The food and service here is amazing! Everything is perfectly seasoned, good quality, and the food portions are generous. Not many dining options in little Cathlamet but Maria's was a winner. It's a classic "cheap, good, and lots of food" Mexican restaurant, friendly and clean. We split the 2 enchiladas and chili relleno combo, and got sides of sour cream and guac. Loved that relleno! All delicious and no leftovers. Not spicy but there's an app for that. read more

I am a regular visitor to Cathlamet and I like the town and the people there very much. I especially enjoy taking pictures at the marina and talking to some of the vessel captains and crew there. For a long time Cathlamet has had very few decent dining options. A few good ones have come and gone over the decades. I've enjoyed the food at Maria's food cart at the marina a few times but they must keep very screwy hours as it is usually not open when I am there (weekends, mostly). She used to park it on the other side of the marina out of view. In recent times it's been moved to a more prominent location as you drive in. I don't know if the storefront restaurant on the main drag heading to the ferry is new or if I've just zoned it out when I've walked by but it is currently operational with the same high quality food as the cart but an expanded menu. Very authentic Mexican. Tasty. Abundant portions. Reasonable prices. Yes you have to put on your obedience mask for the ten foot walk to your table and can then take it off. I suppose this "mandate" makes sense to people who make their living bossing other people around. It is what it is until people start taking their voting privileges more seriously. A small inconvenience albeit degrading requirement to enjoy a decent meal. No stars off since I presume none of this insanity is Maria's idea. Seems to me there was a restaurant in that same location a while back but as far as I recall it's always been closed. My geezer memory often fails me. Of the few dining options in the area I'd say that Maria's is the best. Sharons used to be the best but after several new owners it's no so much. read more

I got the chicken taco salad it's came with shredded chicken, shredded lettuce, two types of cheese, sour cream, beans, guacamole, tomatoes, and I put some of their signature salsa on it and was served in a big Tortilla taco bowl. First off it was HUGE!! It came with more than enough food so much I had to take a few breaks but I couldn't stop myself because it was so good! I was very pleased to see that the chicken came shredded. It was juicy and seemed like high quality chicken but didn't have much flavor to it besides being good chicken. (The chicken wasn't as warm as it should've been because the cheese didn't melt on top of it.) The shredded lettuce was fresh but it had to much of a presence in the taco salad, some of the bites were just straight lettuce even though I mixed it all up. The cheese was one of the best parts! I feel like it pulled the salad together, it was really the glue holding all of the ingredients together every bite had just enough cheese and there were 2 types (cheddar, & Mozzarella) The sour cream was a good choice just because I think it belongs on a taco salad not to much to say about it other than it was great. To be honest the beans were the thing I remember the least about they were well cooked but they were just plain retried beans nothing to rave about but nothing negative to say, they were also at the bottom of the salad & there wasn't much of them. The Guacamole & Tomatoes were great! And these are a big part of the whole thing because they were fresh and made a big appearance, the guac was a nice green, not chunky and had a nice smooth consistency. Always great customer service. The young woman who works the front desk is always very helpful and efficient. I've been here multiple times and she has always greeted me with a smile. I've ordered breakfast before and it was so yummy! I got the breakfast burrito with bacon!! Mmmm I just came here for lunch and got the bowl of tortilla soup, which was hot and tasty. Huge serving for a reasonable price. A bowl is enough for two people. I also ordered the chicken nachos! Yummy, hot, and great display!! Will come here again!!! read more

It's good, i mean i have had better. But dont get me wrong the pancakes are really good. But the hash browns are are well... Freezer hash browns. And they were OUT OF BACKON!!!! I was not happy about that! They were also out of waffles!!! So i got pancakes eggs and sausages. I hate sausages so i didn't touch it. Oh well. I was full and it was good for a breakfast. Ordered a taco (ground beef) and enchilada (picadillo). Before it arrived we had chips and salsa. I found a hair in the salsa. So, they brought new salsa.... my food arrived and it was a tostada on one plate and an enchilada on the main plate with the rice and beans. Um... I ordered a taco. So, I decided to try the tostada. The ground beef was cold and odd looking. So, I pushed that to the edge of the table. I started on the enchilada and it was pretty good..... until I got to the end. A humongous piece of jiggly fat. I'm done. When the waitress came over I showed it to her. She took the plate back to the kitchen. She returned saying "he" (whoever that was) said he would comp my meal, but that's the way "he" cooks his beef so it stays moist. Assuming now that "he" was the cook. So, I'm a pretty good cook, and yes, fat does make meat tastier and juicier..... but that doesn't mean you have to SERVE the fat on a plate. Stopped in for breakfast as they were the only option in Cathlamet that was open early on a Sunday morning. Our waitress was polite. Very dated decor throughout, carpet in the bar area was "repaired" with duct tape, faded plastic cups with tap water, cheap paper napkins and cheap metal flatware. They were out of decaf coffee. My omelette was fine but bland and nothing that I couldn't make at home much better. The hash browns were from a frozen package and the toast was cold; I left both on the plate. My husband's chorizo burrito was dry, tasteless and made him quite sick later in the day. Overall a very disappointing experience we would not repeat or recommend. read more

For a little berg like CATHLAMET, this restaurant has been a staple. Always there during hours posted, and always congenial. We are remotely located, so occasionally they are out of something, but they'll try to find a substitute that satisfies. Servings are ample and staff is pleasant. read more

Maria's has a big menu with Mexican dishes and classic American fare like burgers and pancake breakfasts etc. I would highly recommend avoiding the ground beef it is way over seasoned and will not leave you feeling well. I recommend the chicken enchiladas and chili relleno. The hard shell taco shells are clearly from a package, as are the chips, and possibly the hard to eat salsa. Regardless, this place is fine if you know what to order. Also, the wait time was long despite being the first table there and still didn't get our food first. read more

Stopped for lunch in this beautiful town on the Columbia River. Maria's is a very clean, very friendly place with the best Mexican food I've had in PNW. The drive along Highway 4 is absolutely beautiful and then my lunch of spinach enchiladas was superb. Burritos, tacos, and enchiladas are blandest of bland, even when you specifically request extra chiles or very spicy. American breakfast items (pancakes and waffles) are adequate. Bar service is usually friendly, and beer selection includes the local Drop Anchor/River Mile 38. Those factors justified a second star. read more
