One of Harlem's best-kept secrets. A real gem in a changing neighborhood…read more I'm no connoisseur, but as a humble Gringa who adores authentic Latin food of all stripes, I feel privileged to have this place within blocks of my home. The chicharron gorditas are a divine indulgence from the street food Gods. All of the tortillas are handmade right in front of you with love and care usually reserved for handling an infant. Not too far off since the final product reminds me of a beautiful baby! Offerings are hand-written in English and Spanish, and the women who own and operate this simple business are kind, helpful, and knowledgable. Additionally, they have a killer squash blossom quesadilla loaded with queso fresco, crisp lettuce, and extra dried chillis on the side (you must!). As an American of Italian descent who grew up eating squash blossoms in pasta or fried and stuffed with ricotta, I was delighted by this unexpected (to me) combination and even more thrilled when the ladies told me where I too could buy the blossoms down the street! Very helpful. Impressively, the entire operation breaks down at the end of the day without a trace. It's not uncommon to see them scrubbing it down with boiling water and soap after they are done serving the day's customers. They miraculously never leave a trace of litter or other evidence despite how busy they always are. A great operation and perfect neighbors. Look for the blue tarp and don't' forget to tip!

The line for ordering can sometimes get pretty hectic with no real order so people tend to skip in front of you. Their gorditas are not fresh made and come out of a cooler and onto the grill instead. The juices are very good. For tacos I would recommend taco mix on 116 St instead.

I have been soliciting A1 Distributors for many years, personally and professionally. On August 27,…read more2022, I went to A1 for my charitable organization's BBQ. Not only did I purchase food, but I also rented one of their large grills. When we arrived at the park with the grill, one of my board members made me aware that the grill looked like it had some faulty repair. It appeared to have putty in an attempt to glue the grill and some wiring to fix the damage. When I returned their grill (nicely cleaned), I pointed out the damage to one of the workers. Later that morning, I was contacted by Tracey from A1, and she informed me that there would be a $50 charge for damage to the grill. She did send photos and videos of the damage. The image also indicated the previous damage that was not correctly repaired. As such, we disputed the additional charge. Tracey then called me and stated that I was being rude for not paying and that they would not do business with me in the future if I did not pay. I responded by advising Tracey that we find her conduct to be hostile, as her response appeared to be insulting (calling me rude) and threatening (not doing business with us in the future). But regardless, I approved of her charge for the additional payment and informed her that I would seek other vendors in the future. She said she was not hostile and expected us to 'do the right thing.' Also, she 'just won't do any future business with you (me)' and stated she would not charge the additional $50 for damages. The right thing? We disputed the damage but still offered to pay. I guess we were not supposed to raise any objection. This experience was aggressive, unprofessional, and lacked customer service skills. It was never about the money, it was about how I responded.

The staff is fantastic and NIck (I think he is one of the managers) is and old school, Italian hospitality laden, lovable teddy bear all wrapped up into one. They are well stocked with virtually any grocery item you can think of. Think of it as the more personable Costco or BJs that doesn't require a memberhip for you to enjoy deep savings on grocery items. Nick treats everyone like family--the side of the family that he likes!
