The original owner of this place is a sweet lady who used to bake in her home. My family and I had been ordering from here for years, however, it seems like now the person whos in charge of this place is the ladys husband who is EXTREMELY RUDE and ignorant. Even people who give away free stuff should be respectful and courteous. The staff is also very rude and it seems like they will do anything in their power to stay with your money. I ordered a baptism cake and they made me make a $200 deposit. I cancelled it a month in advance but then I ordered a birthday cake the SAME DAY and I tried to use that deposit and they told me NO. Makes ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE. I contacted the lady who took my order several times and never answered or called me back as she had mentioned at the beginning. Many months passed by and they didnt want to refund me nor let me use my credit. After speaking with the owners daughter, she managed to help me get a birthday cake with my deposit. (Shes a sweetheart, I used to make my orders with her). Guess what?! I went to pickup the cake today and THEY DIDNT MAKE THE CAKE. I asked for a refund because I was furious and the owners husband got on the phone with me screaming that he will not refund me anything. Catching an attitude over HIS MISTAKES AND HIS STAFF mistakes. He said IF I WANT TO, I can wait 15mins for an old cake. It took them almost 2 hours to decorate the old cake, and it didn't even come out like I wanted it to. This is the 2nd time that my family members are spoken to with disrespect and I will not continue spending a cent in this place. Now Im outside their establishment because my moms brand new vehicle was hit. This trip from long island to Elmhurst just cost me over $2,000 and a waste of time. All over trying to get an old cake. For years I had been dodging peoples negative comments about this place and continued supporting them, but today, they proved to me that everything thats said is true. Occasion for the cake? your simple thank you cake to my old co-workers They do have wedding cakes, when I was there I saw a couple look through everything. Cake Reservations? I personally would suggest it, however, I went on a whim and I am so grateful that they were able to whip something up so fast for me while I waited there! I was lucky they had 2 cakes in the size I wanted being finished up so all they had to do was add the text I wanted! Cost: $25 each. I got 2 small ones that theoretically serve maybe 10-15 people if you cut conservative pieces. I was able to get 20 very conservative slivers out of it. Otherwise, 8-10 decent servings with the smaller cake. Dominican Cake: Flavor: Dulce De Leche -I didn't have much of a choice since I didn't call in a head of time and pretty much walked in and crossing my fingers they would have some type of cake made and all they had at the time was Dulce De Leche. The lady working there did also say they had a guava one, which sounded so delicious, but unfortunately did not have the chance to get it since I was super last min. -I liked how the cake was moist, but not overly! I usually hate dry cakes and I am glad this one was perfect for me and my co-workers. The flavor was also not too over powering in terms of sweetness and not overly heavy. Overall: pretty good cake here, not the best I've had in NYC, but it does the job and is pretty delicious. Tip Bits: -You do have to ring the door bell to get in because they do lock the front door. -They do take credit card, but be aware there is a service charge. Marina Bizcocho is the spot. I feel like they have gotten better every year. Highly recommend you call in and order your cake at least the day before and then pick it up to ensure you're getting the freshest cake possible. Each with the name of the birthday boys( I was going to do my own decorating that's why the cakes had to be with one color frosting and only with the respective name). When I picked up the cakes, the "red frosting cake" was a white frosting cake with red squiggly lines on the side. The "yellow" one was white frosting with yellow frosting only on the side. Additionally, on the top of the cake they decided to decorate it with cut out fondant stars and circles. After telling the man that the cakes were not what I asked for, he said " I took your order and I told you this is the only way we make it. If you wanted it in one color frosting that would've been $98 for each cake". AT NO TIME WHEN I PLACED THE ORDER DID HE SAY THIS TO ME. Even though I was clearly upset, you would think he would apologize or even try to fix it, instead I got a "don't worry, it's only the cakes, the party will be ok" WTF!?!?!? 2. Paid extra for nuts in TWO dulce de leche cakes, there were no nuts. Man who both took my order and was there when I picked up the cakes started arguing with me that he personally took my order and I didn't order the cake with nuts. After he reprinted the receipt, it clearly stated on it that I asked for nuts. No apology, instead he asked if I was sure that there was no nuts..... I've been eating and ordering Marina's cakes for the last 14 years ever since she was baking them out of her basement and selling them from her home. Alot has changed since shes opened up her baker though. I do speak minimal spanish but not enough to try to get my order across without it getting messed up. Even if they say they speak and understand English I wouldnt chance it and have someone who speaks Spanish fluenty call for you to order. You order by the pound, which still to this day I never understand so I just give them an approximate number of people Im looking to serve and they tell me how much cake to order. Ive never had any issues with not having enough cake, even with my entire family loving it, wanting seconds and taking some home. So I fully trust in the amount of pounds they recommend. I have ordered mostly Birthday cakes and for our family Easter dinner. I never give them specific directions on the cakes other than the flavor for the filling, the color(s) for decorating with icing and what to write on the top if i want anything even written at all. Ive seen the previous review on the bottom where the cake was not matched to her requests, so I cant compare since my requests are limited. This is an average bakery in Corona. This is where we always come to get a cake for any occasion because they are extremely flexible with orders and generally will take orders for the same day. The place is really clean, however the service is questionable. The place is always crowded especially on the weekends since they are always super busy. Sometimes you place an order over the phone and they give you a time to pick up your cake and you end up having to wait at least 30 minutes. Then again, you're lucky you were able to place the order the same day. I highly recommended their Dominican Cake you can get half a pound for $26 which is super cheap if you ask me.
