Food was so, delicious! I had crab and shrimp omelet. It was amazing, staff was pretty attentive for a time that was extremely busy.

We happened upon this place while getting our car repaired at one of the local shops. It was recommended by another repair shop patron. The first thing we noticed about this restaurant was the warm and welcoming greeting we received from the staff. Once seated, we were given menus with a wide variety of breakfast and lunch options (the restaurant closes at 3pm daily). Everyone in our part enjoyed their selections. We were greeted my a most courteous and helpful server who offered suggestions and checked back frequently (but not to much) to make sure that everything was to our satisfaction. Other table support staff were just as friendly and helpful. Bathrooms were very clean and well kept. We will definitely visit Maria's again when in the area. read more

My family and I have enjoyed Maria's on several occasions. Unfortunately, my grandparents (76 and 81) were forced to pay twice for their breakfast while on their "breakfast date". Their waitress ended her shift during their meal, so they paid their bill so she could receive her tip before leaving. When my grandparents finished their meals, a gentleman presented them with a bill. My grandmother presented him the receipt from the waitress (paid cash). The gentleman then took the receipt from my grandparents and returned with the same bill. My grandparents paid the bill, again. Of course learning this later, my aunts and I were very disappointed. My grandparents did not want to draw attention or be of any problem so they complied. We will not be returning to this establishment. read more

I attended this place many times in the past. They usually are great at hosting and their service but today Sunday 3/28/2021 they are completely bad. Service was awful and makes me wonder why ppl go to a place where service is bad. So the best thing is to leave and not give them any money. One would think with Covid limiting their business or shutting them down that restaurants would be more courteous to ppl so ppl can come back into their establishments. I write the review in hopes that someone at Maria's is willing to read and make changes to stop a business from going out. The food quality at the restaurant is terrible! At one point had good food standards but now I wouldn't recommend anyone eating there. We've found bone chips in our sausage, nasty tasting coffee and poor serve just to name a few issues.Last visit was filled with wrong order, un-toasted bread 30 minutes late, bad attitude by management. No matter how many times I order the same thing, the cooks never get it right and the cashier seems to get angry because I POLITELY ask them correct the order. I simply ask for extra cheese - that's all! Numerous times I have left the restaurant without checking my order and found that the extra cheese I paid for was not there. Never have they offered a refund or credit. The last time I asked for the extra cheese that I had already paid for but didn't get, the cook slapped two pieces of cold cheese on my food. I asked if they would at least warm it up and Reuben said he would not have them warm it up. Reuben sent word that they have no manager so there was no one I could speak to. I didn't understand why I was getting this kind of treatment because I was being polite and wasn't raising my voice. However they conveyed very clearly that my patronage is not appreciated there. Additionally, Rueben the cashier, is never courteous. He takes my order and slams the phone down without even a simple thank you. read more

DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE! Let me start by saying if a zero-stars rating were possible, I would give this place a zero. This is too bad because we have lived in the almost 30 years area and have been going there for years...even before the ownership change (back when it was a Big Apple restaurant). After the change we kept going because the food was decent and we wanted to support a minority business. From day one, however, the new owner was rude and disrespectful. Yet we continue to go. In the last few months, they have deteriorated to a point where I will no longer tolerate the rudeness and deplorably poor service. And I can no longer put up with the blatant disregard for customers....the majority of whom are Black. Today was the absolute worse.(There have been other cases of rude, poor service and disrespect.) I called to place an order, was placed on hold for 10 minutes then hung up on. I called back, placed my order and was told it would be ready in 10 minutes. I arrived 20 minutes later (gave them an extra 10 mins) and was told that it would up shortly. I was told they had a lot of customers. I walked down the trip to a store and picked up a few items and came back 10 minutes later (now its been 30 minutes since placing order).The order was still not read. I had to wait another 13 minutes...43 minutes total. But, no apology. When I got home, the pancakes (2 orders) and toast (1 order) I included with my order were missing! I called them back and asked if I could pick up the missing items in 10 minutes. I was told emphatically that was not going to happen because they had "a lot of customers" ....even though they messed up the orders. Again no apology, no acknowledgment of their error, my lost of time, etc. In fact when I called them back, I was asked "what do you want to do?" I will never, ever go back to this place! There are too many other restaurants in the area who appreciate customers...even Black customers! read more

This place has horrible customer service, especially the guy in the front. He's extremely rude in person and on the phone and yells at you whenever you ask questions, we let it slide the first time because everyone can have bad days but this guy is rude ALL the time. Not only that but he's petty, when I ordered my meal he said the wait time was 25 minutes. I waited and called 30 minutes after and he yelled at me and waited another 15 minutes to give me my food, and my food was cold. Therefore, I don't recommend this place at all. read more

The only reason I am giving this place 1 star instead of 0 is because the food here is delicious. I live on the north side of Chicago, and this usually is a special treat when I come out to the south suburbs. I don't know if it is just from COVID and receiving a lot of phone orders, but the manager is very rude over the phone and in person. Yesterday, I ordered 2 orders of pancakes and a side of turkey bacon. When we got to the restaurant to pick it up, only one order of pancakes was ready. He claimed to my mom that I didn't order anything else, but I had to verify the order 3 times with him because he kept putting me on hold. Eventually, everything was straightened out but as my mom was walking out of the restaurant, he said: "Your son is not allowed to call in next time." I don't think there will be a next time. Just so all of you know, I haven't been there personally yet, but Big Apple Pancake House in Chicago Heights is the same menu and food without the same management as Maria's. I normally come here 1-2 times a month for weekend breakfast and decided to get my father breakfast of Father's Day, so I called in my order like I normally do and was advised due to Father's Day, they were not taking phone orders. Now, that is at the complete discression of the restaurant; however, that is the stupidest business move I have heard of in regards to improving customer experiences. The sole reason behind making a phone order is not waiting at the actual facility. So I decide to go in anyway because I was already at a store in the same strip mall and when I went in they advised me the wait will be about 10-15 minutes, is that okay? Heck no that is not okay. If I wanted to wait, I would have asked to be placed on the wait list to be seated. It is completely understood your business will be busier than normal on holidays, but mostly for the wait times for individuals dining in. A longer wait time for a phone order will be the case as well, but at least your order already placed and you will not have to waste even more time waiting for your food by the time you arrive at the restaurant. In addition, the business will not have twice the amount of people waiting in their small waiting area because the phone order customers will be able to get in and get out. I work in customer service and I am such a stickler for GOOD customer service. So due to my current experience, I have the impression the lady who normally answers the phones is too slow and incompetent to take 120 sec phone orders during the moments people are waiting to be seated or are coming up to pay their bills (because that is all she does). And FYI, when you have a call and someone in front of you at the same time, you answer the phone as ask them to hold for a moment please, cash out your customer in front of you, and take the phone order. There was another last placing names on the list for dine in customers, so I don't see how difficult it would have been. Perhaps you should rethink your holiday policies because you definitely lost this customer and everyone I know. I will take my business to other restaurants that value their customers. read more

The food is OK, but this place is missing attention to detail. The chicken tenders we're hard, and over cooked. The grease probably needs changing. Kids couldnt eat them. I give Marias 4 stars because their food is always on point. I especially love the fajita omelet with both steak and chicken. Their pancakes are delicious. We went there on Mother's Day ... a good test for service and quality. The service was good. The wait wasn't bad, 15 minutes maybe. Food was good quality for a breakfast joint with ample servings. I got a veggie skillet and had half left to take home. One son got a breakfast croissant with scrambled eggs and ham, and the other son got a breakfast burrito. All three meals were good. Today my church family and I had breakfast at Maria's restaurant located at 182nd & Kedzie in Country Club Hills. There was approximately 21 of us spending well over $200 as a group. Two of the people in my group received their fish half cooked. Although the restaurant did replace the fish, when the issue was brought up to the rude manager Luiz, upon paying the bill, his response was "what do you want me to do about it"? No one apologized for serving half cooked food. I thought the goal of management was to ensure that the customer was satisfied. This was only a couple of the things that transpired but after this treatment we have decided that we will never dine there again. Why do people of other nationalities open businesses in our community then think it's okay to treat us rude and disrespectful? HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! Twice during pandemic I ordered from this place. The first time the man who took my order was so rude that I seriously couldn't believe it. I went ahead with my order and he was pretty much yelling the whole time and demanded I pay over the phone then became frustrated when I asked him for a total... and didn't provide one. Ok I thought maybe with everything going on he was flustered with the pandemic and everything (but heck who wasn't). So I called back and got the same guy and he was very rude and tried to rush me through my order as I had 2 orders. So I go pick up my order and when he approached my car I told him how rude he was. He then had the nerve to tell me that he did ME a favor by allowing me to place two separate orders!!! This man is insane! He will never get any more of my money. Ordered the salmon croquettes they weren't done on the inside and the hash browns wasn't browned I couldn't eat so I told waitress. The manager came to our table and asked if i wanted anything else so I asked for bacon fried hard. They returned with half cooked bacon and hash browns again not browned. They may be a bit expensive but they make it worth your money. The food is very delicious there and the employees actually remember faces. :) I was even let off with a dollar or so when I came up short. The platters there are enough to feed two people for just one order of food which is amazing. I visited this restaurant on September 3, 2015 for breakfast with my daughter and my dad. Usually the food and service is good but this visit the food came out cold and the waitress was exactly the same way. She never greeted us she just walked up to the table and stood there. No smile no personality and she acted like we were interfering with her. How can you be in the service industry to serve customers with no customer service skills? I love Maria's ! The food is great especially the avocado stuffed with tuna platter . My daughter loves the baked apple pancakes, since it takes some time to prepare this dish , we always call ahead so it is ready when we arrive. I have been a frequent customer of this restaurant since they were called Big Apples. Once it was bought by another owner I continued to frequent the restaurant even though the quality of the service and food was less than before but it was still tolerable and the manager had such a great personable personality and I believe in spending money on the businesses in my neighborhood. Several occasions I have gone into the restaurant for take out and encountered a older gentleman that works the register that I when I saw his face I really wanted to turn around because he was ALWAYS unpleasant and in a rush. Several times he has messed up my orders and whenever you question it he becomes defensive and rude. Normally I just ignore him because the other staff is mostly pleasant but this particular day he took my order over the phone and repeated it incorrectly and when I corrected him he said yes and hung up the phone. When I arrived to pick up my food I checked it and of course it was incorrect. Since I had not paid for it yet he was informed the order was not correct and he became angry and refused to correct the mistake. I explained to him I didn't want it because it was incorrect then he stated he would remake the omelet and add the cheese but then returned stating they would not remake it but instead just put a piece of cheese on top. But when I instructed him the cheese wouldn't be melted and the quality would not be good he still refused. Because of this I will never return back here because they preferred to lose a long time customer over a slice of cheese rather than to satisfy a customer for many years. It let me know that they feel they don't no longer feel the need that customer satisfaction is important. I will happily spend my money elsewhere and tell everyone I know to say away from this place. read more
