I was so impressed by Marie. I had been tasked with getting new headshots for work and she was the absolute perfect fit for me. Responsive, attentive, creative: all these words can be used to describe her. To start, we made an appointment over the phone and her instructions for how to get to her studio and how the service were clear and concise. Furthermore, I was very confident + comfortable with her attention to details re: COVID19. Everything was very clean and we kept both our masks on until the inevitable photos started being taken. What I found most helpful was her advice on structurally creating flattering conditions and also on what kinds of clothing/hair/makeup to prepare for the event while still being respectful and mindful of the client's tastes. For instance, I immediately just assumed since these photos were professional in nature, that a black blouse would be ideal. She gently advised me that actually wearing something with a bit more color to it would be even more flattering, make me look friendlier, and overall convey more personality in the photo. I was surprised to hear that advice but she is the pro, not me, so we both ran with the idea and I brought a few options. Boy was she right! The end product photos were a HUGE, MASSIVE, MONSTROUSLY large improvement over the unflattering, generic, poorly lit photos my company had been using and advertising with. It was literally a night and day process in terms of quality and service. She absolutely nailed it. Priced well for the market and attentive as can be, I could not recommend her more. They made me feel at ease and helped me to pick out the best outfit based on my goals for the photo. I filled out the booking form on her website, and she gave me a call to talk about my ideas for my shoot to make sure she was a match for me. I worked with Marie to get professional headshots taken and had a fantastic experience. Marie and I discussed wardrobe in the week leading up to the photo session, and she was very helpful in recommending outfits that would both look good and stand out (I even ended up keeping an Ann Taylor dress she recommended specifically for the shoot). I would also highly recommend getting hair and makeup done. She works with a hair/makeup artist who comes to the studio, and basically turns you into a 2.0 version of yourself, which definitely comes across in the pictures. During the actual photo session, Marie was really enthusiastic, trying different types of lighting, poses, outfits, and showing me the results to get my thoughts. I recently moved and started a new job, which unbeknownst to me would be accompanied by a request from my new employer for a "headshot" for use on the company's website. Not ever having had one taken and not particularly liking to have my picture taken in general,"Yikes!", was my initial reaction. And so I put off the daunting task for months. Wanted to share an unfortunate experience I had w/a photographer in Hoboken - Marie Papp Photography. I am writing this post, in hopes that others do not have to experience what we are going through. I hired Marie Papp to do my Wedding, a milestone event in my life. I provided her with a list of shots that were "must haves" (i.e. family shots of both families) prior to the event, there were about 15, and the rest we left up to her disgression. Here lies my first issue with Marie Papp, when we got the negatives, I was disappointed to find out only 5 of the 15 "must have" shots were taken. Now the second issue, which is unprofessional, and no way to run a business. When we decided we were ready to create an album we reached at to Marie who informed us that she was too busy, and could not create our album. I thought the simple solution was to get the negatives and go to another source to create the album. When I reached out to her for the negatives, she quoted a ridiculouosly high price and would not budge. As a sanity check, I reached out to other local photographers who said they would have charged 40-50% of what Marie was quoting us. She is now holding our negatives ransom. We offered her a reasonble price for our negatives and she said no. Think twice before using Marie Papp. And if you do, make sure you spell out everything in the contract. read more

Updating my review after sadly seeing other affected by the same issues I've encountered with Marie Papp. I am very sorry to say my first review was as a result of also holding my negatives ransom, as Steve F. has posted having the same issue. Marie was great to work with at the start, we took all the shots I requested and was happy with the results. However, when it came down to releasing the images, she absolutely refused to. I've worked with many photographers and this was an absolute shock to me. We agreed on 3 'professionally' re-touched images and verbally agreed to release other images un re-touched, as I am somewhat able to re-touch images myself. The first round of 'professionally' retouched images was a disaster, I had to respond back with at least 10 simple re-touching notes she had missed and when she re-sent the images, they were sloppily done. From there, I chose a few additional shots I liked and asked her to send me the negatives unretouched, this would take the click of a button - on images she already had, that I had paid her to take. Marie absolutely refused and forced me into paying double what I had already paid for the additional images as well as writing a positive review. She knew this was well over by budget and I absolutely could not afford this, but my hands were completely tied and I had no choice. I am disgusted with the situation and it makes me sick to think there are people out there who take such advantage of others as she clearly didn't stop with me. She will be reported to the better business bureau, and I pray you do not use her services as she is a complete money-hungry scam artist. read more

I have used Marie Papp for our maternity photos and we were truly amazed with the final product. My wife looks like a model and everyday I pass our photos in the house and appreciate the attention to detail Marie takes with these events. She prepares you well for the shot by advising what to wear, makeup, hair etc. and on the day of the shot she makes you pose/ rotate your face and upper body to achieve the perfect angle for the headshot (very few photographers do that) read more

I highly recommend Marie! My company brought in a photographer to take headshots for our website and I wanted to cry when I saw how mine came out. I decided to pay for my own and called Marie and I couldn't be more pleased with what I got. When we scheduled the appointment Marie asked to see a photo of me and immediately told me what color I needed to wear. She also pointed out that if I colored my eyebrows they would actually show up in my photos. She is upfront, which I appreciate and her advice was spot on and made a world of difference in my photos. She has a great eye (and I'm particular myself) and her styling/advice is included in her pricing, which is amazing. I'm really uncomfortable having my picture taken but Marie created a relaxed and fun environment. She took her time and tried out a number of clothing options, angles, and lighting options until she found something that was right for me. Marie took beautiful pictures of my 12 day old daughter. She was incredibly patient with me and my daughter and spent several hours making sure she got great shots.
