wrenching taste of plain mayo. The pickled garlic was crunchy and salty, and the owner, Jim, told us that they soak it in water first to take that raw bite out of it that most places still have left lingering in their pickled garlic. THE BEST THING WE ATE: WOW. Okay, before you think I'm a boring person with boring taste, let me tell you that you can't judge me until you've tried it. WOW. The BOILED PEANUTS ARE TO DIE FOR. They are crunchy (not mushy like other places I've gotten them from), salted, and they're seasoned with anise, giving it a nice flavor. I was finally able to get to Marujyu market. When I was around it, I was usually on the wrong side of the road but today was the day! I was finished punishing myself on the driving range and it's a couple of right turns away from Newtown driving range. Inside was nice and clean and I was surprised as I thought it was a market that sells the usual snacks etc but this was more like pupu and poke etc. Nice service, nice selection of products including boiled peanuts, poke, beef stew etc. but the real reason I have been wanting to come is because of the lau lau. They are always near the top when it comes to lau lau. So I picked up 3 and went home to eat one. It's very neatly packed and the couple of carry bags were separated by cold and hot items. I also got boils peanuts and tako poke. I was so excited to try this lau lau. Well the first thing is that it is an ok size. I remember reading that these were large but no... just ok normal size. I dug in and there was a huge piece of fat. Of course you want fat but this one was rather large, pure fat. I found the pork and the fish to be ok. The pork was not as tender as I would have liked. The fish was stuck to the pork. The flavor was good. I think as of now, the king or queen is Helena's with Young's fish market a close second. My go to is Young's with their awesome lau lau. Big, flavorful, open and easy parking! As for Marujyu, this lau lau is good. The service is good. Nice place!!!! read more
