We originally found her on Google, and she's only a mile or two from our house. Marina is elegant, warm, friendly, and very reasonably priced. Honestly, being on Melrose in West Hollywood, I expected the pricing to be much higher, but her work is not only beautiful, it's fair. Every time I'm there, the shop is busy, which says a lot. The best. I have come regularly over my 10 years in LA. Marina staff does wonderful work. She will talk with through your alteration needs and is very clear about she can and cannot do. There are two fitting rooms, come earlier in the day to avoid wait time. Marina has a lot of business, so expect a 3-6 week turnaround. DO NOT COME WITH AN ATTITUDE. Expect to spend an estimated 10 minutes per clothing item. Plenty of metered parking, do read parking signs carefully. Going to this place was a regret. I was feeling confident that they would do a good job based on the glowing reviews, but I was utterly disappointed with how the craftsmanship turned out, though Marina was friendly and seemed to be knowledgeable about alterations for sure. I had brought a maxi skirt with a side slit to be hemmed - a very simple job. When I went to pick it up, there were tons of small holes and stitch marks on the hemmed area. I would feel fine if the alteration fee was affordable, but this kind of shoddy work is unacceptable with the prices they charge. read more

I went here about 3 yrs ago. Marina was nice, but....I got a vintage dress shortened. There were quite of bit of fabric that got cut off, but they didn't keep it and just threw it away. Such a bummer. I didn't think to ask them to keep it for me since any where I've gotten something adjusted in the past, just gave back any extra fabric. Since it's vintage, it's particularly a bummer. Also, while I was there, she was telling a customer something couldn't be done. I don't even sew, but I made a suggestion as to where/how to adjust...then Marina says they can do that. Why wasn't that suggested by her (pro) and not somebody who doesn't even sew? They are expensive also. There are places that does significantly better job that's more complicated for less price. read more

As a stylist, I have brought several clients to her and they are loyal as well. She understands what I like and will usually guess what I need before can tell her what I want. Marina's Alterations is a great tailor shop. I have many clothes that are not sized correctly to fit my body. Marina understands what fits for my body type, the material, and the way clothing should be sewn. I've had my tank tops, bikini's, pants, tops and even a leather jacket tailored just right! I found Marina here on Yelp, and because she's soooo awesome, I have an opportunity to revamp lots of clothes. I brought in a few things, but I was primarily interested in seeing if she could "rework" a pair of jeans that were too snug from the lower thigh area, down. We talked about adding some fabric on the outside seam, to make the cut more of a "bell/bootcut" shape. She was honest with me, saying that it would be an experiment that COULD fail. It was up to me if I wanted to take a chance in throwing away $50 (mostly labor) if it didn't work out. Well, not only did it work out, but I was so impressed with the workmanship.
