    Sound bath experience
    Russ T.

I've taken the breath work class and the soundbath experience here. Both amazing classes! Behind the lids is more than a place to take classes. It a community of like minded, kind hearted and very talented individuals. I walked in a beginner, welcomed in with such accepting energy. The classes truly are individual experiences in their own, to be had. Thank you to everyone that makes this place happen. :) Russ

Hidden gem of a place that can help relaxation and anxiety. Who needs wine or weed to relax when you can come here and do it the healthy way. The set up of the gongs was beautiful.

What an amazing place for healing and community. I had been wanting to attend one of the sound baths here for a while and when I finally did, it was exactly what I needed. Mandy and the team at BTL are simply some of the best humans and super humans I've met. You just need to attend a class or workshop for yourself to experience all of the good energy that they and that special place have to offer.

(Nichole in orange and black) from the Embodied Breathwork Facilitator workshop training where she is demonstrating some practices for us.

I can't say enough amazing things about Behind the Lids!! I've been to so many classes and they were all amazing! The studio space that the owner, Mandy Adams designed, is gorgeous and a perfect environment for dropping in with yourself for incredible healing. Also, Mandy recently became the new owner after her dear friend Corey sold it to her as she was a perfect person to take over and honor the work Corey and Frankie have already done in the community before her. Among my favorite teachers/leaders are Nichole Ferro, Zaire Black and Stacy Pendleton, and Lisa Bebe: Because I had such a beautiful healing experience during a Wednesday night Woman's Breathwork Circle, led by Nichole Ferro, I was compelled to take her Embodied Breathwork Workshop and became a certified facilitator myself! And I honestly had so many huge and profound moments in that two weekend course that I seriously recommend that as well! Plus Nichole is such a knowledgeable, patient, and powerful teacher and we all learned so much from her. As a facilitator, she is so great at creating a safe space and cultivating a powerful healing experience while making people feel seen, heard and cared for. Thank you BTL for being a huge part of my enlightenment and healing journey!!

I began attending yoga, yogalates and barre classes and trying out different instructors. I even tried the Metal Yoga and loved it! There used to be a yoga class that incorporated reiki which was awesome (Meera we miss you!) Currently my favorite classes are the sound baths with Missy. They also feature special classes every once in a while for special things like breath work etc. which are quite popular. I really like this studio because it's not one of those impersonal corporate owned places that has a generic big box feel. I hate those places because any time I have done the one free class deal to see if I like it I end up getting hounded by text messages trying to sell me a monthly membership. Hello Yoga is NOT that kind of place. They are so chill here. Hello Yoga is a woman owned small business and you can meet Debra, the owner, and take one of her classes and experience how great she is. She knows what people want and need so she offers all types of options for signing up for classes. You can choose to have a monthly membership, pay for a single class, buy a class pack or use Classpass. There's always plenty of parking in the lot in front of the studio with overflow parking available behind the studio.

It really feels like a "community yoga center," it's honestly so Costa Mesa. The classes are excellent. The instructors do a great job of accommodating all levels and they're super-friendly. They have a variety of class types, including barre and yogalates. It's just a great studio, and their unlimited monthly rate is an amazing deal. They even have livestreaming classes now. And their new student intro rate for your first month is only $50 at the time I'm writing this. I can't say enough good things about this place.

My experience with Triad Yoga began a few years ago because my friend took courses there and…read morebecause it was so conveniently located near my office. They offer a beginner's special - an unlimited two weeks for $25. As with any of Triad's classes, there is no need to register or sign up in advance. Just show up before the class starts and a little earlier if you need to handle payment of any kind. Parking can be hard to find at ground-level immediately in front of the studio but there is ample underground parking. The space is small and almost all yoga studio. The rear has a restroom and the front contains a small waiting room with cubbies for your personal belongings and the supplies - blocks, cords, and mats. In those first two weeks, I was tepid and only attended two low level classes. They were not physically taxing, but at the same time, I was limited by my lack of knowledge by the poses and was poorly imitating those around me. They were, however, extremely relaxing and a good way of mentally detaching from work and reality. At the beginning of each course, the instructors ask who is brand new, presumably so they can provide extra guidance to those students. In hindsight, I would comment that the instructors always asked the question but rarely assisted me with poses. In fact, they seemed to give more attention to regular students. I found out last week that I still do downward dog improperly. Why did no instructor ever fix that? A few years later, I wanted to try yoga again and purchased a 5 course package for $70. I became preoccupied with work deadlines and was forced to use the majority of the classes in a one week period. I ended up taking two courses that were slightly above my expertise, although they were billed as Level 1-2. Everything I said about the low level courses not being physical enough was out the window here. I twisted and squatted and ended up with satisfying muscle ache the next day. It was challenging for me. One of the most disappointing parts was how little instruction I received in the 7 classes I attended. I'm still very new to yoga and the Indian names for the poses don't register for me. Sometimes, I had no understanding of what I was supposed to be doing and had to wait 5 seconds to copy my neighbor. It wasn't always easy to copy the instructor because it was dimly lit in the studio (normal) and my view was obstructed by many other students. At one point, I whispered to the instructor walking by whether there was a modified pose because I couldn't do the one she wanted us to do and she very abruptly told me "I said it already but you weren't listening." Whoa, where did that come from? Did you lose your zen? The reason I asked again was because I didn't understand what she meant when she described the modified pose. Excuse me if I don't know what my "sanctum" is. I am still giving Triad a 3 star review because this is the only yoga studio I've ever attended. Maybe this is the norm but frankly, I don't understand how anyone learns when no one teaches. I somehow doubt yoga is about the blind leading the blind.
