The owner of Marisa's is from Calabria and believes in good quality ingredients. People swarm the place but it has always been good. Just the cheese pizza alone is better than anywhere else. Love these guys! read more

Of the many New York City style pizza places in the Albany area, this place is, by far, the best.

2/7/19 I had a doctor's appointment near the area that Thursday night at 6:00 pm. I was hungry and thought it would be faster to get take out before I drove home another 20-30 minutes and then start to cook a meal. I had Chicken Parm in mind when I went into the shop. I could not handle a full meal (need to limit pasta for health reasons) and it was really overpriced for takeout $18 for pasta, chicken parm large portion and salad and bread. In other areas Schenectady there are Italian takeout places that offer special parm nights for less than $8.99 for a meal for takeout. The place appeared to be very busy with pizza orders and the pizza looked tempting, but I needed a high protein meal. I ordered a Chicken Parm sub, .,isted on the menu for $8.00. Since I am a diabetic, I have to limit the carbohydrates I eat at each meal and average over a week. Too much bread can spike blood sugar levels. So, I asked for the meat and sauce portion and roll to be separate. a young lady asked about the portion size I wanted and I told her the Sub portion with the roll separate. I asked in advance if it would be still be the same-$8. I did not get a definitive answer, but I thought it was clear that is what I expected. The man at the register heard the order and never said anything further to me. They said it would take 15 minutes. So, I waited in the bar. It was about 35 minutes later that my order was ready. The man then ran up my order to the tune of $9.72. I said I thought it would be $8.64 with tax. He said he charged an extra $1 for the container. I did not say anything at that time, but I knew that cost of the container should only have been less than 25 cents. It is not that I cannot afford the extra $, but I always consider the cost of things BEFORE I order. I would have liked the chance to decide in advance whether I thought it was worth it or not. I have ordered chicken parm subs this way in many places and have never run into this before. I didn't find it necessary to give them my personal health information, but there was a valid reason why I wanted it this way. If I had ordered it the regular way, I would not have been able to portion the bred out for t he week. I planned on taking half of the meat to work the next day for lunch and slice the bread accordingly. It was like a small loaf of bread. I could not have eaten that in one sitting or my blood sugar would sky rocket. the meat portion and sauce tasted good enough, except the sauce was just plain, very "tomatoy" tasting, no other flavors infused. I will not order this from them again. I may try their pizza slice if I am in the area again sometime, but I wont go out of my way to go there. Customer service is key for me. Next time, I will backtrack to Milano's Pizza back towards Albany. They are very friendly and would probably give me what I ordered. I like to frequent independently owned establishments, but not if they are not open and honest about your orders. read more

I had lived near this place for 2 years and finally tried it. It has become my go to pizza place. I got the Cheese pizza and it was probably the best pizza I had ever had. It just made you want to have more and more. I also had the Garlic Parm wings and it was cooked to perfection in the sauce. Top 5 Garlic Parm wings in my book. I was a little hesitant when this place came, but it hits all the marks to perfection. First off, the team is amazing. Kind, friendly, all the good stuff. The food is over the top good. I'm a New Yorker born and raised, and like many born and raised New Yorkers, I'm a pizza snob. And this is the place for the pizza snob. The cheese pizza we get from them is amazing. The crust had a crispiness to it that was amazing, there was the appropriate amount of grease that a New York pizza should have, and I could taste every aspect of the pie from the crust to the sauce to the cheese and I loved it all. The antipasto salad? Absolutely delicious. Once again, distinct flavors that worked well. And it was the perfect balance to the pizza. The thick, cheesy, spicy, saucy, greasy pizza was cut by the light, fresh, herbal salad. The dressing was pretty great, too Chicken tenders are off the chain as well. Absolutely anything but run of the mill. Definitely better than typical. Typically, you get greasy, salty probably frozen chicken tenders. This is not that. They had a great breading, and they were not greasy whatsoever. They weren't salted to death, either. Nice crisp to them, too. The honey mustard sauce we got was perfect, too. These fast food places and prebottled grocery store honey mustard sauces are sweet messes that do not taste like honey and mustard put together. Marisa's has the perfect honey mustard where I can actually taste the bite of the mustard which is tamed by the honey's sweetness, not hidden. The chicken wings are fantastic, too. Simple. Good sauce, great crunch, great serving sizes... doesn't get more simple and good than that. Marisa's is crazy good. The competitors around are tough to beat, and I was reluctant to try a new place. We never wanted to share a negative review, we were just really disappointed that our favorite pizza had changed with out notice. This is the ONLY pizza our family eats. I finally called and asked Tony the owner about it and he was very understanding and let me know why the changes happened. He apologized and offered a solution. We have always loved this place so it is with great relief we can continue eating here. Thank you Tony!!! read more

I've been eating at Marisa's Place for 5+ years now, when I'm in the Albany/Guilderland area -- I live in Loudonville and sometimes make a special run to Marisa's! It's the BEST pizza in the Capital District since I moved up here from Brooklyn 33 years ago! Everything Connor L. says is echoed by me (I don't know who he is, but he's right on the mark!). Three year regular at Marisa's and never disappointed with their pizza. They will have it ready in 20-25 minutes from your order as promised. The quality is great and most of all consistent. I have never been thrilled that I have to pay more for it but always come back for the quality. There is no comparison to Pizza Hut or Domino's. Paean's delivers but takes 45 - 50 minutes, bad customer service to order and not as consistent. read more

One of the best places you can get a slice in the Albany area! We've been going here a few times a month since we moved up to the Capital Region from NYC two years ago. You're getting NYC style pizza here. Their pizza is always delicious, the crust is crispy on the outside, soft inside, not too thick, but not paper thin, sauce is delicious, and just the right amount of cheese. I've ordered salads here and they are always generously sized with good ingredients. Garlic knots are delicious. I've had one of the specialty pies, but I forgot which one I got. The cook actually made the wrong pie for us, and gave it to us on the house (we ended up using the cash we would spend on the meal as a tip to the staff)---whatever they made was excellent. The staff there is always pleasant and attentive, and they are always kind to us when we visit. They recently renovated so they look more like a "restaurant" as opposed to a pizza shop, but the quality of the food did not change at all. This restaurant is fabulous. read more

Tried this place the other night after reading some reviews...This is my new favorite place. I don't care about whether it's real brooklyn style or whatever (being from upstate my whole life I wouldn't know) but this pizza is soooo good. We got the Marisa pizza - mozzarella, thin sliced tomatoes, basil, thin crust....It was so good I was bargaining with my toddler over the last slice! And personally I love the fact that the cheese isn't glopped all over the pizza, there is just enough for taste to make it wonderful. Great job. read more
