I absolutely love this place! They have a gorgeous selection of fine jewelry designers, plus lots of more affordable pieces from their own brass and silver lines. Really cool mix of edgy, organic, and stunning quality across the board. My partner and I have gotten permanent jewelry from them three times. One year & two years later our bracelets have held up so well, no breaks. Sienna, who does their permanent jewelry, is lovely and super attentive to detail. When we went in for our newest bracelets, they kindly cleaned our other ones, as the stones had gotten a little grubby in the past year. They have a wide ranging selection of chain styles and tons of beautiful charms to add on. We were also able to request a particular stone/setting in advance. All of the sales staff are friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable! We have shopped at their original Oakland location during busy hours when they have gracefully been juggling multiple customers and still made the point to check in with us. Their Berkeley space is super open with lots of room for browsing. We tried on a number of rings and they were so helpful in explaining different settings, stone cuts, etc. I wilk be shopping here for years to come! read more

First time coming here with my best friend and I enjoyed our experience! This is the only location I could find in the bay area that does permanent jewelry! This means that you can get a bracelet or anklet that fits you perfectly without a clasp! Don't worry if needed, you can always cut it off. You do however, need to make an appointment to get permanent jewelry done in the back of the store. Appointments are usually only Saturday and Sunday and she will post on her Instagram when spots open up. One appointment spot is 30 minutes long and can accommodate both you and your friend. If you don't have an appointment you can still go into the shop and look at other pieces of nice jewelry. My friend and I got anklets. All chains are 14k yellow gold. Prices vary for each style and thickness of the chain and are priced per inch. Average anklets vary between 7 to 9 inches. You can also add charms to your anklet or bracelet too. What I thought was awesome was that Marisa herself is putting on they permanent jewelry! So cool to support a local small business! Wonderful permanent jewelry experience!!! Made an appointment for me and a friend once I saw that they opened up spots on Instragram. Spots fill out so fast so I suggest keeping updated on Instagram. There was deposit that goes into your permanent jewelry purchase. One appointment is good for 2 people! Came a bit earlier as suggested on the website if you wanted more time to choose your chain but there was a group in front of us so could've just arrived on time. The sore is quite small and sells all sorts of jewelry. The permanent jewelry area is in the back behind the register! Had to sign some papers beforehand about laser safety. The lady that helped us was nice and patient!! Spent some time in the beginning to pick out the chain style we wanted but there weren't that many options so that was pretty quick. Then she just measured out my wrist and tested it to make sure it was the right looseness that I wanted!! Super customizable. My friend took a while choosing how loose she wanted it and the lady was really understanding!! They tell you to not look directly at the laser because it could damage your eyes. But the welding process was so fast and absolutely painless. Didn't even hear zapping noises and I've definitely heard of horror stories of people getting hurt at other places. The only thing is it's not cheap (~200 for mine) but would definitely recommend for a simple investment piece. I've had mine for a little over a month now and holding up really well! I think if it somehow breaks off, you can bring it in for them to reattach too! read more

Whilst I was out tasting Temescal the other week with L and Buddy C. I stumbled upon Barbershop Alley. It seemed more a Diagon Alley, replete certainly with wand shops, charm stores, owl emporiums. By where I'd expect the apothecary to be is Marisa Haskell's cupboard of magic. A space no larger than 10 by 15 fits a workbench and Marisa and perhaps three customers. The rest of you please wait outside, I won't be long. All along the walls and other places where she can fit them are her skills on display. Mostly art to hang around a lady's neck keeps company with other treats for a wrist and a depleted box of snakebelts. Her work is beautiful in a graceful way. Nothing overdone, all clearly carefully crafted. Reasonable priced, wonderfully proffered. Everything in her shop is beautiful. Irrespective where you happen to live, a trip to Temescal is worth it even if you're only able to visit this one magic alley. Christmas is coming. Do something to make her happy. read more

Emailed Marisa Mason or whoever and they responded telling me that I ordered which it didn't say that on website. Yes, it stated at the very bottom in very tiny light gold print that supposed pieces come in pair or single. Whos gonna understand what single is as a charm. The "charm" single piece that I got is half the size of my pinky nail. Beautiful jewelry and - in my opinion - very reasonable prices. I spent some time searching Oakland for one of a kind cuffs that I could buy for myself and my new sister-in-law for her wedding. I wanted to shop local artists. I went to a lot of bay area stores but I kept finding two different extremes - super plain or super hippy. I needed my hippy style to meet her plain style somewhere in the middle (and be nice enough for a wedding gift!) I ended up finding my perfect solution here. The sterling silver was a bit out of my price range (and of course she only wears silver) but the brass was very much in my price range so it evened out if I bought one of each. Brass for me and sterling silver for her. Excited to wear my cuff all the time - I always cherish pieces that took a little more investment or come with a little more sentimentality. In talking to the engaging Marisa, it was fun to hear how she was raised here, spent early years traveling, and now lives in the foothills with her 2 daughters and her renowned wood-working husband. She's clearly influenced by the beauty of our natural world. When you walk into her store, you just want to stay awhile and look at everything. The beautiful display cases, full of remarkable treasures, are quite enticing. For instance, after many years of not wearing a wedding ring, my husband snuck in there and bought one for me. Of course, I had previously steered him in there with the promise of a margarita at Carlitos - next door.
