This review is long overdue. I had my wedding nearly a year ago now but I don't want to remember how stressful it was to find the vendors that can offer services that are the right fit for us and our vision. Out of the many florists I found and spoke to, Susan stood out. She was busy working at a wedding the first time I called to inquire and not only did she take my call, she also didn't rush to tell me to give her a call back. Instead, she spoke with me and asked me about my wedding vision with regard to florals. We briefly discussed my ideas, which she intently listened to and from there, we scheduled a day to talk over the phone. During our phone appointment, Susan was very patient and listened to me ramble about my vision and she even offered recommendations. She asked important questions I would not have thought to ask and she was also willing to work within my budget. Shortly after, she emailed me a vision board which showed exactly what I had in mind. I've also met with her to deliver our vases and she was sooooo so nice! Susan isn't only super nice but very talented as well. As we were doing a small elopement ceremony, Susan helped me work within my budget and made seasonal flower + design choices that allowed us to make an impact! I worked with Susan on two separate occasions. One for my wedding when she was back in Silicon Valley and once for a private Floral arrangement workshop when she moved to Petaluma. Susan is a Magician, Botanist, Historian, Garden Enthusiast, Designer, Stylist, Teacher, and most importantly, a sweet sweet soul! Let me expand on just a few of the reasons why she is such a delight to work with. Magician: Susan was accommodating up through our big day. At the last minute we noticed there was going to be a giant big red ugly hydrant in the shot for our ceremony space and she quickly improvised and devised two floral structures to hide the big bright red eye sore. During our workshop with her, we also learned a few resourceful tricks from her on how to utilize and not waste flowers on hand. Sweet: Whether you're planning your big day or a surprise birthday workshop for your best friend, it's always the best experience when you work with someone who is kind and understanding. After all, you're going to spending a fair amount of time planning with your florist and you want that experience to be as pleasant as possible! With our wedding she was attentive all of our flower style preferences while keeping my budget in mind. For the workshop, she was generous with her tricks of the trade and I learned so much more than I could have ever imagined! Design Eye: She created a giant moss and floral hanging wall for our wedding. One that I'm still getting compliments to to this day, even 2 1/2 years after our wedding. She also has a beautiful moss chair that is very unique! She's knowledgeable about what is modern vs traditional flower design and is respectful to her client's needs. I preferred more modern wild flower designs with bold jewel tones paired with muted flora comprised of local seasonal blooms mixed in with highly coveted specialized fluffy flowers that had to be shipped in internationally. I've also seen her create more traditional structured and clean designs that some of her other brides have preferred. She is a women of many different talents! Botanist: She's also the wikipedia for flower varieties down to the type and color names and she was able to expertly perk up some flowers that were looking a bit tired/ help maintain flowers in their blooming peak. Anyone that would have the opportunity to work with Susan for a special event or visit her beautiful lush garden and learn from her in a workshop is in for a SERIOUS treat! I was so lucky to have found Susan here on Yelp. My (now) husband and I decided to plan a wedding in 3 months and since he is Indian there was a lot of pressure from family members to hire Indian vendors for everything. But I had other ideas in mind and when I found Three Sisters on Yelp I knew their style was what I wanted. I just had to make sure I could get jai malas (marigold garlands) for the Indian ceremony. I met with Susan and went over everything I wanted for the day and it turned out she knew a good deal about Indian weddings. She even had some beautiful bowls from India already purchased to use for the reception centerpieces. After our first meeting she sent me a contract with photos of all the flowers I wanted to use, describing exactly what would be done and where it would go. -This is very important- I've learned that when you are working with vendors for any event, it must be crystal clear what they are going to do, where things will go, exactly how much everything will cost, etc. Susan was completely on top of everything...she's also an event coordinator. Looking back I should have hired her as our wedding coordinator (we didn't have one and did everything ourselves). It would have been worth every penny. Seriously look into this as it will save you a great deal of stress/anxiety and time you don't have. I would never plan an important event by myself again...there are so many details you don't even realize need to be handled. Le sigh. Anyway, the flowers exceeded my expectations...the bridal bouquet was incredibly beautiful (I uploaded a few pictures here from our wedding), the centerpieces were better than I had imagined and the jai malas were perfect. I'd seen some before at other Indian weddings but ours blew those out of the water...so beautiful and detailed. In fact everything Susan made had all these lovely details that I wouldn't have even thought to ask for. My husband's family was very impressed. The guests all mentioned how lovely the flowers were. We loved everything. One bit of advice before you freak out over the cost of wedding flowers vs. getting a regular bouquet on a normal occasion...the time, effort and cost that goes into preparing your flowers to open at just the right time, making sure all the arrangements look exactly the same, ensuring the flowers are the perfect quality, etc. is not easy and is more work than most people realize. It's a very different task than walking into a local florist and getting an arrangement, so it will not be on the same price scale. Three Sisters quality of work is worth every penny and as others here have mentioned, working with Susan was so nice because she is really calm and knowledgable. Hopefully, some of the pictures we are enclosing with this review will do a much better job than we can with words, in terms of expressing the beauty and impact of Three Sisters' work on our wedding day. One of the only regrets my groom and I have from that day, is that we didn't also contract with Susan and her team to be our wedding planner. We loved her calm demeanor, and attention to detail. We worked with Susan for our recent wedding at the Los Altos History Museum and I can't say enough good things about the experience. She was so responsive and helpful from the get-go. My mom and I met with her at her home months before the wedding to talk about what we were looking for, and as soon as I met her I felt at ease. This is someone who has worked a million weddings and really knows what she is doing! She talked us through what would be in season at the time of our wedding and suggested which rentals would go nicely with our colors and event theme. Susan joined our other vendors for a walkthrough at the venue a couple of weeks before the wedding so we could work through any outstanding questions. The day of our wedding was pretty hot (95 degrees in Los Altos), but our flowers arrived looking fresh and bright. Susan's team got everything set up beautifully and on time. I couldn't have been more pleased with my bouquet or our centerpieces. She is very professional and at our consultation, she showed me around her studio so I could see examples of containers for centerpieces. TBH, flowers were not a big priority when I started planning my wedding, but I think talking to Susan made me really excited about how beautiful flower arrangements could really be. On the day of, she dropped off our beautiful bouquets to the hotel and then proceeded to set up the ceremony and reception flowers at the venue. When some of the flowers in my bouquet wilted during pre-ceremony photos because of the heat (~100oF!!), she saved the day by having another bouquet ready within minutes - just in time to have a fresh one to walk down the aisle with! We planned to re-purpose the arch flowers for the sweetheart table to minimize costs, and she was able to stay through the ceremony (~30 minutes) to help with the transfer. Wow, I don't know where to start. Susan was a joy to work with from start to finish. I had some general ideas about what I did and didn't want for my wedding flowers. As soon as I met with her and saw some of the wedding boards she had worked on I knew that she was far more than an average florist. Susan was working on becoming a wedding coordinator as well (I believe she's completed that goal) and I benefitted from her creativity and passion. I knew what I wanted in the bouquets and the colors overall but that was about it. Susan has so many creative ideas that once we chatted about the centerpieces a bit and I just knew that Susan had the vision I did - and I was right. I love the centerpieces she did. The bouquets were beautiful and I was excited to have her incorporate vintage jewelry into my bouquet. She went above and beyond incorporating a fabric that I had purchased and wanted to use at the reception, into her flower design. Susan wrapped the fabric around vases and votives and the whole reception looked magazine worthy! She really outdid herself. She also did a beautiful job placing the flowers on the cake...I didn't give much direction ahead of time and was so pleased. There were even single orchids on the head table place settings! The attention to detail was incredible and Susan was so pleasant to work with that I couldn't imagine working with anyone else. As another poster mentioned Susan had a replacement boutonniere waiting as the grooms grandfather accidentally flung the flowers off of the grooms bout. She even provided the square vases I wanted, which I know were difficult to find in the height we needed. Susan hadn't worked at the venues I booked and took the time to visit them ahead of time and introduce her to the coordinators there. I had the utmost confidence in her and she never let me down. Not only is she funny and extremely down to earth, but her flower arrangements are stunning and her coordination is flawless. Susan was able to step in during the rehearsal to run everything when our priest hadn't shown up. She perfectly balanced the size of bouquets with the size of me (the bride) and the bridesmaids. Our wedding date was 8/17/13 and we had our ceremony at the Sheraton in Sunnyvale, at the outdoor Gazebo site. Then we had our reception at the Sheraton in Palo Alto. Both places were absolutely stunning! We had the gazebo covered in a Sheer Fabric that looked so beautiful! The flowers on the gazebo were gorgeous... And then we arrive to our reception and even we were taken back by how amazing the room looked! Our centerpieces were incredible and everyone made comments of how great they were! We had tall branches with beautiful orchids and votive candles hanging throughout. They were absolutely amazing! My bouquet and my bridesmaid's bouquets were perfect! The flowers were, simply put, GORGEOUS! But, what I particularly appreciated about Susan was that she really listens to her clients. She initially encouraged me to pick a theme, which over time became that of an English garden. But the execution wasn't at all heavy-handed--this theme merely set the stage for the mood that she knew she would have to conjure for the evening. Our colors were taupe/gray and light rose, and she scoured the markets to find the perfect taupe rose for my bouquet, with just a touch of pink and not at all peachy. For the tables, she incorporated brighter pinks (roses and dahlias) and chocolate cosmos to bring some color to the dining room. The effect was muted tones and pure elegance. Finally, it was her idea to tie the whole thing together with a very creative welcome table "arrangement", which was two long window boxes blooming with all the flowers of an English garden. In these, she used both greenhouse roses, and flowers from her own garden (including grasses and mint) to create a completely natural look. In summary, I felt that Susan encouraged me to focus my ideas, and then listened! In the execution, she really shone. She brought my vision to life, but kept it simple, elegant, and sophisticated, which I feel really speaks to her artistry. My wife and I got married in September 2011, and we were smart enough to pick Three Sisters as our florist. Susan, the owner and as far as I could tell, sole proprietor despite the company name, was a real pleasure to work with. She's got a wonderfully creative mind, boundless patience, responsiveness of the highest order, and she really seems to enjoy her art...all things we tested thoroughly as we went back and forth through the design process. The end result was magnificent, delivered and set up almost as if by magic. My wife, the only thing on earth more beautiful than the flowers, was utterly thrilled. We have zero reservations in recommending Susan and Three Sisters. Not cheap but a real bargain! read more

My daughter's wedding was in April, 2012. I did not hire Susan to do the wedding flowers, so cannot speak to that. I hired her strictly as a wedding planner. We were fairly well into the process. All the vendors had been arranged: venue, wedding gown, menu, photographer, dj, flowers, invitations,colors, theme, etc. She was completely inflexible on her fee. For the amount she charged, I feel she did an adequate job - certainly not exceptional. When I asked her to add a couple of extra items (write the place cards) she was willing to do so - for an additional fee. her services the day of the wedding and rehearsal were fairly good. What I felt was most unprofessional is that after the wedding she never once contacted me to see if I was satisfied, if everything was done properly, or things could have been better. I certainly had feedback -( most of the guests missed the cake cutting and the garter toss - she never made any announcements, or rounded up the guests). I really thought I would receive a call or at least an email - but nothing. Fortunately, for my daughter and family, her service was the only disappointing part of her otherwise wonderful wedding. read more
