I mean, when they bill themselves as a "lunch counter soda fountain gift shop" you just have to go. Because that's exactly what they are. Soda fountain. Lunch counter. Gift shop. All of those things mixed together and twisted and pulled into a sweet singular strand of small town taffy. We bellied up to the bar later than we had hoped, in mid-afternoon. We met the current manager who explained the history of the spot, and while it's a little spotty, they've been around a long time in one form or another. She was related somehow to the original owner and it's passed through generations of families. There are strange gifts, new gifts, a lunch counter, booths, and a small menu board. We came in post-hike and got burgers because of course you get burgers. I can sum up the vibe of the food and the whole experience thusly: ME: "Wow, this tomato looks like it came from the garden." HER: "Ya, we get them from a guy who grows them for us. He's actually my old history teacher." Local, small, quirky, but very very delicious. Simple. Marion's Variety is a nostalgic place for me. I've always loved this place. The day we visited their fryer wasn't working so no French fries, potato chips instead. The burger was great and the waitress was so very attentive, friendly and fun to talk with. I wish they could up grade the merchandise, but I still love that it's still open after all these years. read more

Marion's Variety is just like it says, it's a variety store selling hats, clothes, old fashion candy and food. It really is a cute throwback to the 60s & 70s soda shop with swivel barstools. There are only 2 booths which seat only 2 people. Based off of Yelp reviews we both ordered the tuna sandwich which comes with chips which was fine, who doesn't love salty chips with tuna. We asked for our sandwiches to be toasted, the tuna itself was very tasty with large slices of pickle, the issue we had was the sandwich itself was very skimpy, meaning, a very, very small amount of tuna was between two slices of dry toast, we both felt like we just paid a large amount for 2 small crackers with a tiny portion of tuna. We both wanted milkshakes but the machine was broken. So we chose a much healthier option- WATER. Service was meh, not bad just awkward, our server was a young teen boy and when asked if they had French fries he stared at us and then said "I don't think so" he made us laugh and then said "oh we serve chips" If you work there you should know what you have and don't have. I've been coming to Roosevelt for over 50 years and this is the first time I've come in to Marions. Thought I had stepped back in time to an old drugstore/soda shop. The ambiance was authentic and charming. The servers were very helpful and right there at a moments notice. My 11 year old son was very impressed. Wants to go back there for breakfast tomorrow. Delicious diner style in an old drugstore now filled with interesting gifts and treats. You can eat at one of two booths or at the counter. I had a great tuna fish sandwich with pickle and iceberg lettuce on toasted bread and a moist strawberry cream cake. My husband had an open face burger patty covered with homemade chili and apple pie a la mode. He had to take half of his chili burger home. All of the food was very tasty and well made. You can find the most delicious ice cream in town in this small restaurant that looks like a colorful little convenient store. The old way to have ice in a root beer still my favorite. Oh sweet, sweet Marion's. This place was a true gem that we stopped at while we were passing through town. The inside is set up, old-school parlor type filled with knick-knacks to look through. Thank you so much. Cleanliness was great. I imagined we beat the lunch crowd as there were only a few patrons inside the place. The stools were all clean, the booths were tidy, and the overall store was kept. Atmosphere was so much fun. If you wanted to go back in time a little bit, this place will give you that feel. Aside from the old school accessories scattered throughout the store, the coloring, bar stool, and the overall theme was mid 50's. I loved it. The misses The food- I had a very hard time deliberating on giving the star or not. Although the value is there, I don't know if I would get the same BBQ burger. Wonderfully unique diner in a most unexpected place. The seating area was very small, 2 booths and a lot of bar seating nestled in small shop of random novelty items. But the service and food made up for it. The staff, particularly the owner were very chatty with my whole family - especially my kids! - without being intrusive. The food we got was mostly excellent. I got the " Marian burger", a BBQ burger and a chocolate shake and highly recommend both. Ditto for my wife's grilled ham and cheese. Great old time soda fountain feel to this place. Plenty of knock knacks to look at while you are waiting for your made to order food to arrive. As other reviewers have stated the dining area is small with two booths and a bar area with around a dozen stools. It was very clean and the staff was super friendly. Plenty of locals cane to pickup takeout orders while we were there. I ordered the Chili Burger it was served open face style with a generous amount of chili. The others in our group ordered the Cheeseburger and a Hot Dog with no bun (?!?) Both of those items came with potato chips. Food was delicious. We shared a piece of German Chocolate cake they had just sliced. It was right out of the cooler and the topping was even better because of the cold. We will return again. read more

First, the service was great and the atmosphere was fun. The place itself was very quiet, but it was full of people. The food was cheap. There were five in our party and it cost less than $28. We had burgers and shakes. The food was ready quickly. The biggest problem was that I thought the food was just so so. It wasn't terrible, but it was nothing to praise either. My BBQ burger was mild and soggy. The cheeseburgers looked good. I wish I had ordered that. The snakes were yummy (I shared a marshmallow shake), but it was also very thin. I did buy two cans of their strawberry/habanero and peach/habanero jelly. I'm looking forward to those. I wish I could give this place a better review. read more

This place is so unique, family owned spot that's been open since the 50's. When you walk in you always feel super welcomed by the super friendly staff and Chad, the owner. It's very small and packed full of home decor and fun gifts for sale too. Staff remembers your order without writing it down and all their food is amazing!! The cherry fresh lime is the absolute BEST that I've ever tasted and I order those wherever I go. BBQ burgers are my favorite here, their bbq sauce is so different then anywhere else, yet so amazing and the burgers are always dripping in it so make sure to grab lots of napkins. Also, do not skip dessert. Their ice cream, Malta, shakes and banana splits will leave feeling stuffed and satisfied. I've never had a poor experience here and I've been going here for 30 years. read more

They make the best limeade and chocolate cake! These are two of my favorite things. They have a lot of Knicks and knacks in the store and it's fun to wonder around and see what they have. A classic local diner with a twist! This place is hard to describe. Like an old-fashioned soda shop from decades ago mixed with a store full of interesting stuff. The two booths were taken so our family of six sat at the counter for a dinner of hot dogs, burgers and a BLT. The chili burger was yummy, though served in an untraditional way, on a plate full of chili, with the burger like an island floating in the middle. Pie and ice cream for dessert. The food was simple and good, with a great price: we fed all six of us for $45!! Bought the kids couple of foam light up toys for about $5 each, and almost got a few picture frames and a nostalgic wood sign for my sister (toddler meltdown so we had to leave fast). The servers and owner were as friendly to us out-of-towners as they were to the locals who were greeted by first name as they arrived. Got the feeling you could catch up on all the local gossip here! Marion's is the kind of small-town store you want to see last forever. It is a type of old-fashioned malt shop with knicknacks everywhere. This is not fine-dining and the menu is very, very basic. Soup here comes from a Campbell's can. Still, you know up front what kind of food you are getting and they make it taste great. I love to come here and get a burger, malt and grilled ham and cheese.
