My only real problem with this place is the pricing. $32 for one fella to get a soda, queso and entree. They charge $3 for chips and salsa which every other Mexican joint hands out for free. No loss leaders here I guess. The queso was not even hot enough, it was coagulating before I got to even dip a chip in it. My entree was very good though, with generous portions. We stopped here coming into town and it was a fair meal. The menu is a lot smaller than the standard Mexican restaurant as they don't offer the normal staples like fajitas and nachos. It's mostly burritos and enchiladas. The tortilla chips were served with two salsas, one regular and once spicy, but they were both pretty bland. The tortilla chips themselves were pretty basic. I ordered the Macho Burrito with pulled chicken and it was ok. You get a choice of beans or rice and I chose the beans. The beans and the burrito were also pretty bland and basic. They did give a nice sized portion. All in all, it was an ok experience and it did do the job in filling us up for a meal. read more

Have eaten at Maria's many times over the years at her numerous previous locations. She has finally found a worthy nest for her quality offerings. This was our first meal at her new digs, and the food, service, and facility were all greatly improved. I had the Enchilada Rancheros, an item not on the web menu. It was an open-faced enchilada on three tortillas and stuffed with beef and fresh veggies. Very, very good. Mi hermosa esposa had an enchilada and tostada plate. She was happy. Decided to give Maria's a try. I order a combo plate with a taco, tamale and an enchilada. Mom ordered a macho burrito. The entrees were good, nice large portions, hot platters delivered to the table with a smile. We also ordered chips and salsa, the standard order comes with a hot and mild salsa. The hot had some kick to it and the mild had good flavor, just no substance to either - they were just really runny and needed more chunky veggies to them. After several reviews of this restaurant as the most authentic mexican place in Great Falls, we decided to give it a try. My "go to" meal if on the menu is Mole. It gives me a sense of how well they understand mexican cuisine. As soon as the plate was put down I could tell something was off. The menu said "boneless chicken cooked in a sweet spicy mexican sauce". I have experienced both dark chocolate mole (a little spicier) and the peanut butter mole (a little sweeter). This was neither. It was small strips of chicken breast (I imagine what they put in the enchilada) in a tomato broth. There was no flavor to the broth but it was red, so I assumed tomato. Mole sauce is typically thicker and coats the chicken. We asked and while the servers were new and weren't really sure about the dish, one told us that the cook ran out of the mole sauce and used another. This is what was really frustrating. If you were out of the sauce, let me know so I can pick another menu item. Don't try to pass off broth as a mole sauce and insult my intelligence as a diner. read more

Unfortunately with being understaffed the service is where my 3 stars comes in. I see them trying desperately to serve and take care of everyone, but customers do get forgotten about. This is the best Mexican food in Great Falls. I wasn't expecting much, but I am so happy I came here. It is attached to a bar, but one section is sort of separated and family friendly. The decor is basic, but everything is spotless and clean. The service was really good. The waitress was friendly and checked on us several times. I had a Mucho Burrito and my husband had the enchiladas. Both tasted great. It was fresh and hot. I will definitely be back here soon! read more

DO NOT order the Carne Asada! It is the toughest, blandest, non-authentic "shoe leather" quality meat I have ever tasted...or tried to. Real Carne Asada is marinated to tenderize and infuse flavor to the meat, then grilled or seared to impart a charred flavor. Maria's was only treated with a little salt and was so tough that it was hard to even cut through. When I questioned the cook, she said "that's how I do it in Montana - I have done this for 25 + years and never had a complaint." No offer of any compensation for $40 worth of inedible food. Since when does a Mexican restaurant charge for a few chips and watered-down, tomato-pasty salsa? Such a disappointment and waste of money. Never again. read more

This isn't it. - Chips are store-bought and stale, reheated many times. - Salsa is watery and weak and served in soup bowls and small ramekins. - Shredded chicken tacos were served on store-bought shells and literally had no seasonings and were served with hot, wilted lettuce that made me gag. - Shredded beef taquitos had a weird smell/taste... like old meat that had been burned, maybe the oil they cooked it in was old too. - The refried beans were served looking like they had sat under a lamp for at least an hour and the rice was tasteless, dry and crunchy. Maria's Mexican restaurant was a disappointment in their new location. Waiter offered chips and dip as is generally the custom free in Mexican restaurants but after they came and we seen the small portion of chips like a half a cup or a cup for three dollars and 4 ounces of sauce picante sauce for one dollar we refused it and send it back. The waitress confused my order as a specified a beef Chile Rellano and it was delivered with no beef at all. Soupy refried beans, tasteless rice. The beef enchilada had maybe one tablespoon on ground meat. This is a one and done for us. My partner had to stop at Taco John s to finish his lunch as his was too small to call a lunch. Ok I don't normally write reviews because I'm LAZY AF and a picture speaks a thousand words but I got too excited when the food arrived that I ate it before taking a picture.... Came here with friends and we are all glad we FINALLY found the closest Mexican restaurant that reminds us of home! We had 2 from Cali, 2 from Navada and 1 from New Mexico and all over us loved this place! The decor was classic hole in the wall deco with ponchos and sombreros and the staff was very friendly and funny. The location gives you a nice downtown vibe as long as you don't leave the little strip. Parking is free after 5pm so it's a great spot for dinner and drinks at the bar in the back. They don't skimp on portions here when you order a plate with rice and beans it is full. If your food comes with Guacamole it's a real scoop of guac not just a small dab of green goo that you think might be guacamole but it's to little to tell and you shamefully eat it because it cost you and extra $2. It all came out very fast and hot as... heck. The burritos in the back of the menu are HUUGE and definitely hard to finish in one sitting but so worth eating the next day. Everything tasted fresh and nothing was soggy, runny, crusty or felt like just some fast food chain unlike other restaurants here in GF. We will definitely be coming here again and next time I'll get a picture of the food before we destroy it lol. Highly recommend you give this place a shot and keep small family businesses like these thriving here in GF! To all the Cali people comparing this place to food back home... we are not even close to home we are bumped up to Canada not Mexico lol. I ordered carne asada fries and they put maybe a half ounce scoop of carne asade on my fries. I paid 9.50 for fries And they wanted to charge me $6 for a bigger portion of carne asade. AND my fries were cold and the nacho cheese was so old. Maybe it's because I'm From california that has aldabertos and have carne asada fries for the same price but DRENCHED in carne asada, guacamole, sour cream, salsa and what ever else covering the whole tray of fries. I don't think I've ever been more dissapointed in a Mexican restaurant in my life and I will never come here again. This is the worst Mexican restaurant I've been too and a huge disgrace.
