After 3 years, I'm back. I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. So when my…read morepanic and anxiety attacks conveniently began to tag team, I found myself back to the beginning. The universe knew exactly what it was doing sending me back to the starting line. I've lost my way again. I indeed forgot how to calm my mind and body. It was a humbling way for the universe to tell me I am not meditating nor relaxing correctly. That's where Jessika comes in. She is the absolute best and is truly amazing at holding a safe space for you to achieve complete and total relaxation. She offers virtual appointments and thankfully she had availability within a few days. My experience during a session is walking in with a million thoughts racing through my head while my body can't sit down and walking out relaxed, peaceful, and focused. What a difference. I must admit how naive I was to think that reiki should not be a consistent part of my healing journey. Talking with Jessika, she made an interesting point that while reiki can help after one session its benefits can go beyond by being more consistent. I do agree because if one session can bring peace to my life imagine what monthly sessions could do for my health and healing. My goal is to be more consistent in reiki healings this year so that I can be the best version of myself. I can't wait to book my next session and continue to work on healing. So if you are on the fence, do it. Book the appointment and get started on your healing journey.

There were 6 of us so we broke into groups of 3 and scheduled back to back. Overall, I loved the experience. We started with laying in comfy recliners while wearing compression sleeves that inflate to squeeze the life out of your hips or legs. I did 15 minutes on my hips and 15 minutes on my legs and I was so comfy that I knocked out hard for at least 5 minutes. When I was done, it was off to red light therapy area for me, then 20 minutes in the infrared sauna. The red light therapy area was warm and I'm not sure how much benefit I got, but was definitely worth 7 minutes. The sauna was not extremely hot, although it was over 150 degrees. I didn't sweat my a$$ off which is what happens when I usually go into a sauna. This was ok with me as I had just had my hair done that morning and my curls stayed relatively intact. Then it was off to the cold plunge. I was coached through being able to stay in for 20 minutes and after the initial few minutes, it really wasn't that hard. I wish this place wasn't closing! We learned that they will just be open til the end of the month. Sad, as I would have totally come back!

I was a bit hesitant to try one myself, but I am so incredibly glad I found Wellevate Lounge. It has completely changed my wellness routine. The lounge offers a fantastic range of services. I've been using the compression boots for my legs and the compression for the hips, which has made a noticeable difference in my physical therapy and as I get back into working out. I also love the full panel red lights, where I can wear glasses and rest my eyes, and the private sauna space, which is perfect for stretching and reading while listening to my own music. The true highlight of my experience, however, is the owner, Nina. I was very nervous about trying the cold plunge for the first time. Nina was so kind and attentive, walking me through the process and staying by my side to work on my breathing until I reached the two-minute mark. Her commitment to her clients is amazing; she is extremely knowledgeable and genuinely wants to help you get the most out of your session. I also really appreciate the incredible cleanliness of the space. Nina sanitizes everything after each use, right down to the flooring in the red light room. This level of care and attention to detail is truly unmatched. Before coming here, I had tried compression boots at another place, but Nina's personalized guidance made this a far more effective and enjoyable experience. I never would have tried a place like this before, but thanks to Nina and the welcoming atmosphere she has created, I will be a returning customer for a long time.

Beginner or not, this is a great space to relive some stress, tap into your inner peace, and meet others that are also interested in self exploration. What a gem in Costa Mesa, providing the public with free meditation classes (donations are always welcome!). Gil and Marilyn are SO welcoming, and somehow manage to remember everyones names. The first time I came in was by myself for the Wednesday night group practice led by Gil. The next time I came in was with my cousin, who had no prior meditation experience at all, and she loved it. I randomly found this place online when I was looking to get back into meditation a few months after I completed a Vipassana course. Although Shambhala is different, the 7:00pm class opens with an introduction and instruction to approaching this style of meditation. Note that the space itself is *behind* the Coco's. If you're facing the restaurant, to left you'll find a hall that you pass through. Make a turn towards the salon and you'll find the Meditation Center. The space is warm and clean, be sure to check in with Marilyn or Sepi at the front desk to say that you're new. You take off your shoes (you might want to wear socks) and enter the meditation hall closed off by silkscreen doors. No need to bring pillows or a bloc as very comfortable ones are already provided for you. For those who have trouble sitting cross legged or kneeling on the floor, there are three ample rows of chairs behind the floor seating. The temperature is mild--I wore a jean jacket with a t-shirt underneath and was comfortable the whole session. After practicing two sets of walking and sitting meditation, the class sat in a circle and read a chapter from The Lost Art of Good Conversation, by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche. The discussion that followed provides an excellent connection between how the physical and mental exercise of meditation translates to our everyday lives. You have nothing to lose by dropping in. I hope to provide an updated review after attending one of their Saturday sessions or courses. For a fee, they have really cool contemplative arts seminars. I wanted to sign up for the Ikebana course, the study and practice of flower arranging, but they ran out of space! The best way to keep up with its events is by following its Meetup page.
