Excellent Pizzeria. This place is more like a restaurant than a true, local pizzeria. The interior is deceptively expansive and the decor is really nice. We went for lunch and had two of the personal brick oven pizzas. They were a quality size, we probably could have shared one. Their sauce and cheese combo really good, nice fresh tasting mozz and the sauce is well spiced. My wife got the eggplant and ricotta pizza, the eggplant was lightly battered and you could tell it was freshly fried, not sitting around in the back waiting for an order. There aren't a great many places to dine in my hood. Fortunately, Marinara is one of the few, and it is damn good. Marinara has been a staple in the Five Towns for at least as long as I've lived here... So we're talking 15 years plus. The menu is vast, from Apps to Main Dishes, pastas, soups, specialty pizzas, or even just the basics. Last night my boys and I visited for a quick bite before a Masterbatters doubleheader at Greis Park (in case you were wondering, we split the doubleheader). Unsure of what to eat, we decided to dabble. Harrison had the vegetable minestrone, Leo, the pasta fagioli. Both came out hot and were loaded with fresh ingredients. This stuff does not come out of a Progresso soup can. It is made from scratch, and it is awesome. It bears noting that the portion is gigantic and enough for two if you are not greedy. Next course...Cesar salad. N.B., I asked for the salad to be chopped and did not get that bewildered look I often receive from servers when I ask for my salad to be chopped. My sense is that it cannot be too difficult to chop a salad...but I digress. The salad had the perfect blend of dressing and croutons, and the dressing was not too heavy. It had a nice tang. The lettuce was fresh and crisp. Great stuff. Having been inspired by my recent visit to Frank Pepe's in New Haven, we went off menu and ordered a baked clam bar pie. I must say this little pizza was jammed with clams and bread crumbs. Unlike Pepe's, Marinara uses cheese on their clam pie. Pepe's, take a note. Your pie is awesome, but too dry. Try it with the mozz, it made the pie nice and moist, but not overly so. One small point, I would have preferred whole clams on the pizza next time instead of chopped clams. Also, I would have liked just a bit more garlic. But both are matters of personal taste. Fortunately, the crew at Marinara is friendly and accommodating. I am sure if I ask next time I will receive whole clams and a bit more garlic. Needless to say, the pie we had, as is, was fan-freakin'-tactic. And now, last but not least, the main course. Drum roll please... RIGATONI CAMPANIA. I put that in caps because I am screaming the dish's name. This is the greatest, non-tomato based pasta dish I have ever had in my entire life. Can you say escarole, cannelini beans, roasted garlic, and crumbled sausage? I can't either, but who cares. This dish has them all, plus an amazing broth (very light), all served over perfectly cooked, tender rigatoni. The portion was enough for the three of us (and my boys can eat). Fantastic way to finish our meal. As an aside, Marinara is a sit down restaurant, however, it is a casual dining experience. There are no table cloths or dress codes. This is a solid, every day choice. Finally, but most importantly, Pino and Tommy, two of the restaurant's proprietors are great guys. Friendly and warm, Tommy always greets us with a smile and treats us in a way that makes us feel special. There are no words to describe Pino, but I will try. Humble, down to earth, warm, decent, kind, one of a kind person. He is charitable, having two or three times donated food to my synagogue for various events. I am still touched by what he did for my family when my mother passed away. He sent trays and trays of food each day we sat shiva. This man is a mensch, and I love him. Folks, I cannot make myself any more clear. Get yourselves over to Marinara stat, pronto, asap! You will be happy you did. read more

Never ever EVER go into this place expecting to be able to breathe or move around at all. The price a restaurant pays for having absolutely AMAZING food (and amazing is really an understatement here) is having its customers shoulder to shoulder waiting for tables at ALL times. The food here is great. I've been eating here for years and have had nearly everything on the menu, never once tasting a dish I didn't enjoy. However, I will NEVER go in for a sit down dinner. I've been here enough times to know Marinara's is a solid (though overrated) staple of Hewlett and one of the more popular attractions in the Hewlett shopping center for locals. By around dinnertime, this placed is packed with people and can even get to the point of being uncomfortable. Thankfully the inside is spacious enough that you have a decent chance of finding a seat. It's definitely a step up from an ambience standpoint from your run of the mill pizzeria. Food selection is what you'd expect for a pizza place; however the prices might make you believe that you're getting something better than what's in front of you. Similar to the nearby establishment, The Pizza Place, this is another Hewlett restaurant with prices that make me question whether or not it's worth my business. Issues aside, the pizza and the few other items I have sampled are definitely above average (Though it isn't worth writing home about as some of the reviewers here do. Have you ever eaten pizza outside of Nassau County)? They do make a solid regular and Sicilian slice though that isn't too salty thankfully and though I don't come here frequently, I tend to enjoy whatever I've ordered. If you want to take in the local atmosphere of Hewlett then definitely pay Marinara a stop and order a slice or two. Just don't be surprised when you're crammed next to another person, checking to see if all your money fell out of your wallet or if the prices are THAT expensive. read more

Pizza is such a basic food group I almost didn't think of reviewing my favorite place here until I came in with my two-and-a-half-year-old grandchildren and watched their enjoyment. Because of them, I have been to a lot of pizza joints lately. Marinara really makes pizza that's better then the norm. Great Neapolitan crust, very tasty sauce and toppings. The ambiance and service are likewise above the norm. . . . And I just discovered that they offer clam pizza! It's a particular favorite of mine and hard to find in these parts. I've been going to Marinara for years. Food: The food is excellent for the price. You can take out or sit down for the restaurant experience. The menu options beyond the pizza are delicious and I have only been served fresh ingredients. Given the amount of customers that enter the place forces them to always use fresh ingredients. I would rate their regular a 4/5 with 5 being perfect 1 being bad. Service: Never had problems with the waiters or those at the front. Some of the men at the front are of the rough Italian breed but doesn't bother me. They speak Italian and I've heard Spanish as well. Interior: Not a fancy 5 star restaurant interior but definitely clean and aesthetically pleasing. There is a lot of room at the place. Come for the carbs, stay because they know you like family. I have been coming here for years, and while I may only have sat and dined in 3 or 4 times, the takeout doesn't take anything away from the place. Whether it is dropping by for a quick cheese slice while standing at the counter (well...maybe I'll take a second one), or getting a large pie to go, the pizza here is extraordinary. Try the Grandma slice, the chicken & cheese "francese" slice, the penne slice, and the ricotta. Leave some room for great garlic knots. If any of this stuff will aggravate your stomach, suck it up and take a Nexium before you go (don't eat a Tums afterwards...you'll want to savor the meal for as long as you can). The regular food is okay here as well, but I'd go so far as to say that this is the best pizza east of Brooklyn. read more

Ahhh...New York pizza!!! Not nearly as easy to find these days with pizza chains popping up all over the place...serving "phony" mass produced "pizza". However, Marinara continues to bring us true New York style pizza, and much more. In a word, the pizza is excellent! The variety of choices seem virtually endless, including "Specialty Pies" that are imaginative and delicious! I highly recommend their "Grandma Pizza". It's the best on Long Island. Not in the mood for pizza? Want to have an Italian dinner instead? Marinara's dinner menu is extensive and the food is delicious...much better than one would expect in a "pizza joint". The prices are reasonable. The quality is excellent and the staff is good. After 25 years in south Nassau County..it remains my go-to pizza parlor. I can't believe this. Five years of coming her and the food has always been good, until today. I feel like I've just eaten the oldest piece of pizza on the planet. Dine or Ditch? Dine... on your Italian momma's lasagna. I've been going to Marinara for several years and I've tried a number of things, most of which I've been happy with. They always start you off with some warm garlic bread that I tend to enjoy. After that I tend to enjoy more carbs. I've had their pizza (I tend to enjoy a fresh bar pie), the chicken parm, meatball parm, sausage hero, and lasagna quite often. All of which I truly enjoy and highly recommend. The tomato sauce is a great flavor and it's used on almost everything I tend to get. My only issue is that from time to time I've gotten bad chicken (it breaks apart kind of like awkwardly as I bite into it) and that tends to be a turn off to me. It can happen anywhere, but it tends to stick in my mind and will keep me away from the chicken parm for a while. Overall, I would definitely stop in for some solid Italian food for a good price point. read more

Amazing pizza! When I'm in Valley Stream, this is definitely my go to spot for pizza! When j first had this pizza, I couldn't believe this place existed and I never knew about it! They have these personal pan pies made in a brick oven like the old days that are 12" and I devour the entire pie in one sitting like a newly freed inmate! My go to pie is the Margherita pie is a traditional Neopolitan pizza made with homemade mozzarella, fresh tomato basil sauce w/ imported virgin oil! It's beyond satiating and delicious -- hands down!
