This season I especially want to call out Lorenna Gallagher from Seeds and Good Deeds. She sold me the freshest eggs I've ever had. The yolks were deep golden and rich, and the flavor was noticeably better than anything you'll find in a store. Lorenna is part of a Phoenix collective doing urban gardening in the Phoenix and Tempe area and giving back to the community. Hearing about how she carefully raises and feeds her chickens, and recently expanded her flock, made the experience even more impressive -- and you can absolutely taste the difference. Be sure to seek out Seeds and Good Deeds when you visit the market. Supporting vendors like Lorenna is exactly what makes a local farmers market special.

The best one I have been to in the Phoenix area is the Uptown Farmer's Market, so if you come to this one, you'll be disappointed. The new location at the Chandler Gilbert Community College is basically an asphalt parking lot, which takes away the whole charm of the experience. We arrived, saw the no-dogs sign, and then saw that the market was set up on hot asphalt in the sun, so we turned around and left. That was especially frustrating after making the trip, since the old downtown location was so much more inviting and enjoyable. It is a shame they moved it from downtown Gilbert to a parking lot setting. The old location felt like a community event. This one just didn't.

Having been to the Farm-To-Fork Capitol and the markets there, my expectations were low. This market far exceeded and competed with any of the markets I've visited in the Sacramento and Napa regions! Husband highly recommends LOVE'S JERKEY CO which has an outstanding array of Jerkey from locally sourced beef. The various beautiful fresh flower displays for sale were delightful. And... There are artist booths, and plant booths, and food booths and all the dogs that want to make friends but much more walking room to allow for discussions among friends...
